Not the Results I Was Hoping for

Left with Bad Scar!!

I’m now 9 months post op from a lip lift with Dr Mascaro. I did heavy vetting online before choosing him to perform my lip lift. He seemed like a nice, talented doctor and his pricing was moderate compared to some other top doctors I was considering seeing. However I have been left with a pretty nasty scar under my nose. I’m too self conscious to go around without makeup on as it’s extremely visible and I feel people staring it when they talk to me or they’ll ask what happened… even when I do wear makeup it’s still very visible in photos and people notice it often. It’s very disappointing as I thought I was in good hands when I chose Dr Mascaro. I reached out to him and his team a few months after to let them know I wasn’t happy with the distance he removed as I wanted a much more dramatic result and also the scarring is bad. They informed me I could pay another $2,000 to have a revision with him in 6 months. However after this first bad experience I declined the offer for revision.
I’m now going to have to invest a lot of money into treatments to try and get rid of this embarrassing scar. I would do your research far and wide before choosing a doctor! I’m also considering going to see Dr Talei for advice on getting rid of this scar and possibly for a revision surgery which will cost another $8,000+…. Make your decisions wisely because sometimes it costs more to fix that the procedure costs in the first place.

I am so sorry :( Did you develop a keloid? Maybe kenelog would help. He should offer to fix it for free.
I agree about free of charge. I had a revision of upper blephroplasty b/c the surgeon left too much skin on one eye. The revision was "free" but I had to pay a facility fee of $1K
Hey, I’m so sorry for what you went through. Yeah dr M isn’t as great as he makes himself out to be, his angles are very calculated and pic or scar taken when it’s moistened so it doesn’t really show. look up Dr James Pearson or Dr Farhad Rafizadeh
I agree. Mascaro — wanted to charge triple what my revision surgeon charged just for a scar revision (and my surgeon is a rhinoplasty revision specialist who is world-renowned…and for good reason—his stitching is even better than Mascaro’s. I’ve noticed some of Mascaro’s patients have the middle part of the philitrum kind of ‘stuck back on’ without the area being stitched intricately and meticulously for a smooth look directly under the nose?…Maybe, it’s the close-up but I’m not impressed with all his results…and, I question any doctor who is marketed a lot on here…
Hey can you share who your surgeon was..?
His results are definitely not consistently good. I think he typically charges a higher fee for a redo when he feels you should be happy with the results you got. There was another women a few years ago who didn't get an appreciable lift. He didn't agree with her and would only do it for another 2k. She also didn't trust him and declined. Personally, I lost the tiny bit of lift I got from him in less than a year, and the scar is bumpy on 1 side. I would not feel comfortable doing a 2nd lip lift with him, as I don't feel he was forthcoming in the consult as to a realistic expectation.
Another way to look at it is that he’d definitely want to redeem himself and want this review gone ? I think he’ll be more careful if he were to do it again as he should be. It’s still ridiculous that he’s asking for 2k when he should do it free or cost. But if you still choose to decline him then still don’t go to Talei, his technique makes you heal super slow and you d already lost previous time thanks to M. Also Talei is SO expensive. Another good one is Dr Linkov maybe try him
Gentle, agree Dr Linkov looks to be a talented and thoughtful surgeon. Don't know about having Dr M's review gone. Ive been following him since before I had my LL 3 years ago, and most of the negative reviews have just "disappeared." Did he make good on any them? Can't say for sure, but I tend to doubt it.
I agree with you…Mascaro wanted to charge triple for what my revision surgeon charged…and he put me under anesthesia because my case was complicated. My surgeon could charge more because he is world rekniwn The surgeon I ended up doing my revisions with did an EXCELLENT job…like, his stitching is the best I’ve ever seen.
I meant, because the surgeon I went to for my revisions is world renowned* as a facial only (mainly noses/ rhinoplasty surgeon) he ‘could’ have charged as much as Mascaro does for revisions (and more), but have noticed my surgeon doesn’t over charge when the procedure is from a bitch job like a scar—he is fair…now, if you do a facelift with him, then it’s a different story, but his scar revisions are beautiful. He does corner lip lifts and regular lip lifts, so he is very talented in the nose/ under the nose anatomy.

I think, Mascaro’s results are decent but not the greatest I’ve seen…and he is overcharging with his lip lifts now, and changes even more for revisions…
Really good surgeons don’t need to rely on real self to get patients…they are so good that word of mouth is enough…

$2k to revise his own work is not fair to the patient, considering more talented surgeons who are meticulous and better stitchers than Mascaro charge less for a 1st revision surgery…

I’ve heard bad things about Talei as well…he grossly overcharges for his work and isn’t that great of surgeon…:-(
DO NOT get a lip lift from Talei; he is a horrible surgeon. He is all hype
Why do you say this??? Considering seeing him, would love to know.
I had corner lip lift and modified lip lift in May from Dr. Talei. He just did a corner lift revision on me two days ago… It still doesn’t have the results I requested. I’m disappointed.
Hi, hope the revision results improved since your comment and it didn't involve any further costs. In the context of this conversation it would be helpful to know the revision fees of the different Drs.
I agree Talei is terrible
He should have taken off more.. It's outrageous that he'd make you pay for a revision. Also ... Does the incision go around the nostrils?

Not the Results I Was Hoping for

I had a lip lift with Dr Mascaro this past December 2020. I was super excited as all I’ve seen are super positive results and great before and after photos.
Unfortunately what I wanted (and showed him pictures of) and what he did were two different things. I wanted a dramatic lift having little space between my upper lip and nose. Instead there’s hardly a change in the proximity at all... if anything it’s only 2.5mm of a change. After healing I went in public and none of my friends or family even noticed a difference. Now some people may think this is a good thing but I didn’t pay all this money and endure the recovery to come out looking the same as I did before... overall dr Mascaro is very nice but I unfortunately didn’t get the results I thought I clearly communicated that I wanted. I am now planning to schedule a revision with Dr Talei in Los Angeles, which in hindsight I might should have chosen him from the beginning but Dr Mascaros pricing was so much better! Dr Talei gives a more dramatic before and after while Dr Mascaro keeps it very modest. It all depends what you want, but for me I need more! I’m also left with a pretty noticeable scar that hasn’t made much healing progress.. I may look into laser treatments to help it go away soon.

A lot of surgeons tend to take off a small amount depending on the length of your philtrum, you probably would have been more upset if he ended up taking off too much length and causing permanent damage. It is always best to take off less and wait a year later to decide if you want to take off more in a 2nd procedure. It is also hard to understand one side of this story when you are only sharing one post photo and nothing to compare.
mxracer84 whilst I can see the logic in taking a small amount off and having more taken off at a later stage it must also be considered that one would have to go through the traumatic healing process a second time. I would never want to go through it again and people should be aware that it isn't something you should take lightly. Although some say the healing was a breeze, others like myself have had a very difficult time. Im still waiting for the day my sensation returns to normal and I'm 1 year, 7 months post lip lift. I'm grateful I had more taken off so at least my lip is sitting where I want it to.
Very true
Totally agree!
Your lips look beautiful to me but I don't have anything else to see what you had before. The scar would trouble me more though because I have only seen amazing scars with him. But make sure if you have another surgery with Talei that you understand that he does a different procedure. He lifts the muscle and the recovery is a long long time. But he may be able to help with the scar. It's just at least a 4 month recovery
Leave it alone!! You look amazing. Don’t end up looking like a bunny rabbit.
I agree. If too much is taken off, it will look fake and strange. I would suggest getting filler to see if that is really what she wants.
I agree with you. A bunny rabbit look is just not right!! She looks beautiful now.
Did you have a lot of tooth show before your surgery? A long maxilla can be a reason to remove only a few millimeters. Just wondering what your before pics looked like. From what I’ve seen of his other lip lifts, Dr. Mascaro isn’t the kind of surgeon to ignore his patients’ wants. Just trying to understand how you looked pre surgery! Also, is this your scar now, 4 months post?
I agree with the others. In case to really get some beneficial input for your case, you need to show us more pics. (Before pic, tooth show, development...)
