Lip Lift Experience Day 1-5

I have wanted lips since I can remember!! I was okay with my small lips until social media happened and selfies happened. I really hated my lips and even with fillers they didn't ever take a lip shape that was pretty because the filler would move above them within months because there wasn't really anywhere for the filler to go in actual lips. So, I ended up with weird looking lips every time I got filler and you could see the filler above and around my lips, but yet I still disliked my lips. I figured I would have to give up and move on. Then...I found out about Dr. Talei and his lip lifts. I watched all of his YouTube videos and analyzed his before and afters. I still wasn't sure this was right because I was 1.terrified of the scar and 2.everyone who got the lip lift done seemed to have nice lips before (which I couldn't relate to). I finally found a couple patients, as time went on, that also had small, thin lips who got this done. I was amazed at the difference in shape and almost Bardot like shape that their thin lips could achieve with this lift. I knew I would never get this look with filler (unless I went Kylie Jenner on it, but my job will not allow me to have duck lips and my family would absolutely bother me about it!) I finally decided to book my surgery after seeing the new patients he posted about on his YouTube that had lips like mine. Because I think it is very important to look at reviews of people who have features like you. One surgery on someone might look bad on someone else if their face features are completely different. This is very important in cosmetic surgery. SO...day before surgery- Dr, Ben Talei was busy in surgery and I decided to wait til the morning of surgery to talk to him. Usually this would have freaked me out, but I had been stalking this doctor for a year before deciding to do this surgery, so I didn't mind waiting until day of to meet him. Prior to this, we had only a face time call. I would not suggest doing this going into any surgery, but since I knew his reputation and people who got this done, I was fine not seeing him until right before surgery. Please do not ever do this with any surgery. This a rare case, as Dr. T does lip lifts all year long and has been for years and years. He is an expert. He met with me 30 minutes before my surgery, measured out my lips, numbed the hell out of my face, and then we were ready to go. As for the surgery part- didn't feel a thing! I did feel the numbing shots going into my face and I hated that. My face immediately swelled up from the shots, but the shots are absolutely necessary for the surgery so you don't feel a thing. Funny how the numbing process was worse than the actual surgery for me. The surgery took 20 minutes. I was out of there with my boyfriend and in bed within 30 minutes icing and resting. As for pain during day 1-5, there wasn't a lot of it. I took one pain pill on the night of Day 1 to help me sleep. Day 2 & I took Tylenol extra strength 2 times a day. By day 4 I didn't need any. In comparison to my nose job, this was like going to the dentist. Nose job recovery was the hardest thing i've ever done and the pain was 10 out of 10. I still have nightmares about that recovery process and I had a hard time sleeping with nose packing. As for this, I slept like a baby. I will keep y'all updated as time goes on, but for now I am really early in the healing process. I get my stitches out tomorrow and will update with pictures.

Hi thanks for sharing your LL experience! I'm going to see the same doc soon. It's looking good! May I ask how many mms were taken off? How are you caring for the incision site to minimize scarring? What have you been eating since the surgery? I'm scared of losing too much weight lol

I will upload a picture of how many MM's were taken off. It was only 4 mm and Dr. T. knows exactly how much will be appropriate for your face. It really depends on your teeth. Funny that teeth have everything to do with it, but they do! I have big teeth and if my lip was taken up too much, I would look like a bugs bunny, which is not cute. However, it is shocking how much of a difference 4 mm will make. I look like a completely new person (in a good way). Dr. T has really perfected this surgery. Honestly....there is no scarring !!! It is freaky. I will upload a photo of the scar. I already had a work zoom call with 7 days post op, a face time with my family, and 1 best friend came over to see me because she wants this done and was shocked that she couldn't find the incision. I am only putting on AQUAPHOR after the stitches come out. They provided me with AURASILK (which is made by Dr T.) to put on the incision, but it has a bunch of ingredients like essential oils that my skin has never agreed with, so I am sticking with aquaphor since there is no scar forming so far. For food, I made delicious smoothies for the first 5 days every morning (pea protein powder, dates, blueberries, walnuts, almond butter, avocado, banana.) That would fill me up until lunch then I would have soft white rice and for dinner I had almond milk yogurt and mashed potatoes. I really didn't want to mess with the sutures so I ate soft food until they came out on day 5. Then I started eating salmon and pasta after the sutures came out (but very slowly). You won't lose too much weight if you have your fridge stocked with calorie dense stuff that you could throw into a blender! Your blender is your best friend during day 1-5.

This recovery is NOTHING like nose a surgery or a facial surgery where they put you under and open you up and move things around. After my nose job I lost like 10 pounds because I was miserable and in pain and couldn't eat for weeks. You won't be miserable after this surgery by day 3 I was working on my laptop.

You look beautiful and so soon. Congrats to you!
I am curious about your nose job, as you mentioned it was extremely painful. Mine was a pretty complicated case and I never had an ounce of pain. I had a severely deviated septum and went to the wonderful and incomparable Dr. Talei myself. Based on my pain free experience, I have to assume he did not perform yours. Dr. Talei fixed my septum and performed a challenging rhynoplasty (one side of my nose was crushed from a car accident long ago). Being able to breathe was my goal. I thought my days of having a cute nose were well in my pre-accident past. He not only repaired the septum (and I can breathe!), but what do you know - I seriously have the cutest nose now. My nose had shifted to the left side of my face. He had to correct that, fix the septum and construct something from nothing on the right side of my face. Here I am four months later and you would never guess I had surgery. And zero pain.
I don’t know how he does what he does but I’ll tell you right now...his talent knows no bounds. After reading your lip lift review and others’ comments about his pricing, I thought it was important to describe my experience. You may pay a higher price than other doctors charge, but you will be more than satisfied with your results. He delivers. More accurately, he knocks it out of the park.
Like you, I chose Dr. Talei because of his before and after photos. His work is stellar. My face is something I didn’t want to gamble on. Kudos to you for making the same decision.
I am really happy for you and grateful for your review. Your lips look wonderful and truly showcase his talent. And now you have me thinking I need jump on that too. I wanted the lip lift but worried so much about the scar. Your results are inspirational. Thank you for posting. Wishing you well in your continued recovery.

You have great results, I called this doctor and the price was exhorbinant. $8,900.! Dr. Mascaro is in Florida and does equal or better work and he's $2,800.00 . I got it done here in Newport Beach for $3500 with amazing results. I guess it bothers me that there is such a discrepancy in pricing. :(

You are absolutely right. Dr T. charges so much!!! I used CARE CREDIT so I am paying it off in 6 months which is more doable . But still, 8.9k is insanely expensive and he knows it....but I will say that with Dr. Talei can make a nonexistent lip like I had into a Brigette Bardot lip, which is incredible. Other lip lifts look great and work wonderfully if the person already has a nice top lip and they just want to shorten their philtrum (area between nose and lip). I had a NON-EXISTENT top lip that curled under so I knew I couldn't get just any lip lift. I solely wanted a top lip that I could easily add lipstick to and pout my lips and have that Bardot style where it curls up towards her nose. I looked at other Doctors, but a lot of them do SKIN only lip lifts, and Dr T. uses a SMAS facelift technique where he removes the skin and then sutures your skin down to the SMAS layer of skin (which is used in facelift procedures) and then you have that lip that goes upward and more red of the lip is showing. He also offers help with aftercare and I am closer to Los Angeles so I was worried about getting a surgery across the country and having an issue and not being near my doctor, as Dr. Mascaro is in Florida. It is a nightmare to have something go wrong after surgery and be a 5 hour plane ride from the doctor. I can get to Los Angeles in a a 5 hour car drive at least so that was an added benefit.

SMAS? I'm not sure what that is. I have heard there is a lip lift with just skin lift or Muscle lift. Is that what you mean? And since both of mine were virtually painless and no swelling I am guessing that mine was a skin only. My first one was 16 years ago and it was very conservative. This time I went more aggressive and I am thrilled.

Did you go back to him to remove your sutures ? Or did you have someone in your town do it ? I have mine in and am a day out and am wondering if I should go back or not ? Thanks

I will have conso with dr. Mascaro in Florida. His price is much reasonable and he is fantastic doctor. I already Had a conso with Dr. Talei and unbelievably his price is $8500. Very expensive but he is good! Please keep us posted your progress. Your lips looks pretty already !!!

Dr. Mascaro does an excellent LIP LIFT! He is very talented! I know someone who went to him and she is so happy. And Dr. Talei and him are friends. Dr. T told me he taught Dr. Mascaro his technique, but that Dr. Mascaro's lifts cannot achieve the same UPTURN as Dr. Talei. If you have a top lip, then Dr. Mascaro is a great lip lift surgeon. For my lip shape however, I knew Dr. T was the only one that could give me the shape I wanted. It is always important to look at people in the before and afters who have the same shape of your lip or nose or whatever else you want to change. I didnt see anyone who had my lip shape for Dr. Mascaro and I did find 4 girls who had my thin top lip from Dr. Talei's before and afters and was very impressed. You really cannot go wrong with either of these doctors.

Your lips before your surgery were natural and very pretty. Hard to tell what your surgery results are right now because of the swelling. Maybe future photos would be helpful. Good luck!

Aw thank you! But I had been getting fillers since I was 22 in my lips and now I am 28, and if I do the math, that adds up to $5k or more. YIKES! And even after the fillers I wasn't happy with my lips. I also had a bad reaction to Restalyn in my lips and had to get it dissolved. I feel like filler migrates too and it never stayed in my lip area. I felt like if I did this surgery one time I wouldn't continue getting lip filler. I also hate the scar tissue that lip filler leaves behind because every time I stuck a needle into my lips I would end up with weird bumps and scar tissue.

Lip Lift Day 6-9
lagirlrhinoMay 31, 2020
After the sutures came out and day 5, I have been healing pretty fast. The blue bruises that went to yellow are now almost completely gone. My cheeks are still puffy, which I expected as I had the same thing after my nose surgery. Dr. T put what felt like gallons of numbing liquid into my face before the surgery, so expect your cheeks to be looking like a chipmunk for the first 2 weeks. My face swells up easily, so maybe the numbing shots won't have that same affect on you because I've seen some girls who look completely normal within 1 week of this. I don't have any pain or any irritation on the incision lines. I cannot smile, but I can talk 90% normally. I had a work call that went fine on day 7 and a facetime with my family and no one even noticed. I expected this recovery to be AWFUL. Knowing how bad I felt after my nose surgery, I expected to be miserable for a month. If anything the worst part is the medications you have to take for a week, as my body never likes medications (you take steroids, antibiotics, anti viral meds after this surgery FYI). So I am so happy to be done with week 1 which is also when the medications stopped.I haven't felt any pain except on day 1 so I didn't need the pain medicine, which if you can NOT take pain meds, then don't. They are so bad for our precious systems. As for work, I am working normal hours and even did yoga yesterday and today (although he says 3 weeks for working out, but I really feel good so I figured some light stretching wouldn't hurt.). I am only applying aquaphor to the incisions twice a day and wiping it down at night with a wet gauze pad before re-applying. You want to keep the incision area moist with ointment at all times. Overall, I am really surprised by this surgery and how well it went. I am also so happy about the look of my lip and shocked at the fact that I have a top lip. I love the upturned shape and I even experimented with lipsticks yesterday and got so excited to have something to put my lip stick on. If you have any questions comment below and I will try to answer all of them!

I will! DR T is really good!! I really worry that other doctors try and claim that they can do this type of surgery..but it really is much more about technique than anything. I have seen some crazy scars on here, which initially kept me from getting this surgery for a year, but there is literally no scar from how he does it!

Wow there's literally no scar! Really suits you

one year update!! I finally have the Brigitte Bardot lips that I always dreamed of!
lagirlrhinoJuly 12, 2021
I cannot believe I have lips that people actually want. My whole life, I was insecure about my small lips. Im in shock how much lips really do change the face, and I could never have gotten this look with just filler. I had a straight line lip. Now I have a pout. I do not look like my family which is kind of awkward because I look like a different person completely. But it was 10/10 worth it. It helped with my confidence and most people assume I got filler.

You look absolutely gorgeous! Dr. T did such a wonderful job- it looks like you were born with those Bridget Bardot lips!

Thank you for this great description of your experience so far! Looking forward to your next update :)
