PLEASE READ: This is going to be a long one. If you are a black patient or have darker skin tone or skin that scars easily, please read or skip to the portion that’s relevant to you. I’m going to try to be as brief and as detailed as possible because there weren't many reviews from people of color or darker skin tones who did the upper lip lift surgery when I was doing my research so hopeful this is helps someone who has a darker skin tone and is on the fence about getting the upper lip lift surgery. I will also try to include lots of before and after pictures.

Surgery Date: JULY 6, 2021
POST-OP: currently 2 ½ post-surgery
Skin only removed: 5mm (starting length: 18)
WHY DID I GET SURGERY: I already have full/big lips so I didn't want my lips bigger. I wanted to shorten my philtrum to give my face a more balanced, youthful, feminine look. HOWEVER, there is absolutely no way to do the surgery without the upper lip getting slightly bigger(Dr Linkov made this explicitly clear during my consultation and on the day of surgery). That was a risk I personally was willing to take. I would rather have a slightly bigger upper lip with shorter philtrum with more youthful feminine appearance than have the same size lips with longer philtrum with manly/unbalanced appearance.
Would I recommend this surgery to darker skin tone? 10/10 recommend ( do your research and pick the right fit surgeon
CONSULTATION:
I had a consultation with Dr Ben Talie and Dr Linkov only. I have been researching the procedure for over a year and followed both doctors IG, read their research publication on the lip lift and basically stalked them online both for a year lol. This is my very first surgery EVER and I was super scared and wanted to make sure I chose the right surgeon. I paid $500 for consultation with Dr Ben Talie and it wasn’t the best. I literally cried because I was so disappointed. He’s an amazing surgeon and I knew I would probably get amazing results, but he was wayyyyyyyy too pompous and unpersonable during my consultation. It was very rushed and I didn’t feel comfortable going forward with him because he was so stand-off ish with me. Felt like I was just another patient, and he didn’t really care about me. (If yall want more of my opinion on my consult with Dr Talie feel free to ask but I wasn’t a fan of his demeanor).
My consultation with Dr Linkov cost $200. Long story short, I would have paid $1000 for my virtual consolation with him if I had to. The man is a class act! He’s not only a great surgeon but he’s also a great down to earth person. He made me feel like I was his family member, and he was brutally honest with me, and I appreciated him for that. The man is incredible inside and out. I was pretty much sold after my consult with Dr Linkov. FYI… I did not care how much money I have to pay; this is my face lol and I was willing to pay for the very BEST. I DID NOT choose Dr Linkov because he was cheaper. I chose him because he was the best fit surgeon for me. 12/10 RECOMMEND DR LINKOV to patients of color!!
Surgery Day: What to expect:
Only pain you will feel is when numbing after that you feel nothing… I almost fell asleep during the surgery. I was so scared, but Dr Linkov and nurse Ashley made me feel so comfortable and talked to me during the surgery (lol yes, my lower lip could still move so speaking wasn’t an issue). I was the only patient there when I arrived (GOOD SIGN) ….. Everything and office were clean and sterile. YOU DO NOT FEEL ANYTHING DURING THE SURGERY. I did feel pain after about 2 hours after the surgery was over. It felt extremely uncomfortable but after taking the pain medicine he prescribes for 1 day I didn’t need any pain meds after a day. I was extremely swollen for about 3-4 days and day 7 my lips went down significantly.
FYI: Dr linkov also accounted for the asymmetry in my lip and removed enough skin to correct the asymmetry. As soon as I was done with surgery. I WAS IN LOVE with the results. It was exactly what I WAS HOPING FOR.
Sutures got removed 7 days after surgery.
About day 8 I started to get movement back in my upper lip area, but I didn’t force it. I moved my lips as much as it would allow. I am 2 1/2 weeks post op and I have lots of movement now. I can smile. Only where there incision is made is still stiff and tight but that will improve over the next few weeks-months.
I HAVE NO REGRETS.
Yes, there is a scar but it was well worth it for me compared to how I LOOK before the upper lip lift surgery. I don’t have to hide my lower face anymore or be super self-conscious about it.
No one knows I had surgery done. But people will notice something is different. My family doesn’t even know. I told them I FELL down some stairs and busted my lip and had to get stiches. Lol everyone believed me for the most part but my mom and older sister I had to really convince but eventually sold them on the story. I’m just not comfortable sharing that I had plastic surgery yet so that story seemed to work for practically anyone who noticed there was something going on around my mouth area and why I was talking weird for a few days.
I’m sure I left stuff out. I’m happy to answer any questions! Hopefully this helps. 10/10 recommend Dr Linkov!

Yes, there is a scar but it was well worth it for me compared to how I LOOK before the upper lip lift surgery. I don’t have to hide my lower face anymore or be super self-conscious about it. Surgery doesn't solve all your problems but it has definitely given me the freedom to look more youthful and more balanced.

Thanks for sharing the pics! Looks gorgeous! So jealous that women who already have nice lips get even more lips! Those of us who have little lips will never get there, but at least a lip lift helps us too! Congrats!!

Congratulations on your surgery! I have been wanting this surgery for a long time but I have health issues that make me hesitant. I am sure I would benefit greatly. Thank for sharing. I look forward to updates as you heal. BLESDINGS

Yay, finally a lip lift review from a dark skin person!! I just don't know if I could live with a scar personally. Do you notice it each time you look n the mirror? Also do other people notice it (when you're not wearing makeup)?

its so hidden under my nose barely noticeable but there is a scar if looking up close in my face. luckily theres no need fr anyone to be that close to my face except me when looking in the mirror. No one not even family members have brought the scar to my attention. Keep in mind Im not even three months yet so yes scar is there and slightly visible without makeup but more-so to me. Ive yet to have anyone ask me about it. It was worth it for me because of how well balanced my face is now so I don't mind it
