47 - Upper Lip Lift
I have always thought my face was out of balance because of the distance between my nose and top lip. I felt like it divided my face into two separate parts and that I looked grim and masculine. My teeth were only visible when I smiled and laughed, but not in a relaxed mouth position.
I have always hated having my picture taken so much it caused anxiety. At 47 years old and four years of looking at results and reviews online, I decided it was now or never. I was so excited about my upcoming surgery, but everyone around me tried to talk me out of it. I was set on this and nothing was going to change my mind. The countdown was on.
My surgery was performed by Dr. Jeffrey Spiegel of Advanced Facial Aesthetics located in Boston. It was pretty quick. On the way home, stuck in traffic, the anesthesia started to wear off and I was pretty nervous about how it was going to feel when it was totally worn off. It ended up being totally manageable. There was a bit of swelling (even my nose got big), and at first I wasn’t sure it was totally symmetrical, but I had faith this was going to work out. The swelling was actually kind of comical lol
Honestly, I was so fascinated by my results that I couldn’t stop looking at my face and I took a lot of pictures! This from a previous cameraphobe!
After about 48 hour I didn’t even need anything for pain other than ibuprofen.
At the end of day 4, I still had a bit of swelling and had to start back to work the following morning. I treated myself to a bunch of pistachios, and within 20 minutes of eating them, all of the swelling literally disappeared. It did not come back later or even the next day.
A week after surgery I went back to get the stiches out. I was not prepared for this lol. Anyone reading this, maybe take something for pain ahead of time. My stitches were so tight, and having something pulled at near/at my nostrils was by far the worst part of the experience! The scar isn’t even at this point, but it has only been a week. I bought the scar cream that the doctors office recommended.
By day 10, wearing light makeup, someone who has known me all of my life meets up with me for an hour and doesn’t notice anything going on with my face! On one hand, I was like, what the heck?! Am I not different enough?! But I think that Dr. Spiegel did such an amazing job that I just look natural!
At two weeks post op, I have forgotten what I even looked like before surgery. I have to check pictures to be sure this really happened! The scar continues to migrate to the correct position.
The doctor was amazing, as was his staff. Gracious professionals. This was worth every minute, every penny.
