Negative Experience with Dr. Tzu

I had a really negative experience with Dr. Tzu for treatment of an acne scar. After waiting nearly an hour after my appointment time to be seen, Dr. Tzu came into the consultation room with a terrible, hacking cough. Thankfully we were both wearing masks, but it was the kind of cough that, if you encountered her on the subway, you’d switch cars at the next stop. At one point she started coughing so much she had to excuse herself from the room for five minutes. I found this completely unprofessional and disgusting! She’s a doctor for Christ’s sake! If you’re sick, stay home.

I wish the negative experience ended there. But Dr. Tzu has the bedside manner of an elementary school nurse who thinks you’re faking it to get out of gym. “Friendly,” “gentle,” and “attentive” are not words that come to mind.

I ultimately opted for an $800 laser treatment for the scar (on top of the $300 “consult fee” which does not apply to treatments, as seems to be standard practice for most NYC dermatologists). She warned I would bruise for 1-2 weeks. After the treatment she goes “Oh wow, it actually might be more like 3-4 weeks.” Great, a month with a big bruise on my forehead. She then asks, accusingly “do you bruise easily or something?” as though I were the one who recommended the treatment. So cold and abrasive.

She gave me an icepack to hold against the area for 15 minutes. After 25 minutes passed without her returning to the room, I got up and walked out, where I found her huddled around a desk as if she had completely forgotten about me.

Overall, it was a very bad experience. From cost, to bedside manner, to overall satisfaction from the treatment (minimal, given I’m still bruised a month later), I cannot recommend Dr. Tzu.
