I’ve been seeking a laser to improve sun damage, crepe-y skin, brown spots, and slightly raised scars from biopsy sites and previous cysts. I originally went in with the intention to do Halo and BBL combo, but after meeting with the nurse, Robin, she explained that MLP was more aggressive and more ablative. I was unsure at first because the Halo treats scars better while the MLP is more superficial but actually removes skin (along with sun damage and superficial lesions). After speaking with Dr Bohley, we all agreed that doing the MLP first and then doing Halo/BBL after would yield better results. She gave me a list of home care items and pot op instructions to read through before the day of treatment.
2 days later I was ready to go! I took acyclovir the night before (to prevent cold sores), and 1 mg Ativan and 2 Percocet before I arrived. Then she washed my face and put lidocaine on to numb the area. She is very sweet and we chatted about the industry and about what to expect after the procedure. She’s very good about texting and calling too, before and after the procedure. She used a zimmer machine to cool my face during the laser. It lasted maybe 30-40 min to treat the entire face- during which I felt mild discomfort from the laser peeling the skin off. She did several passes, starting at lowest energy and increasing as we went along. Toward the end it was extremely uncomfortable because the lidocaine was wearing off and I could feel the sting and heat. Even the cool air hurt due to raw skin but I was a good sport and she praised me for my tolerance. Afterwards she applied cold packs and then more lidocaine and aquaphor. My friend drove me home since I was on pain meds, and the rest of the day I felt totally fine (except for slight nausea from the Percocet).
Day 2: slept elevated with a towel over my clean sheets, but when I woke up WOWZA did I hurt! So raw and painful, eyes swollen and skin tight I could hardly open my mouth. I spent 40 min icing, followed by water/vinegar soaks with gauze, then washed face gently and applied aquaphor. Took 2 ibuprofen and 1 Percocet and now I have no pain at all. Will update tmr.

Day 3

Lots of swelling this morning. I texted the nurse to ask if it was normal but I havent heard back yet. Continued icing and vinegar soaks and aquaphor. Peeling has started. Looking very red- like a burn victim- in overlap places. Right and uncomfortable but hoping it is going to be worth it.

Micro laser peels always turn out great. They are a little scary in the day or two after the procedure but once you get through it, results are worth it. Thanks for posting.

Thank you for your kind words. In your experience does skin look bad at 5 weeks out and then improve? Because that is where I am at if you look at my 5 week post.

hi guys. sorry it has taken me a while. I m currently just over 3 weeks out and I am noticing redness and some hyperpigmentation. I texted the nurse several times with pics and she said I am still healing. I started getting a red, irritated rash a few days ago so I have been using the following products: Avene hypersensitive regime, hydrocortisone 1%, Avene Cicalfate, and Vitanica Skin Support orally. I am hoping that the redness and slightly raised areas of hyperpigmentation go away in time. nervous that this may have damaged my skin further but praying that it is “all part of the process.” I can say that at this time I dont feel like it did anything for my scars yet except make them red, and I am looking blotchy and uneven in color right now. there are areas where the laser overlapped that are looking like scratches or burns? I am going to post photos again in a week after I have been using the new products for a while. the texture of skin on cheeks is more smooth, but eyes re looking crinkled right now (she only did one pass on this area at the end and it’s an obvious streak like look). Any tips would be appreciated! Again, I will post pics in a week or so to update progress.

I used to use Avène but it's all mineral oil, they got popular and the formula now is not so good . Did your dr tell you to put the hydrocortisone on? Careful not to end up with hypopigmentation . Another thing that helped me was I got on a rx antihistamine to ward off the rashes . Cosmetics are not going to help , I tried too, get high quality vitamins and try a cream for burns or you may end up with all the weird etched lines and holes , seems it's the same story over and over , that gross texture .

At this point I’m not happy at all, but I’m hopeful as I read that it can take months for remodeling. This is NOT a “weekend Peel” in my experience. Yes- the peeling I Lynn lasted 5 days, but the recovery to “Good” skin hasn’t happened yet. My skin has never been this dry, crepe-y, and irritated in my life! And there are most definite areas of hyperpigmentation where the laser overlapped. The scars I was trying to blend now look very white amidst a back drop of red and brown skin. My forehead looks like it is literally covered in wrinkles and pin holes (pores?). I’ve been religiously using Avene Cicalfate and the hypersensitive skin care line and not doing anything to it other than that. I want to cry every time I look in the mirror because my skin is so old looking. However- I’ve done research on here that says that after 3 months of some Erbium lasers people have great results.
I plan to give it a full 6 weeks (so next week) before I text the nurse again and ask to be seen for untoward side effects and make a game plan. She has been very nice and the plastic surgeon is kind and well respected so I have nothing against the office (unless they ignore me when I ask to be seen again). I did a LOT of research before choosing this office and have heard nothing but wonderful things so I feel like they know what they are doing. I pray to the good Lord that this is just “the dark before the dawn” because if this is my skin forever I will have to get more laser/peels/dermabrasion which I dont want to have to do.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your progress! I do hope you will post a few more times (with pics as well) to follow up on this. It would be good to know if you ended up happy with the results, or if you will have to go back for another treatment to fix whatever you weren't pleased with. I'm considering a laser peel on here in the PNW, so your end results and your satisfaction with the doctor and his staff are of special interest to me!

Hi,
My name is Laurie and I had this same laser 3 weeks ago. We need to stay in touch. I'm getting nervous too. My skin has always been very pretty. I had wrinkles around mouth and eyes that I wanted to get rid of. I have very dry skin around my mouth and it looks like orange peel textured skin around my mouth on the sides of my cheeks that I didn't have before and I am starting to get worried. It also looks like lines from the laser are still present on my face. The Doctor said that it just takes time to heal. I pray that everything works out for us both. The more that I research on line the more nervous I become to hear about so many people having side effects from the ablative lasers. Please post new photos while you are healing. I have heard that it could take 2 months for the skin to completely heal. Good luck to us both!

I had ipl and have the orange peel and lines , squiggly things , all
Of our skin looks identical in terms of these weird patterns , squares, lines , I was floored when I first saw it here because the dr told me I was imagining . It's so ugly , that gross texture , great way to age oneself a solid 15 years . Looks burnt, melted . Anyways , I wish I started earlier but use biafine . I started at week 5 and after 1 week it is improving some of the weird holes and lines . It looks like new skin is being patched in but it happened so quickly I keep wondering if it's permanent . It's used for burns in France and anyone with these patterns and texture changes , was burnt , doesn't matter what lies the dr's day , skin doesn't turn into orange peel
For no reason . I think it's melting the collogen and whatever supportive structures are under the skin so the skin shrivels up. Anyways , biafine is a prescription in the US but it helps with the hot feeling . For anyone getting rashes and itchy face , get on a strong antihistamine , each flare up makes things worse . Also , don't wash your face with cleanser , just splash warm water and pat dry. Dropping the cleansing was the best thing I did these 5-6 weeks but I didn't know early on and kept washing and making it worse . One other thing I did , which I'm not advocating , was take oral steroids . I have physical Health issues but a dude affect is fat in the face so I took a short course . I don't know , I've never seen anyone's weird texture resolve on any of these posts o elsewhere online , they all look equally damaged years later so I hsve low hopes for myself . The biafine is patching in the nicks and holes but maybe 3 months for nis my face deflates. I also don't see how it's possible to remove the imprinting and orange peel , it's like it's melted in there

I’m sorry that happened to you and so many others. I feel like there are definitely things that can be done to improve it, but the cost seems high on many levels of the meaning. I will look into Biafine form my derm. I actually Just started red light LED therapy a couple days ago. I’ll post about that soon too.

Hi, I would pay anything to fix it but there is nothing and no way to fix it , the skin is imprinted , all the dots and lines and branded in there , like scars . And the pigment changes are a nightmare because we get hyper and hypo and treating one further destroys the other . The elastin is and collagen is ruined and no way to bring that back , if there was, peoole wouldn't have wrinkles . That's why the fsce is so dry and wrinkly . There are no fixes in a derm or plastic surgeon office although they are so glad to hsve you desperate and will try to sell
You other things . The derm I saw told me to do a different laser then said she didn't see the problem after I declined , she was literally almost laughing . A sick b*tch. I think you should not do anything to your face and see what happens . Please go see another dr , someone not in the cosmetic industry bevaude they'll just try to sell you another procedure
