I had fat transfer to my lips in 1996 (different doctor). That was a huge waste of money, VERY painful and very traumatic. At the time it was $2500 . After taking 6 months to heal, my body absorbed all 100% of the fat transfer. I was left with nothing. Jump ahead to 2016 and my silly daughter and husband call me "Little Frowny Face" because my lips are so thin and turned down..that it looks like I am unhappy all the time. I decided to try Jevederm lip injections. I found Dr. Bryson Richards on RealSelf. He has a great attitude , is very knowledgeable on the latest techniques and he gets you in and done fast. I would say that it VERY important that you doctor performs the procedure using the cannula technique. Dont let another doctor talk you into a different method. Yes, it may be easier for them to NOT use this method....then that is not the doctor for you. With the cannula technique I experienced : almost 0% bruising, faster healing, less swelling and less pain during / after . I had 1cc placed in the upper lip and 1cc placed in the lower. I was very detailed and clear about my desired results and shape. The doctor in turn was honest about what could and could not be achieved. I am very happy with my results. My husband says they look great! I no longer have to draw on lips with lip liner. I am glad I did not get less filler. I think most people will be disappointed if they get less than 1cc for each lip. As far as pain, well it hurt less that getting a tattoo. It hurt 1000 times less than dental work. Warning: on day 2 your lips might swell a little more....dont worry that will go down. PIC INCLUDED: Not so fancy pic of me , no make-up, just taking it easy in day 3

I took a pick with lipstick. I wanted everyone to see the shape.....that I did not have the "duck lips" .

All the swelling has gone
bejonbarloweMarch 12, 2016
Well any swelling I had is now gone. My lips have " settled" . I have my fingers crossed that they will stay for 6 -12 months.
ABSORPTION: the fat transfer was just the worst thing ever for me. My doctor was very rough. By the time I healed from the trama to my lips...all that fat was gone. For the Juvederm I am 5 days out now. If they stay like this for a year...I will be super happy. I really dont know yet how much I will absorb of the product. I am so happy with the results that I would hate to say in 3-6 months that they are gone. BUT the doctor seems to think that this is it and I might get a year out of them. HEALING: there will be one day...most likely day 2, when you get the Duck Lips. But mine went away the very next day. You want to stress that you dont want the injection fill to deep or to far back. PAIN: I did not get any pre-pain meds or creams. Thats right nothing. But, my doctor used the better or higher quality Juvederm that has a pain killer in it. After they make the pocket or canal. They start filling and man does that feel better. You can feel the second the pain killer starts to work. (Hurts less than getting ears pierced) SIZE BEFORE: well i was a master at the lip contouring. But I wasnt fooling anyone. If I was not smiling then there was no lip showing. I will try and find a non-lipstick picture so you can see the size.
