Tray 11 of 23

Well, I'm officially halfway through!
Recently, an attachment on my left canine came off. When I went into the dentist she told me that it was supposed to come off because the trays would push it off as I progressed. This didn't make a lot of sense to me, and still doesn't. I just looked at the video progression of my teeth week by week and that attachment is on the whole time, so I'm going to call and talk to the dentist again because I think she was incorrect. Anyway, I'm halfway through yay! You can definitely see a difference between tray 1 and 11! I'm so happy and excited for this journey to continue! Here are my updated pictures. Tray 1 and 11.

I never had braces as a child so my teeth weren't too great. I decided to get Invisalign because my 13-year-old brother needed traditional braces and was scared so we are doing it together! I was afraid to get them after reading a lot of freaky reviews.
A few things I was worried about:
-the braces being totally noticeable
-the 'scary attachments' slicing my tongue or cheeks or making the braces way more noticeable
- the braces themselves slicing my tongue or cheeks
- a bad lisp
- and basically my mouth/teeth/gums just hurting everywhere and being too much to take.
My review:
I'm on tray 4 of 23 so I feel pretty confident that I can so far solidly review these and hopefully dispel some fears for people like myself who are getting freaked out after reading scary things.
After first getting Invisalign I was a little bummed because I needed 17 attachments, mostly on the top teeth. When I got them on I was upset about how noticeable I thought they were. Within a week I felt WAY better. I have attachments all across my top teeth so they're definitely more noticeable than without attachments, however the attachments quickly faded to match my real teeth. Without the invisalign on you don't notice the attachments almost at all. I feel like people who say no one notices the Invisalign are pretty lucky because I think mine is at least somewhat noticeable in normal conversation. However it is true that people I briefly speak to don't seem to notice it- it's really just when I hysterically laugh at something or am talking to someone for a while that people notice and ask about it. A lot of my friends take hours to notice (which is saying something because I laugh a lot).
The attachments haven't hurt me AT ALL. They're not sharp and don't slice me at all!
The first two nights I had the trays the edges hurt my gums and did feel like they were slicing me a little. I went back to the dentist and had her file them down. Since then only one other tray bothered me around the edge and with that one I just used a little bit of sandpaper to file them and it worked like a charm.
The first two days I had them didn't hurt my teeth, but I felt like a had so much spit and couldn't speak properly and didn't even know how to hold my mouth anymore! It wasn't unbearably annoying, just a little bit annoying and i VERY QUICKLY got used to them which was so great.
I'm up to tray four now and the pain hasn't been bad AT ALL. Maybe I'm just lucky but I just want people to know that there are good stories out there! I've definitely felt tender at times so I know they're working but I haven't had to take Advil once and haven't been upset about the pain at all. I just can't wait to continue this journey and have my teeth be beautiful!
Every day during one of my meals I soak my Invisalign trays in a capful of clear listerine, warm water, and 3/4 cap of kleenite denture cleaner. I also brush them softly with a toothbrush and the leftover toothpaste from brushing my teeth. My breath stays pretty much fresh but occasionally I feel like it smells and brush them lightly for no reason.
My boyfriend says he's already noticing a difference in my teeth which makes me really happy. I don't really notice it because I see them every day. As for kissing that hasn't been a problem at all- he says he doesn't even notice them/doesn't care even if he did.
I was almost turned off when I read reviews about how much it hurt/how horrible it was but i am SO GLAD I did it!
Everyone's story is different so don't let anyone's story make you decide not to do something. I'm so glad I went through with it. My insurance didn't cover any of it because I'm 23 and it cost $5100 but since my mom couldn't afford my braces when I was younger (which is the main reason I didn't get them then) she's helping me pay it (Thank god for moms!) But even if she wasn't I still would've done it. I'm just so happy so far!
Make sure you ask your dentist/orthodontist about CareCredit- I got a 2 year plan to pay it all off interest free and most dentists/orthos will provide you with that option from what I've heard.

I LOVE Dr. Ajmera. She's a little abrupt- she told me I would probably cry my first week of trays from the pain- but I'm pretty sure she was joking? I joke a LOT so I just laughed at her. Anyway she has been AWESOME. One of my attachments came off the day after and she squeezed me in immediately and put it back on. She's very down-to-earth and let's you know what's going on. She's super straightforward. She seems great. I go back for my 8-week checkup next week so we'll see how it goes!
