Life Changing Procedure!

Dr. Salisbury and the team at meridian park hospital provided me with the best possible surgery experience I could’ve asked for. Everyone was so kind and comforting, especially Dr. Salisbury who immediately eased my nerves. I couldn’t have picked a better person to provide such an intimate surgery. It’s my first day post-op and i’m already thrilled with the results. I’ve experienced almost no pain and have taken minimal pain killers. I can tell that the surgical site is still swollen, but that the final result will look exactly how i’d imagined. This surgery is truly life changing as a young woman, and I highly recommend it if you experience any discomfort or insecurity with that area.
Update: I’ve reached the 6 week healing point and I couldn’t be happier with my results, it’s exactly what I wanted. I’m significantly more comfortable wearing certain clothes and I’m way more confident in my body. Getting this procedure was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I do strongly recommend doing serious research on both the procedure and different providers before making a decision - and for me, Dr. Salisbury was the perfect choice.

Backstory:
I’m only 20, but I’ve dealt with discomfort and insecurity in that area since I was about 13. I decided that it was holding me back from certain aspects of my life both physically (working out, swimming) and emotionally (wasn’t happy with my body, didn’t want to form intimate relationships). Getting the procedure at such a young age was beneficial for me because it meant I could heal quickly, and I could move on with my life faster. Although it was expensive, the end result paid off and I won’t have to worry about it holding me back for the rest of my life.

Here’s a breakdown of my recovery:
Week 1:
The night I went home after surgery I took 1 of the prescribed pain killers, but for the rest of the week I only took ibuprofen/tylenol every couple hours, and by day 7 I was able to go the entire day without any meds. The area was extremely itchy throughout the week, but that was the most discomfort I experienced. I was in almost no pain, but I took the week off school/work to ensure I didn’t accidentally push myself too hard. I also iced diligently throughout the first week!

Week 2:
By week 2 I was getting back to my normal movement. I was able to walk to class and back with no problems, but I did have to walk at a slower pace than normal. The area was still itchy sometimes but I would just ice it for relief. I still tried to find time to rest this week as much as possible so that I could heal quickly.

Week 3:
By week 3 I felt entirely normal. The only disruption from my normal life was having to use a pad on my period. I could walk to class easily, I could wear jeans with minimal discomfort, there was still no pain, and itching had subsided.
(and yes jeans, leggings, and underwear are already significantly more comfortable without all the extra tissue down there)

Week 4:
No big changes from week 3. I’ve noticed that the stitches have dissolved more and the swelling has gone down a bit.

Week 5:
Nothing has changed since week 4. I’m still waiting for the rest of my stitches to dissolve. I can clean myself normally in the shower now without being extra cautious and i’m almost to the point of wiping normally.

Week 6:
I finally made it the full 6 weeks! There haven’t been any big changes. I have one stitch I’m still waiting to dissolve but the end result looks so good. This whole process has been significantly better than I imagined it being, and I’m so much happier with my body now. I had so many worries going into this procedure about a loss of sensation or surgery complications and I’ve been so lucky to have such a smooth recovery.

Week 7:
I decided to keep updating until i got my 6 week post-op clearance, which happened to be exactly at week 7. Everything has healed quite well and the swelling has gone down even more. I love the result so much, you can’t even tell I had surgery in the area.

Note: I took pictures of my progress every single day after i got out of the shower and the swelling truly doesn’t go down until about week 3 - that’s when you’ll be able to start see how it’s actually going to look. I can even see the swelling fluctuate between days and it’s still going down at week 7.
