59 Year Old Man Lost Weight Time to Lose the Turkey Neck! - La Mesa, CA

Lost a lot of weight and developed a significant gobbler that made me look older than I feel, so after a significant amount of thought decided to move forward. I had gone down to Mexico and received a hair transplant in June ($3000 for about 1500 grafts; too soon to evaluate, as it doesn't really start growing in for 4+ months...) and got an estimate there for my neck lift. Had heard about Dr. Sessions here in the San Diego area, went in and the estimate was virtually the same. Scheduled it for the following week and had it done Sept 23rd. Operation was a breeze, with only a burning/stinging sensation the evening of the operation, but that subsided the next day. My wife and I even stopped and enjoyed lunch at a restaurant on the way home from the "day after" appointment. My only concern is that here I am 26 days after surgery and I still have a significant amount of swelling! The areas below both ears are still puffy to the point that its pulling on the area where the sutures were and splitting a tiny bit. My ears and neck are numb, as is my jawline. On my jaw on my left side about halfway to my chin is an egg shaped bump with a dimple in the middle; on my right size a dime size similar bump. I'm thinking, based on what I'm seeing, that its taking longer than usual. Should I be concerned?

hello,

the swelling of this type procedure can last for 3 months or more, eventually it have to come down, still i would recommend to have some sessions of ultrasound in the area or even radiofrecuency to help you, still you should ask your surgeon his recommendations, since he is the only one who knows you case better.

I would call Dr Sessions ASAP and ask to be seen. My sister in law had face, jaw, neck lift as well as laser surgery. She also developed a dime size red bump on her cheek, she called, he said come in either that day or the next day. Turned out it was nothing and it did go away, after 2 weeks. As a former nurse I believe it is time for you to call Dr S and be seen , maybe there is an issue, maybe you just heal slower. Let us know what happens. I know my daughter has had work done by him, when she had questions he had her come in. When her husband had his eyes done and after a week he was concerned about the swelling Dr Session told him to come back in. Please call today. Let him know the Angione's/ McGowens think he is a great Dr and always takes care of his patients.

Thanks so much for sharing! Sorry you're still experiencing swelling. What does your doctor say about this? Here's what some doctors say about swelling after a neck lift. I hope you'll keep us updated on how you're healing!

He says be patient, this is normal, especially with men because we have a lot more blood supply to the facial area because of our facial hair. His nurse also recommended lymphatic massage (gently rubbing in small circles; first completely around your bellybutton, then across your armpit, then starting at your ears and working your way down your neck towards your heart). This is less of a massage and more of just a light surface rubbing; moving the skin but not pushing deeply into the underlying tissue. She claims this activates the lymph glands and promotes healing. We'll see how this goes...

Good Luck, Lymph gland massage does help with reducing swelling. You can do it yourself or look up massage therapists in your area that do lymph massage ( make sure you tell them what you are doing it for and that they have excellent reviews. Again my sister in law had jaw surgery as well as laser around her mouth, face lift, eyes, etc. It took at least 2 months for the swelling to mostly go down. She also had the red lump/bump you spoke about. He saw her and said it would go away in a week or two, it did. I am glad you took our advice and called him. Did he mention using Arnica or any Homeopathic remedy? Using ice? Good luck in your continued healing , please keep us updated. Again, glad you called him!
October 24, 2015
Yeah, 4 weeks out I am told that Arnica and ice have virtually no benefit. Maybe a warm compress just for soothing and the lymphatic massage and TIME...

Bummer.... I used Arnica and Trammel after my knee replacement surgery. Best of luck keep us updated! Thanks.

What did Dr Sessions say when you called him about this? Have you sent him pictures?
October 28, 2015
Yes, I went in to see him, he looked it over and felt there was nothing to be concerned with, and that given time it'll go away. I'm only 5 weeks post op today, so we'll see.

At this point I could not be more pleased! The swelling and unevenness (as the Dr. said) has dissipated and I have a smooth natural appearance. Still a little numbness in my jawline/upper neck, and the scars on the back of my neck are a little red/tender at times, but all-in-all, I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Probably the easiest, quickest way to take years off your appearance!

Dear Sir. I have a question. I plan to get a neck lift; however, it appears as if your healing process took quote a long time. Can you tell me exactly how long it took before the temporary "flaws" dissipated? I ask because of my occupation. I was told it would take about two weeks; whereas information on this site and others say it will take between 4 to 6 weeks. Any information will be appreciated.
