WORTH IT
After years of sun damage and age, my hands needed to be rejuvenated. After reading reviews and doing research, I decided to have the Fraxel Repair procedure performed on my hands.
I have had other laser work down on my face and neck with no complications so I thought doing a laser procedure on my hands would be routine and uneventful. For my other laser procedures that I have had, I did take antibiotics before the procedure. Unfortunately, I never asked my doctor if I should take antibiotics before my Fraxel hand procedure and so I did not take any antibiotics before the
procedure.
(Side note: May I suggest that if you are having any laser procedures, I recommend you discuss the need for antibiotics before the procedure with your doctor)
Within one week after the procedure, I continued to have severe pain in my hands and my hands were not healing. My doctor was very concerned and did a biopsy. The biopsy results indicated that both hands were infected. My doctor immediately put me on antibiotics but the infection caused many problems with my hands. (see pictures)
My hands took weeks to heal. As you can see from my pictures, my hands were discolored, covered with bumpy raised skin like keloids, and the skin was very hard. My hands looked and felt like alligator skin. A real mess! Needless to say, I was devastated.
It should be noted that my doctor that did the procedure was a highly respected board certified cosmetic dermatologist. With my hands getting infected, I learned that even under the best of care, every procedure comes with some risks.
I trusted my doctor completely that he would be able to fix my hands once the infection cleared up. However, unfortunately, my doctor died unexpectedly and I was left with the daunting task to find another doctor that I could trust and had the skill set to make my hands look normal again.
I was very fortunate to find a board certified cosmetic laser dermatologist, Dr. William Groff, who is an EXPERT with correcting botched cosmetic laser procedures, as well as, correcting complications caused by lasers. Dr Groff is world renowned for his ability to correct other doctor's procedures that have gone wrong.
When I first met Dr.Groff, he was compassionate and told me that it would take time to get back the normal appearance of my hands. Dr. Groff explained to me that he had over 45 lasers in his practice and he would use a combination of these lasers to correct the problems with my hands. He asked me to be patient with the process to correct the issues with my hands but promised me that he would get my hands back to normal.
After my meeting with Dr.Groff, I was so relieved because Dr. Groff cared about my concerns, answered all my questions and reassured me that he would not give up on my hands until I was happy with their appearance.
During each treatment procedure, Dr Groff used various combinations of his lasers. It was a slow process because my hands needed to heal after each procedure. However, I always felt confident in Dr. Groff's ability to get my hands back to normal. I could see improvement after every treatment.
It took months to get my hands to look and feel normal again but it was well worth it. Dr. Groff is an amazing dermatologist. Not only is he a brilliant cosmetic dermatologist but also a compassionate and caring doctor. He has a wonderful bedside manner which made the treatment procedures more enjoyable. His staff always called me the next day after a procedure to see how I was doing.
Based on my research to correct my hands from the laser complications, I learned that it is impossible for one kind of laser to do everything. For that reason, it made sense for me to select Dr. Groff for my treatment because he has over 45 lasers in his practice that he could use to treat my disfigured hands. The other doctors that I consulted with to fix my hands only had a few lasers in their practice which would limit the kinds of laser treatments used to correct my hands.
After every procedure, Dr. Groff would evaluate my hands and then picked the correct combination of lasers to get more improvement with my hands. Dr. Groff gave 110% effort to give my hands the best possible results.
I think that you would agree after looking at my pictures of my hands, Dr. Groff did an amazing job getting my hands to look normal again and to rejuvenate them. I am thrilled how my hands look now. My before and after pictures prove that Dr.Groff is an exceptional and skilled dermatologist.
Because Dr. Groff has an excellent reputations for correcting botched cosmetic procedures, I highly recommend him for ALL cosmetic procedures but especially if you find yourself with an undesirable result from a laser or other cosmetic procedure. I hope that anyone reading this review never has a laser or cosmetic procedure that goes wrong but if you do, do not despair. Call Dr. Groff and at least get a free consultation. Dr. Groff has offices on both the East Coast (PA) and West Coast (CA).
Over the months going through treatments, I have met many of Dr. Groff's patient in his waiting room. I was amazed how far his patients travel to be treated by him. His patients told me that he is an expert with other cosmetic dermatology procedures like injectables, vein treatments, Thermi, Ultheraphy,
and body sculpting like liposuction. Everyone seem to agree that he is the “BEST” of the Best of Cosmetic Dermatologists.
If you are thinking about a cosmetic or laser procedure, I would suggest you get a free consultation with Dr. Groff. Dr. Groff has extensive experience with cosmetic and laser procedures which ensures that each patient receives a custom personalized treatment plan based on their individual needs and unique cosmetic goals. I have had consultations with other cosmetic laser dermatologist and
recommended treatment plans for me were disappointing because their recommendations were based upon the limited laser and cosmetic procedures offered by their practice.
I hope by sharing my experience with others, you will benefit from my knowledge. The lesson learned with my experience with my hands is that you cannot predict or get 100% “guarantees” with the result of any laser or cosmetic procedure. Therefore, I highly recommend that you start' with Dr. Groff for any laser or cosmetic procedure which will give you the best opportunity for a great result. Then, if something goes wrong, at least you would be with the BEST doctor that can fix any problems that might come up. I definitely plan to have other treatments with Dr. Groff and will post my reviews and results.

WOW! Thank you for posting your ordeal. It opened my eyes to risks associated with Fraxel. I have been thinking about having Fraxel done on my face and maybe my neck. I live in LA but based on your experience it is worth driving to LaJolla to have Dr.Groff do my procedure. I am happy for you that Dr. Groff could fix your hands. You must be so relieved that your hands look normal again.

Hi Wendy,
Yes, I am relieved and thrilled with my results. I never thought anyone could fix my hands until I met Dr. Groff. He has a amazing track record for fixing “botched” procedures. With over 45 lasers, I felt confident that he had the tools and experience to save my hands. I travel a great distance to see Dr Groff but it is worth it. Even though you live is Los Angeles, I would highly recommend that you get a free consultation with Dr. Groff before you finalize your plans to do fraxel on your face. I guarantee you will enjoy your consultation because Dr.Groff is warm, caring, and a good listener. He will take time to thoroughly explain the procedure so you know what to expect plus he will discuss alternative procedures if he thinks another procedure would get you better results. He will not try to sell you procedures you do not need. One of the best things about Dr. Groff is that he goes the “extra mile” to make his patients happy. Good Luck with your decision to do fraxel.
Thank you so much for taking the time and sharing such a detailed review. The treatment itself looks painful on the hands, but totally worth it - your results are incredible!
