Kybella Fail
I had 3 rounds of Kybella treatment for fullness under my chin between Dec 2016-October 2018 and it did absolutely nothing. The last treatment was done gratis and without numbing agent and with a greater number of injections and product (I would not have paid for a third treatment, but was game to try it in case the numbing agent had affected prior outcomes). I liked my doctor and will return to her to discuss other options, but it will be a while before I can afford anything. Kybella was expensive, the swelling was obvious for about a week each time, and it hurt. I have no needle-phobia and while it wasn't pleasant, I found it tolerable at least. I wish it had done even a little bit of what it's supposed to - it makes me sad to think about the time and money wasted after I had gotten my hopes up to be rid of this pad of fat that makes me so miserable. In my opinion, the fail-rate is grossly understated.

My first treatment was likely on the conservative side. I did not expect to see results from that...I had been told that it would be at least 2 treatments before there would be any slight difference. The second treatment used more product, though I couldn't tell you how much. I think it was 2 full vials. When that failed to produce any result, my doctor spoke to her rep and they offered me my third round for free, which I thought was really cool of them. I appreciated that. Though it seemed unlikely, my doctor suggested we forgo the numbing agent and used at least 2 full vials to the submental area. I think there were more injections, too...but maybe it's just that I felt every single one without that numbing. It swelled the same as before (which is apparently good). It was jiggly, gross, and bruised for a week. I did one or two stop-ins for photo follow-ups, but they showed no improvement.
On Kybella's website, they post the results of their studies. Only 15% of people saw significant improvement after 6 rounds. 72% of people saw a moderate. That means there are some that had no improvement. For what reason, I don't know. Maybe it has to do with how the body metabolizes it.
