Kybella — Honest Review with before and after

WORTH IT$1,500
I have a hereditary slight double chin. The fat pad beer my chin has become more noticeable after 30. Recently I decided to make some cosmetic changes without surgery, mainly injectables. So I decided to try Kybella. Went for consult. My doctor said I was a good candidate. The amount of fat deposit in the submental area under my chin was concentrated. Also being on the younger side my skin is still elastic and has the ability to contract better.
Before: my doctor was very upfront about the procedure. She stated she had had it done so she knew what I could expect from first hand experience. She mentioned a “bullfrog” look to the chin and neck area after the injection. I didn’t understand at the time but ...she was right. Here is what she mentioned.. swelling under the chin giving a waddle or bull frog appearance.
Redness and swelling with possible bruising at injection sites
Numbness of neck (skin) for up to 6-8 weeks after procedure
No exercises for probably about 3 -4 days after
Expect a feeling of solidness in the treated area as the days progress
Expect to feel solid round lumps in chin area from injections. These are palpable but not visible. They go away over time with healing.
You are able to do more vials (I did three) t one time at the first visit and it might be enough where you won’t need a second or third.
During:
First I was given topical numbing cream which I applied to m throat and neck area. I focused especially on the underside of my jaw line near the mandibular ridge as I had a feeling the boney areas would be more painful (I was right). Next, I was given an ice pack to additionally hold on the area as she prepared the syringes. My doctor added lidocaine to my Kybella syringes. I had three syringes in total at my first visit. Next, after I was numb and cold, she sterilized the area and applied a “grid pattern temporary tattoo”. Basically it’s a series of dots used to space out the injection sites based on how much of the kybella you are having injected so it treats the whole submental fat pad area equally (under your chin). Next, she sterilized the area one more time. Next , With gloved hands she said “ okay I’m going to kind of lift the skin a bit and then you’ll feel a quick pinch”
Now, I’m not going to lie .....these first few injections, really hurt. She did a few and the first was the worst. Then not so bad. For some reason the injection sites closer to the bend in my mandible/jaw bone hurt soooooo bad. It was quite sore and I took a little break after the right side one to breathe. However, after a few moments the lidocaine mixed in with the Kybella she had just injected into the area began to take effect. The pain subsided and the area became numb. As she continued wit the rest of the injections in that area I couldn’t feel a thing. I had to ask if she was still injecting. Then came the other side and the really painful part again. Took a few moments for the lidocaine to kick in, then continued and I couldn’t feel anything. And that was it!
As the kybella is injected , even though the lidocaine numbed the area, the kybella causes a strange feeling. Like a burning sensation almost. Eventually that went away. She wiped off the dot grid and I put the ice pack back on and was done.
After:
I felt a little strange afterwards. I think my body was adjusting to what had just happened. My head hurt a little like a mild headache. And my neck muscles on either side felt a bit stiff/sore.
When I looked in the mirror immediately after the injections, my neck was a bit red and my chest a bit splotchy. The area she had injected with the liquid Kybella was now more puffy and “double-chiny ” than before. I knew this would happen but wasn’t completely prepared for the triple chin look! lol
I was heading home to hide away for the weekend in my house so I didn’t really care. The ice felt really good after the procedure.
The drive home was a little tricky. When I tried to turn my head while driving to look to the side it was a bit uncomfortable. The best way I can explain it is a tightness feeling in the muscles that turn your head and neck. It was because of the excess fluid in the area stretching the skin. It wasn’t unbearable but if you have someone to drive you, I might suggest it. However, I drove 1:30 Home so wasn’t impossible. I was sore though.
At home I got more sore. This was definitely more uncomfortable than having injectables such as filler or Botox. It’s in a bigger area and the kybella burns more.
I iced my neck and chin for rest of the night and went to bed.

Day 1 — so much swelling!
Cchiro84May 7, 2018
So Friday was Day 1. I woke up and my neck absolutely felt and looked like a bullfrog. Full on double or triple chin going on. Nasty bruises on left side of throat which I talk about in more detail below.
There is a jiggly feeling to my throat waddle. Every movement causes the jiggly feeling. It is all of the fluid accumulation in the area. It peaks at worst on Day 1. No exercise and not much activity for me Day 1. Still sore. Especially at the corners. When any pressure applied , soreness occurs but the skin is numb. Very very numb. I HIGHLY suggest ice on/off all Day 1. Made a huge difference. No pain killers for me. Just stayed home and laid low. Mostly lying down. Mild headache. Neck muscles felt spasms and tight and stiff since Day 0.
I ended up with some pretty nasty looking bruises However these only appeared on my left side... as you can see from my photos , I was also experiencing an acne breakout on my left jawline. Only on the left. I was also having difficulty healing a cut on my left arm. It been there for a long time.
The right side of my face is clear. I take good care of my skin and so I’m slightly concerned there might be something else more systemic going on causing just my left side to be affected.
Because of that, I would venture to say most people probably would not bruise quite as much as I did. My doctor had told me she didn’t expect me to bruise much at all, and as you can see there is virtually nothing on my right side. A little concerning... but I digress. Day 1 is by far the worst.

It says the average price is $1500, is that just for one session cause I’ve been reading that doctors recommend 2-6 treatments.

i had 3 treatments at a cost of 3500with another 200for extra skin tightening procedures x4 I would not recommend this at all .for that amount of money I was expecting something noticeable

Yes I had 3 viles of Kybella that totaled $1500. I think if you have a significant amount of submental (under chin fat, prob more than I had) you would need more than one treatment/3 viles. I had not much so I think that will be it for me. Also, Kybella is relatively expensive in comparison to what it does so lipo might be easier and cheaper. I’m still skeptical if it worked too.....

Day 2 — Unexpected overnight improvement!!
Cchiro84May 7, 2018
Day 2 — after day 1 I went to bed with a GIANT jiggly bullfrog waddle triple chin. Woke up Day 2 and soooo much of the swelling had gone down I couldn’t believe it!! The jiggly-ness had decreased somewhat. And so did the soreness. I believe it was the icing. (I did not do icing on Day 0. However for Day 1 I had iced on and off all day and I think it made a big difference. )
However I would find out later that this first day had the most dramatic recovery of the next few days of the healing process. I kept hoping each consecutive day after would show equal amounts of improvement but alas, not so much. I was so thrilled with the improvement that I slapped some cover up on the bruises and my face acne, put on a red lip and went out for a bit. I was very self conscious still but I got out for some errands.
