So, here's my first blog after reading so many other's! I'm choosing not to post photos at the moment as I use a computer provided by my employer and don't want to have to save the photos to this computer before uploading them. When my personal computer gets fixed, I will upload then.
I started this journey several years ago (back in the 1990's), but got discouraged when I read somewhere that it could cost as much as $100,000 to have my implants removed! So, I put it in the back of my mind until one day about a year ago I was on YouTube late one night, and found there were videos posted there by surgeons. The one that caught my eye was in the UK from the Aurora Clinic. The surgeon there removed implants, then when performing a lift, used the breast tissue to add volume rather than cutting it away. This is what I wanted, but couldn't find any surgeons here in the US who performed the same procedure. Then I found RealSelf. I've used this site to see what other's have gone through, particularly those who have had their implants long term (mine have been in since 12/89). Since there weren't many, I looked at other's, including those who had experienced difficulties post explant, providing me questions to ask when I was ready to start talking to surgeons. Thank you one and all for your stories. They've helped me a great deal.
I've now spoken to three surgeons, one over the phone (Dr. Horndeski in Texas), and two locally ( Dr. Grenley in Seattle, Washington and Dr. Windle in Kirkland, Washington). The first, Dr. Horndeski didn't seem to grasp that I was not concerned with upper pole fullness, but in having natural breasts that looked and felt natural, so I moved on to Dr. Grenley. He is very friendly, knowledgeable, answered every one of my questions and provided me price quotes for explant without a lift with removal of the capsule, and with a lift. He also explained to me in detail why I was not a candidate for the Benelli lift, and that was fine with me. You see, I'm not all that concerned about scarring, I just want to hug someone without feeling an implant coming between us! LOL!
Today I had to opportunity to meet with Dr. Windle, and was sold! His price was less expensive than either Dr. Hondeski or Dr. Grenley, he told me my implants could be removed under local anesthesia cutting the costs in half, and when I asked about a potential lift, he went into detail as to how he would perform the lift and Hallelujah, it was the exact procedure I had seen on YouTube! Dr. Windle talked with me about the history of silicone implants, as I was one of those people that got them just before they were taken off the market amide the horror stories and was actually a part of the Dow Corning Lawsuit. However, I never got to utilize the funds provided in that suit because the surgeon who performed my augmentation, left the clinic where the procedure was performed, and took my file (and others) with him and I was unable to find him!
So, here I am now. I have a lot on my plate at the moment as I hold a full and part time jobs, I am a graduate MBA student and I'm getting ready to start a business of my own, but plan to have my implants removed and my breasts lifted in February!
The countdown begins!

Congratulations for making the decision to explant. There are so many wonderful stories here on RealSelf that will provide you great insight and knowledge. Tomorrow will only be 2 weeks since my explant and I have been literally IN BLISS since they were removed. Having a local anesthesia will certainly make your recovery easier. Please keep us posted - I look forward to hearing about your journey!

Like you, my implants were the late 80's version. I kept them in for all these years without a lot of health issues, excepting a period of time right after they were implanted. Still, the firmness, the unnatural look always bothered me a lot, and I couldn't be happier to be just me, finally, even though I'm still in the healing stage. I'm so glad you've told your story, and will encourage others who are on the fence to take the leap. Good luck to you, and let us know how it goes for you!

Thank you! I'm not sure exactly when I will have them removed, but it will most definately be some time next year!

Hi
what kind of lift will you have?

I saw it in a video on Youtube from a British surgeon, but I can't remember what is called. Basically, your own tissue is folded under and into the breast to create volume, and the nipple is raised. Here's a link to the video I watched that will provide you a better idea: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CIXjIeJ2LjM

There is a specific name for this type of lift that Dr. Windle told me, I just don't remember what it is. LOL!
You are going to love giving hugs without implants and so many women report feeling very light and free once the implants are gone.
Please keep us posted!
