Hi RS girls,
I have been stalking this site for quite some time now. First when i got my BR last year, (which I LOVE) and now when I decided to go to the flat side. Sorry, I have no before pictures of the girls, I wasn'the brave enough to do it at the time. Taking those before shots last night of my flabby saggy tummy was hard. I have been avoiding looking directly at my stomach for years, hoping that if i didn't acknowledge it, it would go away. It didn't, if got worse.....ugh
Last year, when I got my BR, the Dr also gave me a consult and price for my TT. I go back on January 20th for a 2nd consult and my surgery date is booked for March 26. I have already booked my time off work but no one at work knows what i am doing. (I told them I am going to Seattle for a girlie shopping week with my best friend. )
The girls at work would judge me and I don't want to have to explain or defend my decision, have you also felt that you would be judged for doing this?
Thankfully, my husband who loves me the way I am, supports me completely, knowing this will make me happy. The other person who knows is my best friend and she said, "you go girl! "
I am on vacation in Mexico right now and i have been stalking this site every day and GETTING SO EXCITED!
When I get home, I am going on a strict diet and exercise program to get as close to my goal weight before surgery as I can. I will keep you posted! SO EXCITED!

I felt the same way about being judged. I've only told 3 people, other than immediate family. I requested 2 weeks off work and told my immediate supervisor (a man) that I will be having a hernia repaired. I'm sure it will be noticeable when I return, so I'll tell them I decided to include a TT with the surgery. I work with all guys in my department, so they don't really care about that kind of stuff anyway. One of my coworkers is one of the people I told the truth to. He's good at keeping his mouth shut, and I found out his wife has had 2 breast reductions... so he was a little helpful discussing the aftercare :) I'm scheduled for Jan 30, so I'm getting really excited. Best wishes to you!!

Best wishes to you too, only a couple more weeks for you! You're right, the peeps at work will likely see a difference but I will tell them that low carb diets work miracles! Lol

Good luck! You will love being on the flat side. I have no regrets. I did work out like a maniac weeks before surgery. I figured the more I lost the more skin would hang so the doctor could cut off from one shot. Some people loose after the tt and then they need a revision and I didn't want that. Make sure you tell him to D the moms pub is (pubic area) some doctors don't do it unless you ask. My pubic area had to be lipoed.. If your hotel in Mexico has a Gym make time and go. I came back from Mexico with 13 pound Xtra :-o. Take care and please keep us posted :-)

Thank you honey. I had it and it is one week post op already. You know my tummy was similar to yours. You will be looking even more gorgeous soon.

Good for you. I had breast lift and tt, I'm 18 weeks post op, very pleased with my results. I have had a bit of trouble with a small hole in my incision, but time is helping. You said in your post that you are taking one week off work...I hope that's long enough. I was able to leave the house after a week but not to spend 8 hours at work. My advice is clean the house, get groceries...stuff high in fiber is a good idea, cough drops, water and bendy straws, I know that sounds weird but sometimes getting straight up for a sip of water is difficult. Make yourself get up and walk, I did laps around my dining room table...baby steps. Best of luck to you!

I will be taking a little longer than that, thankfully. By the time I go back to work I will be 12 days post op. When I had my BR, I went back to work on the 5Th day PO, but that really was too soon. Luckily I have a desk job. But absolutely, if I don't feel well, this butt is staying home! Bendy straws..lol my hubby calls them sick straws, I will get them for sure!

I understand how you feel as I told very few at work. I work with a very young team and thought that they would judge my decision. I am very excitedly for you. Be happy with your decision and go for it!

My team is pretty young too....sometimes it's just easier to keeps things close to you and not say anything. It's hard for me to that because I have a tendancy to just blurt and let everyone know my business. This site is good because I can talk and vent and everyone is so supportive.

What to tell work- 68 days to pre-surgery

User Avatar

After thinking about my decision to tell work that I was on a girly shopping trip for my TT excuse, I realized that this may not be the best idea. What if I still wasn't feeling up to snuff on the 12th day post-op? (This would be when I am due back to work after surgery) What if, god forbid, I have complications? Reading the RS girls reviews, this is certainly not unheard of.... Soooo....I talked it over with my husband and we figured the best thing would be stating that I am having a hernia repair. It is, after all, sort of the truth, as my surgery will also entail MR along with the lipo, etc. I feel alot better about this, so then I will be giving myself ample recovery time.
This Tuesday, coming up, is my 2nd consultation with the PS. I have a list of questions for him and will make sure that he is aware of the spots that I really want him to address, like get rid of the rolls! I want my tummy to be flat when I am sitting and not have my jeans feel tight across my belly. Ohhhh, I can't wait to be on the flat side!!!

That's what I told my employer - hernia repair. Don't forget, most employers require a 30 day notice for a scheduled surgery if you're going to request FMLA. The FMLA approval will keep you safe in your position, even if you do have complications and need additional time. In addition to me filling out paperwork to request FMLA, I was sent a form called 'Certification of Serious Health Conditions' to be filled out by the physician's office before they could send my approval letter. It doesn't list anywhere on the form exactly what I'm having done, but where the doctor signs it there is a blank that asks 'Type of Practice' and they listed reconstructive/cosmetic - which is still believable for hernia repair. Best wishes - it will be here before you know it! I'm 2 weeks from today!!

Luckily my boss is very supportive. She knew that I was having some sort of procedure that required 4 weeks off, but was then VERY supportive when I told her what I actually was having done. It is very hard for me not to be on the up and up and bottom line: if you are valuable to the company you will be okay.

My boss is very supportive as well. We don't have that FMLA approval requirement in Canada and thankfully, I have no worries about my job.

I am telling work that I am having major surgery, they don't need to know what for. I've told them I will be off work completely for one to two weeks and working from home for another one to two weeks after that.

Also, FMLA is not applicable for elective/cosmetic surgery :-(

What is FMLA? We don't have that here in Canada.

Family medical leave act. Time off for illness of yourself or family member, typically taken after a birth, but any illness qualifies: EXCEPT cosmetic surgery. In most places you don't get paid but its 12 weeks and you can't get fired.

That is what I am telling my Co-workers if they ask. I have to return 12 days post op too.

I didn't even think about FMLA...I am using all my vacation days. I wished I would of did that for the "just in case"

65 Days Until TT

Back from holidays, after 3 weeks away, I am afraid of the scale. That's ok, I am starting my workouts again this morning, back to work on Tuesday. I will have 20 min on the bowflex tread-climber and then another 20 - 25 min on the regular bowflex doing resistance training every morning. I would like to get my body conditioned and strong for the surgery as I know that will this will be the best thing for me prior to surgery. I will follow a low-carb diet as well. That won't be too tough, as this is pretty much how I eat already, I just need to watch the carb intake a little more closely than I have been, especially, in this last month in Mexico! So excited. Last April, I had a BR, I posted the picture of how my breasts look now, 10 months pre-op. I don't have any pics of them post-op, but I am thrilled with the BR results that I got and I am using the same surgeon again. These 65 days will fly by!
