When Trust Turns Into Trauma
In April, it will be one year since the surgical procedure performed on me by Dr. Hernández Alfaro, and during this time my physical and emotional well?being has deteriorated profoundly. What was supposed to be a corrective intervention — a mentoplasty and a rhinoplasty to address facial asymmetry — has instead left me with new deformities and functional problems that I did not have before. I trusted him completely. I believed in his expertise, his confidence, and his reassurances.
Before the surgery, I tried to understand the details of the procedure, but the answers I received were always vague and overly reassuring: “Don’t worry, everything will be fine.” That attitude made me lower my guard. I signed the informed consent documents without questioning anything, convinced that I was in safe hands and that the surgery would be performed with the highest standards of care.
The outcome was devastating. My chin became elongated and disproportionate, disrupting the harmony of my face. My nose, which he had assured me would be centered, ended up misaligned — and since the operation, my breathing has become noticeably worse than before. These changes affect not only my appearance, but also my daily life, my confidence, and my ability to feel like myself.
For an entire year, I tried to express my distress to him — the anxiety, the sadness, the feeling that something had gone terribly wrong. But he dismissed my concerns, insisting that the problem was my “inadequate perception.” Instead of support, I was met with coldness and distance. In our last consultation, he told me there was nothing he could do for me and essentially left me on my own. He refused to refund the cost of the surgery and even told me that I could file a complaint if I wished, adding that he was not worried because his insurance would cover his surgical mistakes. Hearing that left me completely unprotected and emotionally shattered.
I am now seeking an objective evaluation because I need clarity, truth, and a path forward after a year of suffering that I never expected to endure.
