My lower jaw recovery diary (ortoghnatic surgery combined with genioplasty)

Jaw surgeries can be messy, which is why I will be sharing my recovery journey. I had the surgery april 12th so I'm 1.5 months post op and am so happy with the results!!! Below you
can see me right before the surgery, during the recovery and the last two pics are finally after! I've had a history of underbite and wore braces for over 10 Years!!! My jaw started shifting towards left so I had to go with the surgery!!Day 1 - April 12th: we came to the hospital at 7 and they did my IV and stuff. I had to take all of my clothes off, including lingerie which made me kinda uncomfy. They gave me these compression socks which I’m still wearing and they are super tight. They took me to the surgery room and put me to sleep, I felt like crying but they gave me laughing gas so I’d feel more relaxed. Then the last thing I remember is “40 mg this 50mg this it’s gonna take long anyway” and I don’t remember the rest.” When I woke up, they took me to my roo m but my throat was hurting really bad, it still does. I felt like there was endless saliva in my throat and I couldn’t spit either bc of my lower lip.my lower lip swell a lot more than the rest of my face. I mean they’d said the swellings would go down in 2-3 months but yea. My upper lip was kinda swollen too and it looks lifted right now. like I have bunny teeth which I like. My nose looks the same but maybe kinda swollen . Like idk. There’s endless saliva in my throat and it’s my teeth that hurt more. They put my wisdom teeth in a box for me to keep it. The dr came to my room after and asked me how I was doing. He said it went very well and that they could make the changes they wanted. My chin was more curvy but he said I wouldn’t be able to tell that now as it’s swollen. They said they’d wash my stitches tomorrow so we’ll see. I threw up twice. My dentist visited me too. They said for now I don’t need any rubber bands as my muscles weren’t pulling my jaw in the opposite direction. It still feels weird though.April 13th: Swellings got a little worse but I it’s easier to swallow. Still can’t feel my lower lip which makes it way harder to eat because the food and drinks spill all over. They washed my mouth and stitches, did my X-Ray and said it was looking good. I’m leaving the hospital. Sooo looking forward to feel my lips again. They said most the swellings would go down within two weeks but it might take months for me to completely feel my lips. I keep sleeping and they give me serums etc. my throat feels super swollen and hurts a lot… it still sounds muffly to talk. They put rubber bands in my mouth so I couldn’t even drink water without it spilling all over my chin… April 14th: I woke up super hot at 6 am to drink that white nasty ass soup which I could only drink a couple spoons of. Can’t breathe through one my my nostrils. My throat’s hurting so much I feel like the swellings got worse. They gave me a couple shots in my IV. April15th: woke up at 7 am to go to the hospital for that laser thing. The swellings got a little worse and I felt so ugly today. I feel like lasers worked a little but idk. I’m always hungry but at the same time I don’t know what to eat or crave. I feel like a baby. I’ve been scrolling on tiktok pretty much all day but that’s about it. I just can’t wait till I can actually enjoy my side profile and stuff. I do that mouthwash and try to keep it clean. I have an appointment on mondayApril16th: went to bed at almost 2 am last night after watching titanic and then woke up at 11 today to take my antibiotics. It’s like sometimes I can feel my chin like that tingly feeling but I’m not sure. It’s my 4th day post-op and I’m ready for this to be over. My face looks like [RS bleep] Steve in Minecraft and I miss enjoying food. The swellings didn’t get worse but I can’t see a major change either. My jaw hurts even when I try to use the injector! It aggravated me so much today!! Can’t wai to hit the first week mark! April17th: the injector really aggravates me like it’s hard to get food in and it’s like torture but other than that, I don’t feel much different unless I try to eat which makes me feel shitty. I’ve been in my room all day scrolling on tiktok and my jaw kinda hurts and makes this weird noise like under my ears I sometimes can’t help smiling which hurts my upper lip because of the screws but yea. I feel like it’s getting better I’ll be fine. Seeing my dentist on Tuesday. April18th: I woke up at 6am to go to the hospital for my laser. I couldn’t sleep all night because of my damn throat like it’s itching and hurting. Took me forever to get comfortable too. They did my laser at the hospital and checked the stitches. They said not looks fine so far. I kinda want to try to change my Invisalign and rubber bands but I’m scared. I’ve been craving a [RS bleep] ton of stuff and I just can’t wait to go back to normal again.April19th: today marks the first week post surgery. I got a grande Frappuccino and couldn’t even suck on the whipped cream like I wanted to without spilling it. So I used my big injector to enjoy it. And then I went to my ortho appointment and they said my Invisalign wasn’t fitting my mouth so I’m just gonna wear the top ones till I get new ones. Then they said I could start eating soft foods and even brush my teeth with a tiny brush. We got me a baby toothbrush and I tried eating pasta so that’s a huge improvement! Swellings are getting better too!April20th: I had scrambled eggs and orange juice for breakfast. I was craving chocolate too so also made mini pancakes drizzled with melted hot chocolate and caramel along with crushed almonds. I feel like the swellings are also getting better sooo I don’t know lol at this point it doesn’t bother me as much because at least I don’t have to eat baby food.April21st: went to my laser appointment and had some oats today. I still get it all over my lips but it’s getting better. Stayed on the phone with bear all night and I was just so tired this morning. The swellings are going down. No pain, just the screws irritate me a little.April22nd: Today marks the 10th day of my surgery and it still feels like yesterday. I tried closing my mouth and it worked! Brushed my lips to smoothen them and it worked. My jaw and swellings are getting better! April23rd: I could close my mouth and talk like normal when I removed my rubber bands. I’m getting better. Still swollen tho.April24th: no news is good news right! Lol I feel like my speaking and mobility is getting better like I can actually gargle and stuff April 25th: I woke up with a fever today. My face was super red like I thought I had Covid. Then we went to the hospital and they removed my stitches, washed my mouth and did my laser. They said the right side of my jaw was kinda infected so they gave me antibiotics and stuff. I’m so tired my head’s hurting! They gonna check it out on either Wednesday or Thursday. I still have the screws tho. Most of the swelling gone down and my chin looks like an angel’s April26th: today marks the second week of my surgery. I feel like I’m slowly going back to normal and swellings are going down too. Although I still don’t have much mobility in my lips. I got scabies today btw… I will update when I get rid of it. April 27: Went to the doctor to get laser treatment done and my dr checked on my infection he said it was looking fine. So far I’ve been feeling good. The tip of my chin looks more defined now I can’t believe this it was so worth it!April28th: I feel like I started chewing again but I don’t know. My swellings and infection are getting better.
