I am so happy that I discovered this website. Like many people on here, I will soon be getting surgery on my breast. This is my first time getting anything major done to my body and I have to admit it's kinda nerve wrecking. I suffer with something called fibroid(tumors) that have magically appeared at the age of 11. I have a huge one in my left breast, the size of a mini speaker (Dr. mentioned) and a really small one in my right breast that's maybe the size of an small plum. My fibroid's are not cancerous at all but they do bother me. The left one is very noticeable and often swells during my cycle. It's also heavy due to the size of the fibroid. This problem has made me feel very insecure in my relationship sexually but thank god I have a very understanding and patient boyfriend that has supported me and made me feel whole. I'm grateful this didn't turn out to be breast cancer and I know many woman are going through much worse but I'm grateful and my heart goes out to everyone who is suffering with breast cancer. In less than 4 days I will be getting my surgery, I'm nervous and excited at the same time.

My consult date was on 4/30/13 with Dr. Clayman around noon. I arrived at the office and filled out a new patient packet and was then directed to a small waiting room. Once the doctor entered the room I explained my situation and told him what I wanted done. He then sat with me and showed me pictures of different surgeries he performed on other people to give me some insight of his work. He explained the procedures I would have to undergo and the before and after process to get me started. I then set my surgery date and was handed the guidelines before surgery: No aspirin and smoking two weeks before and after surgery, if pain medication was needed I could take acetaminophen/tylenol. The day of surgery, I should wear something loose and easy to put back on ( sweats & jackets) and a sports bra.
To limit arm movement for at least 48 hours and to have a light diet post of the surgery, these being the most important post operative instructions.

To get myself ready for my important day I did some cleaning and organizing so I wouldn't have to deal with anything the day of or after. I went to Wal Mart and brought three new sports bras, Ice packs, band aids, gauze, tape, Dramamine (for nausea), and first aid antibiotic ointment. I also brought some light foods such as soups, veggies and juices.
I'm very excited for this new chapter in my life, I don't even remember how real breast feel anymore:speaking of mines because the tumor has taken up half of it so I'm excited to see how this goes. I haven't taken any pictures of my breast yet but I will have some posted tomorrow with a new update of how my blood work goes also.
