4 Weeks Post Septo/rhino & Sinus Surgery - Ireland, IN

I had septo/rhino & sinus surgery 4 weeks ago. I was initially referred to Mr Shandilya following ongoing sinus problems. During that consultation I raised subject of the appearance of my nose. Mr Shandilya was extremely diplomatic and advised what could realistically be achieved. I had a further consultation and then booked surgery. During the waiting period between consultations and surgery I was in contact on numerous occasions with Mr Shandilya and his staff who were extremely helpful and patient. I was very nervous on the day of the surgery but Mr Shandilya came to speak to me prior to the surgery which was reassuring.  I was pleasantly surprised when I woke following surgery, I had no major pain and it just felt like I had a bad sinus infection (which I was used to!) Again, Mr Shandilya came to speak to me, reassure me and let me know how the surgery went. The following morning I had the packing removed from my nose. I could not believe how easy this was! This was the main thing people spoke about when they told me about their sinus surgery and my head had been filled with horror stories! I was allowed home at lunchtime the day after surgery. I have two young children and was concerned my appearance would frighten them but I had no bruising and very little visible swelling so they found the splint more amusing than anything! During the first week of rest, I found the splint/bandages annoying but had no major pain, some days I forgot to take painkillers! A week after surgery I had the splint removed. Again, I was nervous (yes there is a pattern here!) but pleasantly surprised as it was not painful. Mr Shandilya advised me not to look in the mirror immediately but instead took pictures and compared them with my before pictures. Even though my nose was extremely swollen, I could see an immediate improvement. I think If I had looked in the mirror first I would have just seen a swollen nose and it might have been disappointing. I think taking the pictures was a great way of showing me the changes. Mr Shandilya has advised me to be patient, that it will take months to see the final result. In my opinion, this is actually a good thing as the changes will be gradual. I think if I had left work looking one way and gone back looking another way I would have been concerned about peoples reactions but this way my appearance will change over time. Even though my nose is still swollen, I personally notice a lot of changes. Everytime I look at my side profile and see the improvement to my nasal tip, I smile to myself :). I am so excited to see the final result!My advise to anyone who is thinking of having surgery is to only listen to their consultant or former patients of their consultant as anyone else's experience is irrelevant. In relation to deciding on having the procedure done, I would advise that it is something you have thought long and hard about and are prepared for the change. For myself, this is something I have wanted to do for many years but I am actually glad I waited as I have the maturity to realise that instead of changing my whole face completely, I am improving what I have.
