Dr. Edward Bednar refused, to help me...so...my husband and I are left wondering,... now what? Why are these two physicians dismissing themselves of the responsibility to deliver a service to a woman whose face has been damaged? xx

I am sorry to learn you're going through this; however, no one should ever select any physician who is not a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon for any cosmetic procedure. Even if you're going for fillers, you should choose a Certified Dermatologist at the very least. No one would select a dentist to conduct a heart bypass. They are specialists in their chosen field for a reason, and even the best in their field will tell you that they have experienced complications at one time or another. The important thing for you to do, is to stop going for a quick fix and let a Qualified Plastic Surgeon (maybe even a Maxillo-Facial specialist) evaluate you and your medical records. Don't compound the problem before a specialist can ascertain the best course of action for a repair. Study or find a recommendation for who is the best when it comes to Cheek Implants. Then book your consultations and decide your next step based on their advice, evidence of their past patients/success and surgeon reviews. I am based in the UK, but I have read about a Surgeon based in Virginia whose name escapes me right now, but it's something like Niamtu? He appears - from what I have read and viewed to be very skilled where facial implants are concerned. I am sure you will eventually get this resolved, but be patient. Don't throw good money after bad due to impatience to get it right. Slow down, find the right specialists, have your consultations and then move forward.

I know it's hard, but you'll get the result you were aiming for in the end.

Best of luck!

Hi, I just had a Face Lift with a doctor in Evans, Georgia Dr Chen. He was one of the pioneers who help develop cheek implants. Also He is a reconstructive surgeon. He is kind hearted and very honest. I don’t know if there’s pics of reconstructive photos of cheek issues but look how he’s helped others with botched nose surgeries. I would trust him completely for any type of reconstructive facial issues. You can private message me and I would be glad to speak with you further if you would like more info. He has been on the show the doctors. Watch the video on his website. He did cheek implants for the lady in the video. Hope this could help you out. Your not too far from Georgia. Evans is near Augusta.

Hi, I have had a horrible experience with an infected medpor check implant removal. However I had the implants in for 10 years; the longer the implants are in, the harder to fix the issues of cheek hollowness left behind. Have you considered removing them and letting that heal and then decide your next option? I agree it's VERY hard when one is not happy with their face, but remember you want to have a long term positive outcome and not a short fix. I have heard a lot of horror stories about fat transfers to the face. I will never do it after this disaster with cheek implants. Mine were in 10 years and now ( after removal) it's almost impossible to get my face back to normal. I wish you the best in your decision. I am at a loss on how to make my face normal again, and my PS is ALWAYS ambiguous about what I need to do, just wait just wait, be patient be patient ... ARGH, it is so infuriating to have these type of conversations that do not give me an end result; however the conversations about receiving the cheek implants was EASY and everything is gonna look great!!! :(

I would select a different surgeon for inserting cheek implants.

Now that all the swelling has subsided in my right cheek, I can easily surmise that it is placed higher than the left implant; thus, the right cheek is fuller and more prominent. I will not be returning to this surgeon again, unless I have an emergency. I am especially disappointed in the final results and am having a fat transfer to my cheeks and under eye area, a procedure that is often offered when one undergoes cheek implant surgery. I hope my new surgeon, who is strictly a plastic/cosmetic specialist, can help even out my cheeks and add more volume.

My new surgeon (see review on Dr. Edward Bednar) had set a date to address the asymmetry with fat grafting on June 5th. He had done a previous fat grafting and had underfilled. Yesterday, he backed out of the procedure...dismissed me. I truly don't understand and spent the majority of the week in tears because, as my husband agrees, these "professional" are not backing their services with professionalism. My husband called the review board and the "Better Business Bureau" to file complaints about the lack of professionalism here. As he stated, "someone pays you to do correctly do something, then you follow through. period." You don't just absolve yourself of all responsibility.

I had to return for further surgery, yet again. :-(

One of the screws came loose within a few months, so Dr. had to tighten. As my husband duly noted: the screw shouldn't work itself loose within such a short amount of time. Moreover, I now have to have a fat transfer procedure done to add more volume to the apples of my cheeks and my under-eye hollows, which another surgeon stated should have been initially addressed with the properly-sized cheek implant design (not malar, but rather a combined submalar/malar design). I am overall very disappointed (not with the cheek implants themselves) but with the fact that I had to undergo THREE surgeries versus ONE and still have the implants augmented with fat grafting additional costs. ) Sadly, as friendly of an oral surgeon as Dr. Haigney seems to be, how unfortunate that he didn't seem to be well-acquainted with the artistry and placement of cheek implants.

May I ask why you chose an oral surgeon instead of a plastic surgeon to do cheek implants?

See my reply above. He has received extensive education and training in plastic surgery.

I’m puzzled why you choose an oral surgeon in the first place.

Another surgeon recommended him; the oral surgeon is also trained in facial plastic surgery--he has reconstructed people's faces, so I assumed he had knowledge of facial aesthetics.

My husband did research on the guy and thought he was well-reviewed. Also, another surgeon, (who ended up botching my face) recommended him. Haigney is trained as a PS (supposedly.)
