At age 47, my previously full and high cheekbones had experienced serious deflation from aging and were in need of restoration. After some research in our area, my husband and I selected Dr. Haigney. On the morning of July 9th, I had Conform Malar Implants placed. The surgery went well, yet my husband and I both immediately noticed that the left side of my face was disproportionate to the right but believed it to be the result of natural swelling. Nine days later, the right side (which had become bruised) had recovered nicely without much discomfort; however, the left side continued to swell and became extremely painful. Since my surgeon was on vacation, I followed up with his colleague, who promptly confirmed what my husband and I had suspected: a possible hematoma. Now I am aware that cosmetic surgery has complications. The factor that upset both my husband and I was the fact my surgeon had my follow up with an oral surgeon who had NO training whatsoever in cosmetic procedures. He gave me the number of another surgeon. Here I sit tonight with a huge protuberance in my left cheek and a throbbing pain in my cheekbone and jaw. My question is: Why would a surgeon have his cosmetic surgery patient receive a follow-up with a doctor who knows NOTHING about the procedure???? My husband (who is a nurse) has explained to me that a hematoma can be drained to promote healing, yet the follow-up doctor refused to drain (as he did not feel comfortable touching my face without training.) Updated on 30 Jul 2018: During an appointment with on "on-call" follow-up doctor (who was actually trained in facial surgery this time,) the surgeon drained 2 mm of blood from my swollen left cheek. Upon follow-up with Dr. Haigney, my right cheek was in the process of properly healing, while the left cheek remains disproportionally swollen and sore (this is day 21!) Dr. Haigney attempted to aspirate the cheek, yet nothing emerged. His advice to me is to wait and see how it heals. As of today I am contacting to notify him of the continued pressure, pain, and (nearly comical) swelling. I will update. Updated on 6 Aug 2018: Much of the swelling in my cheeks has subsided at this point (nearly a month post-operative,) yet my husband and I both can see a marked difference in the positioning of the left versus the right side. The latter (right) looks wonderful---natural and well-contoured; the left side is jutting out at an odd angle (my husband believes this is due to poor placement.) I have a follow-up tomorrow and will inquire. Updated on 9 Aug 2018: Dr. Haigney proved very gracious in response to the asymmetry present on the left side of my face; he is removing and replacing the implant in approximately two weeks. The implant on the right has nicely restored cheek contouring that had flattened from fat atrophy associated with the aging process. Updated on 27 Aug 2018: I am still quite swollen and somewhat bruised at this point, yet, I can detect a marked improvement in symmetry. I will update within the next few weeks as I heal and the result becomes more apparent. Updated on 31 Aug 2018: Although still somewhat puffy on my left side, I can see that the placement is much more symmetrical, and I haven't had any complications since the replacement. Dr Haigney did a fine job with the correction, and I am beginning to really see the difference in how well the contours of my cheeks have been restored to a previously youthful position. I may need some filler or fat in the nasolabial folds to soften the lines later (and as my face experiences further fat atrophy from aging.) I am waiting for the implants to settle. If anyone is considering implants to restore age-related volume loss, I would highly recommend. Note: My husband and I were both initially startled at the difference volume restoration has on the midface region. I look so much younger and, initially neither my husband nor I accustomed to seeing my face with actual full cheeks once again! I would rate this decision as "Worth it." Updated on 14 Nov 2018: I can't believe my cheeks have been (nearly) restored to the volume I had 20 years ago! I still have some fine wrinkling underneath my eyes, as well as some evident lines between my nose and the corner of my mouth, both of which will have to be addressed at a later date. Overall, I am quite pleased with the final rejuvenation. Updated on 4 Apr 2019: One of the screws came loose within a few months, so Dr. had to tighten. As my husband duly noted: the screw shouldn't work itself loose within such a short amount of time. Moreover, I now have to have a fat transfer procedure done to add more volume to the apples of my cheeks and my under-eye hollows, which another surgeon stated should have been initially addressed with the properly-sized cheek implant design (not malar, but rather a combined submalar/malar design). I am overall very disappointed (not with the cheek implants themselves) but with the fact that I had to undergo THREE surgeries versus ONE and still have the implants augmented with fat grafting additional costs. ) Sadly, as friendly of an oral surgeon as Dr. Haigney seems to be, how unfortunate that he didn't seem to be well-acquainted with the artistry and placement of cheek implants. Updated on 1 May 2019: Now that all the swelling has subsided in my right cheek, I can easily surmise that it is placed higher than the left implant; thus, the right cheek is fuller and more prominent. I will not be returning to this surgeon again, unless I have an emergency. I am especially disappointed in the final results and am having a fat transfer to my cheeks and under eye area, a procedure that is often offered when one undergoes cheek implant surgery. I hope my new surgeon, who is strictly a plastic/cosmetic specialist, can help even out my cheeks and add more volume. Updated on 3 Jun 2019: Dr. Edward Bednar refused, to help me...so...my husband and I are left wondering,... now what? Why are these two physicians dismissing themselves of the responsibility to deliver a service to a woman whose face has been damaged? xx
He extracted 3 wisdom teeth within less than 2 minutes. He was amazing and after six days all pain we disappeared. I defiantly going to recommend him to family and friends. Thank you Dr. Raymond Haigney
