Let me start off with the CONS: SEVERE dry skin,...

Let me start off with the CONS: SEVERE dry skin, nose bleeds, HAIR LOSS and Muscle Aches. For the dry skin I used CeraVe and lips Aquaphor chapstick (the only thing that would work for my lips) I also kept one in arms reach. Wherever I was I could always just grab one... car, kitchen drawer, bathroom, nightstand, office desk drawer, work bag... You get the point. HAIR LOSS: I noticed the hair around month 3, it wasn't patches or clots, more thinning than anything. When I brushed my hair in the shower you could tell there was more hair in the brush than usual....a lot more. Muscle Aches: OMG, besides the hair loss, this was the absolute worse!!!! My muscles ached so badly. It felt as if I had played football with the New England Patriots. Sore..Sore..Sore. 24/7- Forget about running. I have not ran in 6 months. I look forward to getting off of this drug and back to my normal life (whatever that is)

The Pros: It gave me absolutely flawless skin. Silky smooth so far. I'm hoping I don't fall into that category of needing to repeat this drug. As my doctor told me, "if you can last the 6 months, it'll be worth it!" and boy was she right.

By the way, I was on 90mg a day for the first month - 105mg for month 2-5 and now for my last month back to 90mg a day. She then told me to follow up with Differin topical OTC gel.

PS. I've also heard that the hair loss was because I was on such a high dosage of Accutane. I was not on a high dose because my acne was bad, but because it was reoccurring since the age of 25. I am now 35 and because of my weight. When I started I weighed 177lbs, now at 165lbs.

Nicest, most patient dermatologist. She's also very pretty :-) Never waited more than 5 minutes on my office visits.
