First I have to say that I've been addicted to this site for the past few months. All your stories and advice help me feel like I'm not alone in this. I have family that's very supportive but it's so nice when someone else knows EXACTLY what your going thru. I developed large breasts between 6th and 7th grade. They just popped up over the summer and I did everything I could to cover them up. I was 5'0 at the time and weighed about 90lbs and I had a d cup breast. Not a good look on me. So fast forward to present day and I have gained a little height and a lot of weight lol and unfortunately my breasts are a 40H/I. It's depressing to get dressed because I'm upset at how heavy I am and how gigantic my breasts are :-( But I finally decided it was time to do something so I'm scheduled to have a breast reduction on June 9th. I'm insanely excited!!! I have no clue what size will look good on me but whatever size I end up I'll be happy as long as my back, neck and shoulder pain are gone. I hunch over not only to concave my breasts but also because it's uncomfortable to stand up straight. But I want to be able to buy the bras other girls buy and workout without feeling so embarrassed. I'll post more pics as my pre-op and surgery get closer. Thanks so much for all the information you ladies put on this site for pre and post op care!

Hun, if I did not know better, I would have said your photos were of me! I just had my surgery on 4/13 and I am overjoyed at the results. Dr ended up taking 5.5lbs off the right breast and 5lbs off the left breast. I went from a 44K cup to a D and for the first time in my life I can walk into any store and buy inexpensive bras. The ones I used to buy pre-op were $100 and up each. Best of luck to you. You will feel like a new person after the surgery.

Deidre, were you able to get insurance to pay for your surgery? I too have always had large breastfeed before I put on a significant amount of weight. Looking at your pictures my body size is similar to yours. My GP won't even talk about possibly getting me a referral to a plastic surgeon until I get my BMI down. I'm considering financing the procedure if a surgeon deems me a good candidate. Thanks.

hi! I am paying for the surgery myself. I actually work for an insurance agent and I know firsthand the hassle of getting a "cosmetic" procedure approved. I initially thought I needed to lose a bunch of weight before having a reduction but in an odd turn of events my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer last year and her oncologist recommended that all her daughters have mammograms - regardless of age. So I had one done and my breasts were so dense with breast tissue that I had to come back for another mammogram and an ultrasound. Later in the year I saw my plastic surgeon and asked him if I should lose weight before surgery. He said it won't make any difference because I have very little fat in my breasts - just dense tissue. So, even though I am trying to lose a few lbs, my breast size isn't going to budge without surgery. I always recommend my clients to try with the insurance first especially if you have a medically documented history of back pain, physical therapy or other treatments to relieve all the awful symptoms we have. I know having a healthy weight is important but you may want to talk to a PS on your own and let them determine if weight loss is a must before surgery can be performed. They might be able to write a letter to your GP or the insurance company on your behalf. Good luck to you!!

Thanks. I had a BR consultation when I was 21 (I'm 32 now) and I was probably about 60-70lbs lighter. He told me that I also had dense breast tissue and weight loss wouldn't change the size. I was denied then by insurance. They wanted me to lose 20 lbs but I really feel it was because I was months away from aging out of my parents insurance. I'm going to start the process again and interview some surgeons. Thanks for sharing your story.

Deidre, please don't assume that your insurance will not cover your reduction. From the date of the first consultation with my PS to the date of actual surgery was 14 days and there was not a single difficulty with the insurance paying 100%. As in my previous comment, your breast size and body shape is almost a carbon copy of mine. Regardless of the life changing experience this op is and that you are more than willing to pay for it yourself, It's a lot of money to come up with out of pocket, and quite possibly not necessary if your insurance will cover the surgery. Best of luck to you!

so I'm sitting here thinking about my pre-op appointment which is one week away and my surgery which is 27 days away and I'm freaking out!!! I'm not gonna be able to sleep the entire month of May lol. Honestly I'm just ready for this to happen and I can't wait to be post op and take that deep breath and know that it's done. In the meantime I bought some new "after" bras. One was $8 and the other were 2 for $11!!! I can't imagine that these tiny cups will fit me but I guess we'll see. I'm posting some pics of my new bras...
