21 Years Old, Mild and Medically Resistant Acne - Houston, TX

Hey Guys! So I am coming up on my first full month...

Hey Guys! So I am coming up on my first full month on Accutane and thought I would start a review to keep track of my progress. As a user of Accutane with mild acne, I often feel like many people's stories are much different than mine, so I wanted to start this review for anyone with similar skin as mine. After 2 years of trying to find a more permanent solution for my problematic skin, I was finally recommended Accutane by the 3rd dermatologist I visited over this time period. So a little about me: I am a 21 year old student (currently taking a semester off) who is 5'6" and weighs 118 lbs. I have oily skin and break out for about 3 weeks of every month... fun stuff. I have tried 3 antibiotics including Bactrim (favorite), mino and doxycycline, and easily 5+ topicals, my favorite being Epiduo forte. A month prior to starting Absorbica 40 mg, I have been taking Bactrim and used Epiduo forte for the 3 weeks leading up. At about 2-3 weeks into Accutane, I had an initial breakout that lasted a couple week and was pretty manageable; nothing heavily cystic, but lots of purging happening. These are my before photos:
UPDATED FROM TaneBabe

Day 22
Hey there! So I posted my review today, but I'm actually on day 21 of my accutane journey and my skin has changed a lot so I figured I would post some updated pictures. Overall, my skin produces almost no oil and my scalp is following along the same path! I have yet to have any dry body skin issues, but I moisturize religiously after showering. Also I use a zinc dandruff shampoo and haven't had any scalp issues so far. My skin is doing great! I still get spots, but not really pimples. They're more like little inflamed blackheads or pores. I still spot treat with a tiny bit of a leftover Epiduo forte prescription and also I use diaper cream (40% zinc) on a popped pimple (this stuff is AMAZING at reducing redness and healing). My derm gave me some prednisone for the initial breakout which allowed most of my face to purge smoothly, despite a few setbacks. Here is my face in the sun yesterday, I have about 3 active "purging" spots but everything is healing nicely. I am wearing spot treatment on one of my spots FYI. Other than that I would say there is definitely progress!

I appreciate your feedback but this is a decision I have made based on my own personal choices and experiences. I am not a huge fan of unsolicited advice haha but thanks anyway!

Hi! My skin is very similar to yours. I've been having a recent breakout of cystic acne. I've tried everything else and am getting ready to start Accutane in a month. I'm really excited someone like you is going through a similar process and I'll be following your page for updates :)

Hey there!! I'm glad to hear some one in my similar situation. I am going to my one-month appointment tomorrow and I'm anxious to be upping my dosage! The first month is just your body getting adjusted to the drug but my initial break out was totally manageable and nothing cystic occurred (surprisingly!). I'm sure you'll do great and I'm always here if you need advice or just want to talk!!

I use the tea tree oil but I've heard about nappy cream too! I've not heard of that make up but I'll take a look online thank you! It's awkward to cover them when they are flaky! I may go up to 50mg tomorrow and see how I go!
That make up have saved my life on several occasions. I don't wear foundation because of my paranoia with clogging my pores, so all I do is use the dermablend on my red spots and let the rest of my blotchy face shine through haha. Luckily sun damage camouflages some of my post acne marks! Do you use a foundation, and do you like it? I have such a hard time finding a good one.
