After years of having very large breasts (38/40 DDD by the time I was finished having 2 babies), I went to see Dr. Maclin based on recommendations from 2 of my neighbor friends, who went to him for their breast reductions. Why did I wait so long? Dr. Maclin was just wonderful - great bedside manner, and his nurse was great, too. At first, he did not think insurance would cover the surgery because there has to be a certain size/weight ratio, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that my insurance plan did, indeed, cover treatment.
My treatment was performed at the hospital, but I was in more of an outpatient wing, where people either went home same day or just stayed the night. My hospital experience was not great (Mo Bap in St. Louis) - mainly because the night nurse refused to call Dr. Maclin when my pain meds were not working (he had told the staff and me and my husband to call about ANYTHING). He even gave his cel phone number to my husband in case he had any questions during the night. Such a sweetheart.
About 3am, I was in so much pain (I also had a non-cancerous lump removed from my back, so was in worse pain than most straight breast reduction patients, as I had pain radiating from my front and back!), I told the nurse that I was going to suffocate myself with my pillow if she did not call Dr. Maclin about a change of pain meds, so she finally did, he approved a change, and I, finally, was able to rest for a few hours.
Dr. Maclin came back in on his morning rounds and was just furious about what happened with the nurse. I truly believed him when he said "call about anything". I had several follow-up visits at his office, mainly because my back wasn't healing well (back cavity kept filling with liquid and he'd have to drain it), and it had nothing to do with my breast reduction, but both he and his nurse were a pleasure to work with.
Dr. Maclin gets an A+ in my book, as does the whole breast reduction surgery - again, why did I wait so long? My tops look better on me, it's easier to shop for clothes that fit, and I no longer feel like my boobs are the first thing everyone looks at when I walk in the room!
