Highly Recommend Chris Porter, Plastic Surgeon for Breast Reduction Surgery

WORTH IT

I chose Chris having reviewed feedback online and feedback from previous patients. I was also subsequently told by another plastic surgeon that he is highly regarded in the profession. Chris is incredibly professional and knowledgeable and from what I can tell a perfectionist. The nurses at the hospital all said he was one of their favourites too! My breast reduction exceeded my expectations (his incision lines and the scarring is minimal relative to other reductions I have seen). I went from a 14F to a 14B/C. I literally have a new lease on life.

It's perhaps worth noting though that although I met health insurance requirements ie I had close to 1kg removed, it wasn't as drastic as some other reductions that may require more time and may have different results. Some friends have said the removal of the drains was the worst part, whereas for me that was the easiest! My next comments in no way reflect Chris or his skills. I found the payment process very painful - three separate payments (surgeon, anesthetist, hospital) plus the information provided by my health insurer and the hospital was contradictory, which could have impacted on my operation going ahead. Luckily I picked this up the day before my operation.

Don't underestimate your recovery time. Chris makes this point too but I didn't listen that well. Not only are you sore but the GA may mess with you. Although I did not think it at the time I was not fully compos mentis for a few weeks - I went back to work from home, from week 2 and can't recall several emails or conversations! Spend as much time as you can with Chris on your first visit too. I think I was too hasty (I was desperate to have a reduction) and the next time I saw him was 10 mins before going under the knife (4 months later!) so it's good to get to know him some more during your consultation process.

One last comment and this is just in my opinion, in hindsight and if I could have afforded it I would have liked at least 2 more days in the hospital. The first night I didn't sleep due to pain, nurse visits, and the coming off the GA, and I left feeling like a zombie. I struggled at home (3-year-old and working husband) and although I had extra help at home, I felt a bit overwhelmed and vulnerable (you are not strapped up as you see on the TV!). Note the cost of just 1 night in hospital is nearly the same cost as the surgeon's fee so it surprisingly makes up a big chunk of the cost. Overall, I am thrilled with my new breasts and would recommend Chris to anyone thinking about the same procedure.
