First off I never write reviews infact I specifically created an account just to write this review. I thought I owe it to Dr Burt due to my positive experience and it's my way of saying thank you to him for his work. The other main reason is there's not much reviews for his work so hoping this will help those who are considering eyelid surgery that live near the Hawthorn area.
Initially I wasn't intending on getting the actual surgery done as I've never had anything done before not even botox. I was quiet apprehensive (due to reading horror stories too much skin taken and they can't shut their eyes, uneven lids, unnatural looking etc). In my opinion my eyelids were not too bad to the point to take those risks. My intention was to go for to consultations to get more details and 5 years down the track once when my eyelids are really bad I'll go to get it done.
I booked in for 3 different places and Dr Burt was my first consultation. I asked so many questions Dr Burt seem so geniune, answered all my questions honestly and told me what to expect realistically, explain the procedure and risk involved. He can sense that I wasn't quiet ready and even suggested that it's not something that I necessarily need at the moment as my eyelids are ok for my age (I'm in my late 30's). He recommended for me to go to speak to other surgeons and even advise me on what questions to ask so I can choose wisely for my situation.
Right there and then I knew he was looking out for his patients and not just for him to make money. I booked in for the procedure and not bother with other consultations.
I could be wrong as I only looked into 3 places but out of the 3 options I was considering he was the only one that offers a second follow up procedure if needed free of charge (to cut more skin etc). This was another reason I went with him.
The actual procedure was straight forward. After my eyelids were measured and drawn in. It was numbed down and it took no more than what felt like 10 mins in total for the cutting of the skin I didn't need to get any fat removal. Then came the stitching. The stitches were very well done so I had no bad scarring as they were very neatly stitched in.
In terms of bruising I was ok the first 2 days the 3rd day the colour was blue and yellow by the 5th day I looked like I had eye make up on. Swelling was the worst on the 2nd day I was lucky and didn't have any pain it just felt like a small bruise feeling. Could be the fact that I'm still young and heal quickly I'm not too sure.
A week later stitches are removed and I was provided with vitamin E cream to apply on the scar line.
My eyes look very natural I still look like me but better more refresh and more youthful. His work is subtle in that people would look and think you look good but cannot pinpoint exactly what.
Bottom line is although it can be a simple procedure that makes a huge difference but in the wrong hands it can go very wrong. Please do your research and read up on everyone's experience especially the after care that people receive when things don't go to plan. You have to feel comfortable with your surgeon. I research and focus on his training, experience and statistics on how many eye surgery he has perform etc as he didn't have many actual reviews from real people. I asked what would happen if things go wrong and felt comfortable enough with his answers to go ahead with him.
There's heaps of reputable surgeons who has lots of reviews (but that's because they multi-skilled and peform many different procedures Dr Burt specialise in eyes). Keep in mind ever so often even with the best surgeons something may go wrong and that's when you want someone who would look after you. I've read lots of reviews were the surgeoms not admitting fault, not bring helpful or helping out the patient and treating them badly. Fixing eyelid is more expensive and harder than the actual procedure so choose wisely.
I don't have before and after photos but he has them and I've given him full permission to show at consultation.
I know this review sounds too positive for people to think it's genuine but like I said this review is more towards Dr Burt to show my gratitude and if someone believes it and go to see him for a consultation than that's a bonus.
Consultation are free of charge so to as many as you need and ask as many questions and then decide. Follow your gut feeling and treat reviews as case by case (as everyone's experience is different) and keep their experience in mind but you make your own judgement during your consultation.
Like I've said I've never done a review before so not sure if questions come through do I get notify via email or do I have to physically log in to check? If so I apologise if I take a while to respond to your questions as I am a full time working mum. But I'll try my best to regularly check within the month of after this review to answer.

You are right that there are many reviews for him? What made you go to him despite there aren't many reviews? I thought he charges $200 for consultation?

Hi beautiful sky,
I narrowed down to 3. One being a very well known plastic surgeon even amongst celebrities. He perform many procedures not specialised. He didn't have any reviews on eyelids it was mostly breast augmentations. I choose him due to popularity.
Another is a cosmetic surgeon near my area. He was charging almost half the price. So I choose him due to price value and convenience.
Finally I choose Dr Burt because he was an oculoplastic surgeon. He is more specialised and has performed over thousands of procedures. So I choose him due to statistics/experience and purely for the fact he performs mainly the eye only. I just assumed he would have more skill sets in this area.
Like I said I wasn't intending on getting it done. It was more to get more details and see if it was for me.
I got booked in with him first due to a cancellation appointment. And after seeing him I didn't feel the need to see the other 2.
My apologies you are correct consultation is $200 AUD with a GP referral you get $75 rebate. I actually didn't pay on the day of consultation and arranged to pay on the day as a lump sum which was why I remember it as being free of charge.

Hi Angel050817
Thank you and I really appreciate that you took the time to respond to me. I did not know much about Dr Benjamin Burt because there are not many reviews for him. If I had come across him earlier, it would have been so much better because I have gone ahead to have a lower eye bag removal with another cosmetic surgeon which I believe now I may need more fat to be taken out. But my original surgeon seems very reluctant to do it. He is a very popular surgeon but he doesn't just do eyes. I am exploring the option of Dr Benjamin Burt because he does eyes only and I am hoping he can see the issue I am seeing with my original surgery.
Did you have it done in a hospital or in his clinic? So I assumed the procedure cost you AUD5000, but does that include general anaesthesia or hospital fees?
I am hoping I don't have to spend as much for this revision surgery because I have already spent that much on the first surgery and it did not completely solve the issue I was having :(

Hi beautifulsky,
My apologies for some reason I didn't see this message until today as I have received a question today prompting me to go in here.
I am a year late so I'm not sure if my answer would be of any use to you. But here goes yes it cost me $5,000AUD. I wasn't required to stay overnight so it was a quick day procedure.
Generally speaking I believe fixing issue may cost more. As it involves more skills to undo something. But I could be wrong. All the best hopefully everything turned out well and you're happy with your results.
