Hey everyone...I have been on the forum for almost 2months and I appreciate all who shares their story and open their life to us. As I stated I am a 32 year old single mother of one teen, divorcee, recent nursing college graduate working on a new me.

I have been struggling with my weight on and off for the last 10years or more. I have thought about getting the lab band over the last couple of years but never went through with it and I am glad I didn't. I finally made a decision in January to go through with it but not the lap band, I have decided to go with the Sleeve. Prior to January I was on a weight loss program for over a year which including monthly weigh in, phentermine and B12 shots; it seemed to work in the beginning but then nothing. That worked out in my favor because according to my insurance I needed a 6month recent history before I can even be considered.

Timeline:
01/10/15 decided to start the sleeve journey
01/14/15 education seminar
01/21/15 initial consultation with bariatric weight loss team
01/23/15 PCP for medical necessity
01/27/15 Pulmonary Testing
01/29/15 Psych Clearance
01/30/15 Sleep Study
02/02/15 Gallbladder Ultrasound
02/03/15 Pulmonary Clearance
02/04/15 Cardiology Clearance
02/09/15 ABG test
02/10/15 Bariatric Support Group
02/11/15 GI Clearance
02/19/15 Final Test EGD completed

I was on the ball. Once I make a decision to do something I do whatever to make it happen and I am so tired of carrying this 260lbs around with me. I was also told on my initial appt 01/21/15 that I needed to lose 13pounds prior to surgery and as of 02/25/15 I have lost 11pounds. As of today I am just sitting and waiting for my insurance approval. I hope Maryland Physician Care approve me soon and I can get Sleeved sooner than later. If anyone have that insurance I would like to know if it worked for your surgery and how long was you approval time?

I can't wait for this new chapter in my life.

I don't want to be the bad news and BC of your insurance maybe its different. I live in MD as well but I know how crazy insurance can be. Its great that you have all of those fest and passed. But in my experience unless the EKG/heart feat are within 30 days of surgery they won't use it. I would call your insurance/doctor to ask if your surgery isn't scheduled soon. There is a window. MD ins can stink at times but different hospitals, doctors have different rules and they vary. Did you search under your ins to see if you meet the BMI regulations/ 2 other diagnosis? That's how I found out if my insurance would cover mine. I still have 3 more nutrition classes to do but with my insurance I need 4. Its crazy but it varies by ins carrier. What hospital will you use? My Dr is at University MD. You should be able to Google your Ins and covered bariatric surgeries. Or if you have book with coverage and listed procedures. Age and some procedures vary. Talk Soon. I hope I was a little help.

Hey out there everyone...Hope all is well with my new sleeve friends..Although I was on the ball with getting everything I needed done as far as the pretesting now I am still at a standstill awaiting insurance approval. I am becoming so impatient and I am ready to begin this new life...

On the flip side I had some good news I recently took my nursing board exam for the 2nd time and thank God I made it..I am officially a licensed nurse; which is more the reason I wanna hurry up and get the surgery now. I don't wanna start working as a nurse and have to take time off for the surgery I want to get it done before I jump back in the working force. Once I start back working its no stopping me.

How long does this insurance approval usually takes?

Whoop whoop!!! All this good news in one week I don't know how to take it..First I pass my the nursing boars exam and received my nursing license now I just received a call from my bariatric surgeon office saying that my insurance approved me and my surgery is March 31. I guess when GOD said its your time he meant it..I have been a struggling overweight college mom for quite awhile now and I am really starting to finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. I will starting my new life journey as of April 1st as a new nurse on a mission to be also a more healthy energetic mom.

I am soooooo looking forward to my new beginning....
