Women’s Hairline Transplant...Ask Questions!
I tried every non-surgical option to help with my thinning hair especially around the hairline. The list is extensive: shampoos, vitamins, hairbrushes, minoxidil, PRP injections, and nothing worked. Before the thinning progressed further, I decided to seek out hair restoration options. I had a few consultations. After meeting with Anderson Hair, I realized that there was a salesperson that drove this process at each consultation. I also realized that I would not be comfortable unless I met with the physician. I asked a few questions and received answers. After a biopsy to determine if I was eligible for a graft, I met with Dr. Anderson. He was professional and polite, once again patiently answering my initial questions. His staff gave me instructions to follow prior to the procedure.
The day of the procedure, I listened to an informative video. I knew I was ready to proceed and thought I had asked all that I needed to. The staff was friendly and polite as they realized I was nervous. Dr. Anderson took photos and drew a hairline marker to make sure we were on the same page as to where I wished to see the hairline improve.
I do not recall anything about the procedure as I drifted off to a deep sleep. Dr. Anderson and his staff had worked on me for many hours. I was sent home with detailed day-by-day instructions for after-care. I slept upright (and even have a reclining bed) as instructed. I was prepared for some swelling but unfortunately my whole face swelled up. I used ice packs and called the office for advice. Once again, I was given respect and polite responses. I used the recommended antibiotic ointment on the donor area across the back of my hair. A few things I didn’t ask: how do you brush/comb your hair, when can you wear a hat, how and when can you use a hairdryer on the back of your hair. I followed the instruction of not leaning forward as to be extra careful of the newly implanted follicles. I did not want to damage those newly implanted hairs nor that area. I finally received information that I didn’t need to continue with the recommended baby shampoo. Long, curly hair does not take kindly to baby shampoo. In addition, the ointment made my hair greasy and not able to be brushed. I suggest providing a more detailed instruction sheet for certain female related concerns.
The suture removal was easy and pain-free. Once again, the staff was polite, professional and patient. The swelling took several weeks to finally go away and the donor area has healed nicely. I was told that the hairline could not get sunburn for 4 months. I am not a hat wearer but I am now. Given this, I may have chosen a different time of year for the procedure when I don’t spend as much time outside. I also purchased a Laser Cap after the suture removal. Looking back, it is a bit unclear if the amount of hair that I had on my head may have made me a less-than ideal candidate for the Laser Cap.
After 3 months, I am seeing small follicles, although only a few. The staff prepared me that it would take a minimum of 4 months and up to a year. I am anxiously awaiting to see if my hairline has growth!
