Hair Transplant in Istanbul

So after many years of being unhappy with my hairline and continually thinning on top, I decided to take the plunge and get a hair transplant. I did a lot of research; looking at results of various clinics, reading reviews and taking in to consideration the price, but decided, like many other guys from the UK, to head to Istanbul. So in May 2019 I packed my bags and took a 3 night trip to Turkey. I should say straight up, I had a fantastic experience, the results have been amazing & I would highly recommend where I went. If you want to see my results in detail, follow my insta account.
I had 3500 grafts at the front and crown. They used a method called FUE. If you aren't sure what this is, there is plenty of info on Google or many YouTube videos that explain the difference between FUE and FUT (which I wouldn't recommend)I often get asked about medication - I had been taking both minoxidil and finasteride for about 4 years before and I continue to use these after the transplant to protect my existing hair and will probably continue these in the future. Transplanted hair is permanent, but original hair isn't, so my thought behind this is to keep as much of my original hair. They give some special shampoos and lotions to use after the transplant for about 4 weeks after. I also chose to take a supplement, Biotin (high strength) biotin is great for the hair so will only help. Oh, and I don't suffer side effects with finasteride. I know a small % of men do...I've also had PRP sessions in the UK (this is where they take your blood, spin it to separate the plasma and then inject this in to the scalp) this treatment thickened my hair before the transplant, I had sessions after the transplant as well as I believe this helps to strengthen the Transplanted hair and protect and thicken existing hair) improving results. PRP is not permanent and you do need to continue to have treatments to maintain the effects. It's not essential to have PRP. I chose the clinic u visited after doing a lot of research and looking at their results. They do not use just surgeons, but also highly skilled and experienced technicians. They have about 4-5 of these in the room with you, all doing their part to make the process as quick and efficient as possible. A surgeon is present to supervise and also make the incisions to replant the grafts. The quicker they can extract, sort and implant the follicles the better the survival and success rate. It's a balance between speed and accuracy that makes a transplant successful. I didn't notice any failure in mine so believe I had close to 100% success rate. I'm also very happy with the natural look of my transplant. It's important that the hairs are sorted. Single hair grafts nearer the front, multiple hair grafts further back to give a more natural look. Not all clinics do this and it's important for a natural look. The clinic I visited, like many others in turkey, offer a full package. I had to arrange my own flights, but other than that I was collected at the airport, taken to a 5* crowne plaza hotel and chauffeured around in a luxury limo-van. Truly amazing. It's very competitive in Istanbul, and reviews are very important to them, so expect to be treated very well out there. I love to travel and was keen to see some of Istanbul while I was there. I asked whether they could recommend a tour guide for Istanbul while I was there. They said to leave it with them - I thought they had forgotten however on one of the recovery days a really nice older Turkish gentleman picked me up (in a range rover) and gave me a private chauffeured/walking tour of old Istanbul! They honestly can't do enough for you.. !I get asked if it hurts a lot… really it doesn't - other than the initial injection of anesthetic, which is a little uncomfortable. After that it's all quite relaxed. Worst bit is the amount of time it takes, so can get a bit boring. I found trying sleeping upright for a few days after the procedure worse than the actual procedure.. you also have a strange numb feeling in your head for a long time after. By long, I mean months -but it goes eventually. The question I get asked the most is about the cost. It's probably best to ask clinics about this directly. They are very quick at getting back to you. It's my understanding that cost varies depending on how much you need. I was in May 2019 and prices will have changed. In Istanbul in general you can expect the prices to vary from £1,000 to £5,000. Where I went was a bit more expensive than some others, as they are very popular and results are good - you do get what you pay for… They were about half the price of the UK, for twice as many grafts. Also looking at results compared to UK clinics, I honestly think they are so much better. If you haven't already, follow my insta page @hairfixjourney where you will see lots of progress pictures and find out more about the clinic I visited.
