My Grandfather Still Has a Full Head of Hair at 75

My grandfather still has a full head of hair at 75. So, imagine my surprise when I started losing hair in my early thirties. At first, I thought it was stress. Then, I met a long-lost uncle and realized that part of our family actually has the hair loss genes, if you can call them that. He was in his forties but he looked much older because of his hair loss. Since my own hair loss had gotten to a serious level and I had taken a peek into my future, I went straight to HEVA and asked for their help. Their analysis showed that I had significant recession in my temples, which was why my hair looked like the letter M, and my crown was also thinning. Things did not look good but they assured me that with an FUE hair transplant, I would be back to looking like myself in no time. They explained that the use of the adjusted FUE would ensure that they did not damage my follicles which were curved, as is always the case with afro hair. During the surgery, they extracted 2,800 grafts and implanted this in my bare sections. 1,800 of these went to my hairline while the rest were spread across all the thinning sections to ensure that the hair distribution looked normal. They later told me that they had managed to keep the transection rate at less than 3%. Per my understanding, this was a huge fete because afro hair tends to transect quite easily, which is why most hair transplant surgeons avoid such transplants or have lower success rates. So, go team! I experienced a lot of swelling when healing. In fact, on day 3, the swelling went down to my eye area, but I was able to manage this by wearing my headband and resting at an angle. I had also been warned that because of the texture of my hair, I would experience heavy crusting and was to use a special foam wash for the first 10 days until the scabbing subsided, which I did. Plus, I had to use a saline spray to again account for folliculitis. I believe the combination of their careful handling of my follicles and all the aftercare instructions I received played a big part in the success of my hair transplant. I now have dense hair with almost no visible scarring in my donor area. If only more hair transplant surgeons were as dedicated to their patients, then afro hair transplants would be more of a thing, because they obviously work if done right.
