Wonderful Experience As a Trans Woman
I saw Dr. Linkov for an FUT hair transplant in May of 2022 to fill in recession at my temples and lower my hairline. I found Dr Linkov via his YouTube channel, which I had stumbled across doing research for the procedure. When I noticed his clinic was local to nyc (like me), I added him to my list of consults and ultimately decided to go with him.
I’m a trans woman, so finding the right surgeon can be intimidating—especially in this case because it’s a procedure that lasts all day and involves extended interactions with a team of technicians, (and the typical patients hair transplants are cis men). I’m happy to report that Dr Linkov, his staff and his team, are very trans competent. I never felt uncomfortable or awkward during the 8+ hours of the procedure.
Dr. Linkov has a great bedside manor. He’s great at explaining this thoughts and answering questions. He has a very chill vibe and his attitude is both serious and upbeat. A nerdy enthusiasm that’s very comforting
The day of the procedure talked me through the entire process letting me know what to expect. We designed a hairline to match my goals. IIRC the target was about 1,800 grafts with the option of transplanting additional, incidental grafts harvested from the FUT strip at a greatly reduced rate. Ultimately I ended up with just north of 1900 grafts.
He planned out each graft placement according to whether it was a graft with multiple hairs or singles to achieve good density and natural hairline. Removing the strip from the back of my scalp was quick and painless. The actual transplant process lasted FOREVER, but the team was very friendly and good conversation made the time pass quickly (I believe there are options to watch tv or listen to music or be on your phone but I mostly just chatted)
There was a break for lunch and they had food delivered (we chose a taco place but there are infinite options in manhattan).
The procedure took a little longer because some scar tissue in my scalp had a harder time accepting the grafts (the grafts kept popping out), but they took their time and made sure everything looked good by the end.
Dr. Linkov texted a day or so post op to follow up and called me when I had questions.
Overall a very good experience and very recommended if you’re in the city. (I also recommend his youtube channel there’s a lot of good information there and it gives you a good sense of Dr Linkov’s personality).
Ive included a couple photos from immediately after the procedure. A selfie I took during our lunch break. A photo three months later after the initial grafts had fallen out. And some recent photos of my hairline in different lighting. Hairs are still coming in and I expect to see more pop up over the next couple months. The transplanted hair texture is very rough but apparently it will match my normal hair texture once this first generation of transplanted growth cycles through.
