It Has Been 11 Months and my Crown is Full

WORTH IT
Here is something that people with dreadlocks might not tell you – we also get alopecia! I grew my dreadlocks out when I was 20 and have had them for 19 years, which is pretty much half my life. But while they are very long and mature, I started noticing that my crown was thinning and that I had a severe case of traction alopecia. Shaving my hair and starting again was not an option because it is part of my identity. Besides, I work as an artist and the locs are part of my image. Heva promised they could work around my dreadlocks and solve my problem and so after a very extensive pre-op consultation, I booked my round ticket to Turkey for the first time! These guys pulled out all the stops when it came to my wellbeing. They booked me into a beautiful hotel near the clinic which had a private terrace, they picked me up at the airport, and they gave me a coordinator to help me with everything I needed. But the thing I liked the most was how respectful they were of my hair. Trust me – dreadlocks are not always treated with the care they deserve. So, it was nice to come across a team that handled them well to ensure that they did not damage them during the extraction or graft placement. Post-op was a bit hard because I could not retwist my locs for a good 6 months. I got used to the look after a while and have now gotten into the habit of letting my roots grow out before working on them. In truth, the frequent retwisting is probably what got me into this mess in the first place! It has been 11 months and my crown is full of new growth and I am already planning to loc this section so it can match the rest of my hair.
