59 Yrs Old, Cannot Get Rid of "4 Kids Belly Flab" Even After 30 Pound Weight Loss - Green Bay, WI
UPDATED FROM desgal
another opinion
$8,900
I am almost in tears as I write this. Today was supposed to be the day I joined the flat side. Since I have a 7" diagonal gall bladder scar, my doc feels I should lose 10 pounds before he makes any decision for my surgery. I scheduled a second opinion tomorrow morning, just for the heck of it. I've not heard good things about this second doctor but I am eager to hear what he has to say. Will he "take my money and run" or will he have my best interests at heart? Going to be interesting! My gut tells me to stick with my original doctor. 10 pounds is hard to lose!

no surgery for me... at least not now
Sorry to say surgery has been postponed. BIG miscommunication with the clinic and me. The pre op appointment I had yesterday really should have happened a month ago. When the doc said Exilis would not give me the results I wanted and I'd need a tummy tuck, I said OK and scheduled the date. NOTHING was said about another appointment, just a pre op one. Yesterday I find out that my gall bladder scar can cause some issues with pulling the upper skin down. He said he'd do the TT but I'd only be happy for a couple of months. His recommendation is for me to lose 10 pounds, then POSSIBLY have lipo done in the upper area (although if I lose the 10 I might not need it, that's the hope) and then re consider the tummy tuck. I totally blame the clinic for dropping the ball on this one. I do credit the doc for telling me this and not going ahead with the surgery and just taking my $$. Needless to say, I walked out of the office in tears. Although the decision is totally up to me (we could try lipo without my trying to lose weight) but he doesn't think that would give optimal results. Cannot do lipo and TT at same time because of the problems old gall bladder scar could cause. If I am going to spend mega dollars, I figure I should take his advice and go the weight loss route first, to get maximum results. Lots of emotions right now... wish me luck!

wow so sorry to read this. so is he saying he can't do the tummy tuck because of the scar?

July 17, 2014
No, he could do the tummy tuck but he said I would not be happy with the results very long because my upper tummy flab would still be a problem. He can't do lipo at the same time as TT because it could cause nasty wound damage. He suggested the weight loss first, then he'll see me again and take another look. Might mean doing lipo, healing from that, and then the TT. SOOO much to deal with and think about! How are you healing? Next Thurs will be a really emotional day for me, since that's that day I was supposed to join the flat sided community!

Have you seen other PS? Maybe you can find a few on here that offer free consultations to real self member's and get a few opinions, and then if it wasn't meant to be you"ll know for sure

I did get a second opinion today. Little wary... price included overnight stay in hosp and was still a few dollars cheaper than the first doc I saw. This one would not keep his focus on me. He'd look at me for a few seconds, then turn his eyes away from me. He did say he does not like to do lipo and TT at the same time. Agreed upper belly flab would still be a bit of an issue because of where my abdominal wall are fat cells are. Bottom line - what I really want is probably not possible. Might have to lower my expectations a bit.

Just read your journal, I too have an old gallbladder scar, was curious if you have had the surgery. I never thought before I started reading all these post that this would be an issue, however I'm glad some Dr.'s won't just go ahead and do it and not get the best results because of it.

I did not have the surgery. He wanted me to lose 10 pounds, then re-evaluate, and I could not seem to lose it. I am trying again. There is another surgeon in town that would have done it anyway, much cheaper too.. but I was afraid to go that route after what the first doc said. Good luck to you.. stay in touch and keep me posted

wrong spot!
I think I got started in the wrong spot on RS! This isn't a review.. yet. Should I be moving my info to a different spot? Doc said he gives me a binder for 2 weeks then has me buy Spanx. Any suggestions for what kind of spanx? Nurse said it depends on the person.. not sure what you all liked or didn't? Did you buy bigger size or what you'd normally wear?

What all are you having done? I'm scheduled for 7/29/14 for a BL, alot of lipo work (upper & lower abs, flanks, dreaded back fat rolls, etc.) and an incision low on my back to remove loose skin on my hips, "love handles" and old dog ears from a previous TT (2004). It sort of sounds like I'm having a backwards TT! LOL! I bought a few Spanx cami's firm control in a lg (I'm an extra-lg now) and a full body CG with short sleeves I bought from Taylor & Taylor on eBay. It look really well made and practical. Though the thought of wearing any tight garment through the heat of summer, makes this hot-flashin' gal grindge! Thank goodness for A/C and fans! My goal is to wear the CG's and shapewear for 3 months post-op. My doctor doesn't say to wear them that long, but I want the absolute best results for my age (52). In fact it will be my 53rd birthday when I plan to be free of wearing them. So I spent the money on the best quality garments and Spanx that I could. Hope this else, and keep us updated! ((Hugs))

Every time I write a comment, it disappears! Not sure if its showing up anywhere or not . I apologize it there are double/triple messages. I'm sorry if I got the date wrong. Mine is July 24. It was scheduled way back in April, so it seemed so far off... but now just a little over 3 weeks away. How are you doing? I'm not nervous YET... just working on typing up a list of questions for my doc. Love the advice here.. eager to hear your updates!

I've updated on my page click on my name and it will take you to my review. I had a rough time in the beginning with vomitting because of the pain meds, but he switched it and I'm doing much better now. I can go all day without taking anything, but at night I take a Vicodin to help me sleep.
