My father is a Russian Jew and my mother is of Latin descent so it seems my nose has inherited both the Jewish and Mayan aspects. Have been researching rhinoplasty surgeons for months all over the country. I even joined the Plastic Surgery Journeys website (for surgeries abroad) to look into doctors in different countries. Dr. Grigoryants is who I decided on after reading reviews and looking at photos for different doctors. Did an online consultation with Dr. David Kim in Beverly Hills and with Grigoryants. I waited 2 months for an in-person consultation with Grigoryants because I was paranoid that photos wouldn't provide enough for him to visualize my nose fully, and it was worth it. Dorsal hump, wide nostrils, large undefined tip and crookedness (C-shaped septum) are what Grigoryants has suggested he fix. Would like this surgery ASAP, but it's 8 months away-- hopefully a surgery opening comes up sooner.

New surgery date!

The doctor's office just called to let me know there was a cancellation, and now there's an opening for January 29! I'm going on a family trip to Austria and coming but on the 28th so I'm sure I'll be exhausted and jet-lagged having surgery the next day but this is so exciting! Also, my birthday is going to be spent in Austria with family which is awesome, but this means I won't get to celebrate with my boyfriend until much later, after healing is out of the way. Oh, well.
So now my biggest fear is that the old nose will grow back over the years. I've read a couple accounts of this happening... this is such an investment, and revision surgery is even more expensive and risky. Maybe it has to do with hormones in those cases? I swear my nose has grown some in the past year so the thought of it growing after surgery is giving me anxiety. Any advice or stories to share about that?

Hi mildness, I am so happy for you. I am also on the wait list for earlier this summer. At this point I am willing to miss my graduation ceremony to get this procedure done early in the summer.
Now with regards to your concerns and anxiety... Here is my take on the issue.
The nose and ears are both made up of cartilage and since cartilage is continuously repaired by the body, their growth throughout life is inevitable. That's why you will notice older adults will have very large noses and ears. If you are in your 20s, your body has now completed its major growth and development. However, regardless of getting a rhinoplasty or not, you should be aware that your nose will continue to get larger over the years. This is the case for everyone... Although the rate of growth with vary (just like how some people's hair grows so much faster). To be honest, I think this should be the least of your concerns. Dr. G's work is amazing (from the pictures I have seen) and he makes the nose quite small. So the minor growth in the nose over the years shouldn't have a huge impact on the appearance of the nose. Best of luck with the procedure and please update us on your results. I would love to see how your nose looks before I get my own surgery. it will give me reassurance that I have chosen the right doctor after 22 years of waiting. -waitingmywholelife

I agree that your post was well said! Thank you so much for your reply-- the support is very meaningful, and it's nice to know of other grigoryants patients as people and not just anonymous photos on his website. It sounds like this is a very important surgery for you. I'll be very open on this community about my procedure to help out-- hopefully this can give you some peace of mind. I'm excited for you to have your surgery and I look forward to hearing about it. Best of luck to you!

natural noses continue to grow as you get older. However, noses that have been operated on actually contract over time, which is in the long run it's better not to remove too much cartilage. Some surgically altered noses look great at first but due to lack of underlying support collapse. Many actresses who had nose jobs years ago exemplify this, like Marlo Thomas.

Great point! One of the selling points of my Ps/ENT is that he doesn't remove cartilage if at all possible, but instead sutures and moves it, so that in theory a complete reconstruction could be achieved (though he's never had to do that with his own work, he says).

this method of cartilage folding/repositioning a technique that really intrigues me, and i was actually interested in a turkish doctor who performs surgery this way. his name is dr. baris cakir, and i love his results and his videos which showcase this technique. this philosphy makes a lot of sense to me, and seems less dangerous, with less potential for deteriorating and contracting over time. unfortunately, i live in the states and the trek to turkey was just too much for me so i decided against going with cakir. but i'd love to find a US doc who is using this technique.

Dr. Bridges, whom I'm having my rhino with in ten days, does it! Look up his website. I like his philosophy and attitude towards ps. He's in Virginia (I'm traveling from Mass) :)

Oh man...same! It takes me so long to type a typo free message on my phone here!

Also, I totally feel you on having a large jewish shoz. I have a similar nose. So excited to see your journey!

Although to clarify, your nose isn't that bad at all! You're very pretty and I'm sure this will only enhance that :)

So I'm not sure how scientific this resource is, but according to Dr. Oz on this site (http://www.doctoroz.com/blog/arthur-perry-md/noses-and-ears-continue-grow-we-age) they do continue to grow, though it is usually slow and not dramatic. From what I've read elsewhere, gravity and degeneration of the tissues accounts for the more dramatic changes in appearance. The face loses volume, things sag, and tissues aren't as bouncy as they once were. The resulting changes make any cartilage growth look more pronounced. For example, women's faces get slimmer amd cheeks lose volume, making the nose stand out more. Or men's hair thins and earlobes and upper ears sag due to gravity, making the ears appear even larger than they are. The skin over the cartilages also gets thinner, making any knobbiness more evident. All that said, one reason I decided to go for it was I already have a thin face and a long knobby nose- imagining what I'd look like as an older woman really scared me! I'd be all nose then.
As for noses "growing back" after surgery I really can't find any scientific proof that this is possible, unless the surgeon didn't in fact remove or reposition the cartilages. It's just not possible in a short time frame. Small changes over time can seem like a big deal, though, so perhaps the growth we feel we've all seen since our teens is a result of lots of factors and that incremental cartilage growth just sort of reaches a tipping point where one day it suddenly seems bigger than we believed it was. But really it doesn't seem medically likely that a nose could grow back in a few months or years. More likely the nose seemed smaller from the compression of tape or splint, and once that was removed, resumed it's final larger shape. My 2 cents and internet research :)

Thank you for starting your story! You are gorgeous. Any idea what will happen with your piercings during the rhinoplasty process?
