Better Now Than Never or A New Nose for Me - Glendale, CA

Well it is time for me to give back to the community that was of such a benefit to me in finally going through with a procedure I have wanted for so long. I had never really thought about my nose until one day when I was about 13 and my younger brother looked at me and said "your nose looks like a pear" I can still remember the exact spot where I was standing and have not been able to stop obsessing about it since. That was many years ago. Since that time I have had many consults. Each would occur after meeting someone who had themselves gone through the procedure sparking my interest and resolve to have it done. However I never felt comfortable with the outcome the PS would indicate could be achieved. It always seemed I was discourage about the result that could I could expect from refining the tip and narrowing the front view. One friend from school who exhibited an exquisite new profile after surgery hardly looked any different from the front! But recently while searching on line what has become known as ethnic rhinoplasty I found this site and reviews by others that demonstrated fabulous results refining just those areas. Particularly one entitled "wide bridge and bulbous tip" Her before and after photos put me in high gear to seek out her surgeon and do this once and for all. BTW my regards to all of you younger women who have had the courage to go through with this procedure now. You will greatly benefit from living your life free of this nuisance stifling your self confidence.
So I had surgery on Thurs Dec 3rd with Dr. Grigoryants. It was just 2 months after my initial e-mail contact and getting on the wait list. Let's get this done! The in person consult 3 weeks before was not rushed. He said "you will still have your nose" but he did specifically address the things I felt needed to be addressed. I did not bring pictures of dream noses since the e-mail response was exactly what I would have requested. I figured he knows what he is doing and is 1000 X more objective about what would look good on my face. I just really wanted to meet him in person before I committed.
So today I am 4 days post op and in what I call the Dr. Seuss phase (look it up: "The Cat in the Hat" the swollen cheeks and lower face) or the avatar phase to which most of you refer. My cast is off tomorrow and I can already tell the tip is definitely narrower and more triangular than the boxy square tip I had.
Surgery was a breeze. The staff was kind and caring and I woke with no nausea or vomiting but made up for it in swelling and bruising. I have taken only 2 extra strength tylenol every 7-8 hours since surgery except for the 2 pain pills they gave me coming out of anesthesia. My appetite has been okay for yogurt, fruit and juices but last night I really wanted some protein and ate steak! Today I am purging the salt by going back to more basic fare. My nose throbbed and the cast felt really tight last night.
I will be posting photos both before and after. Thanks again for all of you for posting with such detail and honesty.

Cast Off

mlv15
What a relief to have the cast off yesterday. Dr G was quick and efficient and the discomfort was minimal. However I am still very bruised and do not want to post pics yet and scare anyone. My boyfriend and I went to lunch immediately after and I did get lots of stares. He was glad I had tape on my nose so people would not think he did this to me! He makes me laugh quite a bit so we looked quite joyful together as well ( he even made Dr. G laugh) . So about the nose. It is so much smaller than what I had. That's not a bad thing but It takes some getting used to thats for sure. As soon as the bruising that remains around my eyes and cheeks and some that has now migrated to my lower face resolves I will post. I am still taking tylenol but only 1 tabs now for pressure and discomfort.
Thanks to all of you for your detailed updates that I can refer back to and feel confident I am on the right track.

So glad to hear it went well! I feel like the "smallness" takes awhile to get used to for sure. I went through a phase around 3 weeks where I was upset about it, but it passed. It just really takes awhile to adjust to a new look in the middle of your face. Happy healing and thanks for the update!

Thank you for your feedback. i had a moment last night when I said "What have you done!!" regarding my decision to do this not the result. Then I remembered all the things I have read here that I would indeed feel this way and it too shall pass along with the swelling.

Yes, your nose will continue to keep changing every couple of days. I didn't like my nose when i first took the cast off, but it was due to the swelling so it made it look weird. I'll become more and more defined day by day. Make sure you keep icing it, this will help with the swelling. Happy healing. :)
