Rhinoplasty to Fix septum.Bulbous Oversized Nose + Chin Implant - Glendale, CA

I ha e always hated my nose and thought it was too large for my small face. It was wide, long, and bulbous. I recently graduated with myaster's degree and as a gift I bought myself rhinoplasty/septoplasty and a chin implant. I went on three consults and finally decided to go with Dr. Susan L. Chobanian. She has a great deal of experience, I believe over 25 years! She is confident, knowledgeable, and straight forward. The staff was helpful and kind as well. I am two weeks post op and my nose is still extremely swollen but my profile already looks great. I had my nose narrowed, de-projected, nostrils minimized, and tip refined in addition to fixing my deviated septum and turbinate reduction. I can already breath through my nose two weeks post op and am happy for that! My chin implant was a medium sized one put externally and it really balanced out my face. I will update with more pictures as swelling subsides gradually.

Hi, did you have your nostrils made smaller as well? Great result by the way! Jelly! Wish mine turned out this good
July 3, 2015
Thanks! Yes, my nostrils were reduced as well.
July 3, 2015
I'm currently preparing to get a revision :)
July 3, 2015
The best of luck! I read your experience and I truly hope you can find a surgeon who will give you what you want. Did you try asking for a refund of some sort? From what you wrote he didn't provide the services you paid for.
July 3, 2015
Aww, thanks for reading! Most PS don't offer returns because they argue that plastic surgery is a "subjective science." They make you sign all these forms. Well, from what you've seen, I still have a long nose, hump, and yucky tip. Very frustrating. I could go back to him and get a free revision, but what's to say you can trust him to the do the job right a 2nd time when he couldn't get it right the 1st time? I have a consult with him on Monday, and am meeting Dr. Umang Mehta about a possible revision on July 29th. The only con to going to Dr Mehta would be the cost, of course. It'll probably be in the neighborhood of 10-12 grand ugh
July 3, 2015
Yeah, those forms are what get you! I've heard of some surgeons giving the patient a partial refund, but I guess those people were lucky. I think if I were in your situation I would seek out a new surgeon to perform the revision, the amount of money you have to spend sucks! That's the risk we take with cosmetic procedures :(
July 3, 2015
Yeah, thanks for responding! It's refreshing to hear from people who don't judge me for saving up to go to a rhino/revision specialist. I might ask him for a partial refund on Monday, that's a good idea. It's worth a shot, right? Anyway, I don't want to bog you down with my depressing story!

What happened to you sucks and it happens a lot with rhinoplasty. My nose is still swollen and I can't see the final result yet, but if something is not how I expected it I would get a revision too. I don't know why some people judge others because they want to change something they don't like and have the means to do so. I live in LA so plastic surgery is not a big deal, however, I always have to hide it from colleagues because they judge. I really hope you get some sort of refund because anesthesia and operating room cost is at least $2000 that the doctor would have to pay if he did your revision for free, so just throw that out there when you speak to him. Also, you can threaten to go to the board of surgeons, make YouTube videos of his poor work, and go on yelp. Plastic surgery is a business and I don't think he would want your experience out there.
July 3, 2015
Thank you, very good ideas indeed. I completely understand what you mean about colleagues. But since I'm still a college student, the unsupportive opinions of my family members and even friends are inescapable! Very depressing to feel completely alone, as if no one wants you to be happy with yourself and the way you look. I will request that he refund at least some. Even something like $2000 would make my revision operation that much more attainable for me, cost-wise, with another surgeon (a specialist this time). I think Yelp will scare him a bit. I doubt he'd be pleased with future clients seeing a terrible review on one of the biggest customer review sites. Maybe that explains why he's been trying to reach out to me lately.

Swelling is still present but nose is taking shape everyday. The doctor assured me that it will get 50% thinner.

Gosh. . . I can see why you are so pleased. Your results are absolutely beautiful! The funny thing is I bet people are going to see Glendale, CA and assume this is Dr. Grigoryants work! Thank you for posting your pictures, I will be following along with your progress. As you mentioned in another post, it is difficult to find any galleries of Dr. Chobanian's work. Did she have photos available when you went for your consultation? Also, do you know if she does closed rhinoplasties? And finally, how long was the wait between your consultation and your surgery?

Thank you for sharing your experience . . . again your results are just lovely . . . and congratulations on receiving your master's degree!

Best,
Kelly

Thank your for the kind words! Dr. Chobanian does closed rhinoplasty and all my stitches are inside my nose, no visible scars! I had a great deal of bruising because she did a lot of work to my septum and removed bones that were protruding into my sinus. To be honest, I don't know if she has pictures of patients. I didn't ask because I know a lot of people who had their noses done by her that I trusted her. The thing with looking at other peoples pictures is that every nose I different and each person's healing process is different. Scar tissue can accumulate differently from one person to another and end up with different results. The worst part about all this is the healing process. I want to see results right away and have to keep reminding myself to not panic about the swelling, shape, unevenness because I am still extremely swollen. She had to do so much work to my nose because my nostrils and tip were huge and the nose itself very long. Also, I had a wide nose. She basically made me a whole new nose, unlike other people who just get the hump shaved off because they already have decent looking noses. I took her pictures of noses I liked and she told me which ones would match my face. In the end, we decided on going with an Australian model by the name of Jennifer Hawkins's nose. Dr. Chobanian takes your photo and then during the pre op she draws on the picture to reshape the nose and show you what it will look like. Unlike other surgeons, the first two weeks you go on every other day to have her clean the inside of your nose after surgery. This is nice because I was very scared to change the dressings and didn't want to pop a stitch or mess something up. She even has an esthetician in the office that does amazing facials. She is good with ethnic noses as well. As far as the timeline, I had my consult booked early May and scheduled my surgery mid June. I probably could've had it done sooner but I had to finish my program and graduate prior to surgery. She does surgeries twice a week and can knock out several rhinoplasties per day. All of her patients I have seen in the office have come out with the most beautiful noses right after cast removal. Let me know if you have more questions and I will be happy to answer them for you :)

I wanted to share the before photos Dr. Chobanian took prior to my surgery. Although my after nose is still swollen because I am early in recovery, you can see how much my nose was reduced.

thanks for your review! Im debating between Dr. Chobanian or Dr. Grigoryants....do you have any more after pics?
August 27, 2015
Hi, yeah I do. I need to do a two month post op update soon. I was also debating between the two and it came down to cost and when I could have the procedure done. I had an online consult with dr. G and felt like he sent the same email to everyone because it was very generic and impersonal. Dr. Chobanian has a lot of patients and was still able to quickly see me and schedule a surgery date. Dr. G has like a 9month wait to just get an appointment which I thought was a waste of my time. Also, dr. C has more experience and they do everything quickly and efficiently in their office. I like my nose, it's still swollen but better than before.
