Hi everyone!

I've had large breasts for as long as I can remember. Runs in my family, being top-heavy, with narrow hips which makes me look like I'm about to topple over! I developed young, and have been dealing with being huge-chested for so long that the time has come to do something about it. I have the same complaints as so many of you here - back and neck pain, absolutely horrendous posture, grooves in my shoulders, and probably worst of all is the complete lack of self confidence.

I'd heard of Ben Chew through years of research, and of friends and relatives having been treated by him and raved of the results. So much so that I had my consultation on Wednesday 28th June, and he was a lovely man as expected. Lurking on RealSelf for such a long time has helped with all the basic questions but Ben did a great job of putting my mind at ease and I'm provisionally booked in for 23rd Feb 2018 - man is in demand!

With a date finally put in the diary the whole thing feels real now, although it is quite a while away I think this is a positive thing as it gives me time to lose a little more weight. My weight has fluctuated due to a bout of severe depression and consequent medication issues (although my cup size didn't change one bit) so this will give me time to focus more on eating healthy and exercising before the procedure. And of course fantasising about beautiful lacy bras - that will just have to wait!

Any hints and tips you ladies can give in the lead up to the big day are much appreciated. I will post photos of course, and look forward to getting to know some of you!

I had a consultation with Ben Chew. Brilliant man. I wish i could have gone ahead but it was just too expensive. Your comment has reminded me that i need to rethink and save every penny and get this done. Im joining a gym again now in cumbernauld and your message has inspired me to act now. Thank you. Good luck with everything! Ben Chew does have great results on reviews and is lovely. He even gave good explanation on aftercare (surgical bra after op etc) i also have depression etc and have made great progress with private and nhs trauma therapy. Simplest thing i can suggest (and u r doing it) is continue to love yourself/body. Feed it the best organic food. You deserve it. My depression gets better and i feel great juicing a few times a week. Once a month. Organic lemons limes ginger celery cucumber whole apples and pineapple. If a need a mental lift I drink a litre 3 times daily of different or same combos. yes without fibre it does give an insulin rise but if u just juice that day it doesnt cause much of an issue and without bulk ir fibre u dont feel hungry. (From Youtube free film fat sick and nearly dead, its good to watch) juicing is Great for colds and boosting energy and gives your body loads of nutrients to renew collagen in skin and gives ur digestion processes a wee rest. Maybe after op if u dont feel like eating then getting someone to juice for you may help give ur body what it needs to repair skin and tissue quickly and give u energy. I find milk and breads make me feel rubbish and so does sugar. If it comes straight out the ground or picked off a tree i feel great. Wishing you all the best.

Hi Valleio! thanks for your comment. He's great. It's funny I actually live in London but travelled home to my parents to have the consultation and will go home for the op. Having the surgery at a Harley St clinic would just be so much more expensive and I wouldn't want to be away from my mum etc afterwards. He did actually question this and suggest a surgeon in London which I appreciated. Interestingly too he did actually say I would have qualified for NHS treatment if I was still registered with a Doctor in Scotland (meanwhile no chance in England due to lack of funding!). I did ask my GP when I lived in Glasgow years ago and all I got was that I needed to have years of back pain on my medical records to even be considered. Not something I would go to a doctor to as it's something I just deal with. I suppose it depends on your GP too really. That's great to hear you're getting treatment and responding well for your depression. I'm off all meds now and doing so much better than I was this time last year so just getting back into routine. Having things to look forward to is great! I hope you think about going back to Ben, keep us posted!x

Good luck!!! It will be fine. I am 6 weeks post and all healed up. Don’t buy any flimsy bras for now until you know for sure what your final size outcome will be. I found yoga bras the best and cotton front opening post surgery bras best. You will not want to wear anything which bites into the base scars so get something which has a wide band beneath which is not too tight. Comfort is key. There will be plenty of time for lace later on! Plan to be free from stress and stock up with some arnica and silicone gel. Some pain relief just in case and get some good probiotics too. You will be lovin it - keep positive - it will be great!!!

So after confirming my surgery (I emailed Ben to confirm after he had pencilled me in provisionally but haven't had any confirmation since, taking that it's all booked in) I've let my work know what's happening. I spoke with my manager in private and let him know I was having an op and that it was to help with back pain etc. Was quite nervous about it actually! He was very good about it, which didn't surprise me as he's the nicest guy. I was worried about the time off required afterwards, though, as my job is very hectic and I feel bad even taking holidays, so I'm sure I'll be expected to work from home, even when I'm laid up.

Speaking to HR was fine, too, and they just suggested that after the procedure I keep in touch with how I'm getting on. I live and work in London and am going back to Glasgow to have it done to be with family etc. However, now the nerves have kicked in about everyone else asking where I am whilst I'm away for an extended period of time. I'll be signed off for four weeks (probably not taking that full time) but I don't want everyone in the office knowing. Not that I'm ashamed or anything, quite the opposite. I just don't want to explain to every single person who asks where I've been. So my decision is to keep it vague with "I'm having surgery for my back", which is true, in essence.

Overthinking is a terrible thing, sometimes! Only 7 more months of this.

So he is! I forgot about that! Before my consultation the Nuffield called me asking if I could change my appointment as he was going away on holiday and I think I was his last slot in the diary before going away. Should have thought of that one!

I am booked in with Ben too, mine is October 30th. I had my first consultation May 18th and just received confirmation letter from Ross Hall. You will hear from them, I guess that's just how they work. I think I will be using your line too going forwards "I'm having surgery for my back"

I only told a couple of people at work, and took a week and a half off to 'go on holiday' (you have the perfect excuse as you are actually going away), and then worked from home for the next week before I went back to the office. I looked very different (I thought) but no one mentioned it apart from a woman who asked if I'd lost weight! Either the guys didn't even notice (most likely) or they didn't like to say anything ;-). Either way there was no drama!

That is exactly what i told my boss. It's true- it is to help my back. Did tell one friend at work with a big mouth so im sure everyone knows lol. I am 9 days post op now and going back tomorrow. Bit nervous about what/if people will say anything. I am definitely not ashamed of the surgery and nor do I care what people think about it. Just shy and rather not talk about boobs with colleagues...
