I first decided I wanted surgery over 5 years ago,...
I first decided I wanted surgery over 5 years ago, after 2 pregnancies and a 4 stone stone weight loss left me with classic loss of volume and a gradual increase in asymmetry. I train a lot and was very concerned about going under the muscle, but was equally worried about my lack of tissue to cover an implant.
I proceeded to see 4 surgeons over a 4 year period and either found they did not listen to my needs, had conveyor belt syndrome, where you felt you were just a pound sign and then finally the second to last surgeon was lovely but was keen to do two separate operations and then cost was in excess of £10,000 ($14,000) and I could not afford the time out of my schedule of justify the cost.
I came across Mr Shoaib via a friend who had had surgeon and her results were incredible. I decided to fly up to Glasgow from London, even though he operates out of Harley Street to because my dates were very specific and I needed to get the consultation complete as there must be 14 days between consultation and surgery.
The consultation went well, even when I proceeded to choke in the middle of talking. We were able to laugh it off and I immediately felt comfortable as I wanted a surgeon that had a relaxed, but professional manner. La Belle Forme is the clinic location for consultations and I had such lovely contact with the reception team through out, especially with Lisa. The consultation was 30 minutes long and we discussed equally what was possible vs what I wanted. I made it clear from the start that I wanted small implants and it as nice not being pushed to go bigger. In my mind I had decided that partial under were what i wanted but Mr Shoaib advised overs based on the fact that I needed an uplift and wanted it done at the same time. We agreed on implant size and profile, 220 high profile textured Allergen Inspira. A few days after the surgery I became concerned that I was going too small and so requested a second consultation which was offered just a few days after at the Harley Street location. This time I took my husband, just incase I missed something. After discussing my concerns Mr Shoaib agreed I could go bigger and suggested 265cc. I have quite a small frame so even 265cc were substantial.
Having time to think about things after the second consultation I decided to take middle ground and opted for 240cc.
I felt very relaxed about the whole process and I was happy with Ross Hall Hospital, the facilities were immaculate and the staff attentive. I arrived at 930am after flying up the previous day and as I was last on the list, relaxed for the day and watched tv/ used the wifi to work.
Mr Shoaib came and saw me mid morning and drew on my chest and I again felt relaxed. He is a very clear and direct person which has its pros and cons. It means he doesn't mince his words and tells you things straight, which quite honestly is a priority to me personally, but it also means that he isn't quite as attentive as maybe some would like. I approached the surgery knowing that there was a lot of work to do and with huge expectations on my part. As well as the uplift, I need a reduction to my left breast to try and minimise the asymmetry, I say minimise because it was made clear to me that it would be very difficult to make them identical. To also note I have quite severe pectus excavatum which is the opposite of pigeon chested and so my central part of my chest dips a lot.
I was taken down to surgery last afternoon and went to sleep with a smile on my face. When I came to I expected a lot of pain, but had very little if any. I would safe discomfort more than pain. My only issue I experienced in the first 12 hours of recovery was nausea but this was dealt with via an injection in my leg. Staff on night duty couldn't do enough for me and I was brought toast and jam several times in the night to see if I was hungry.
Mr Shoaib visited my bedside during breakfast the following morning and after a chat and a look at his handy work he kindly offered me a complimentary facial at his clinic since I wasn't due to fly home for a few days. This was very unexpected and a lovely touch, also very much enjoyed!
There really wasn't anything to see because the dressings were so neat and after leaving hospital I checked into a hotel for a few nights to rest and do a bit of shopping. I was amazed that I could shower straight away as the dressing were waterproof and I can honestly say everything feels good after a nice shower!
At my 7 day post op appointment I was very prepared for my breasts to look awful. I had researched for so many years and knew that uplift and implants at the same time often look horrific for the first few weeks. I wasn't proved wrong and I was quite alarmed to find one nipple pointing forward and the other on my smaller breast pointing to the ground. I was mortified and although Mr Shoaib seemed not remotely worried, I can't deny that I was petrified and had days where I regretted the surgery.
This is why it is absolutely essential to have trust in your surgeon and 10 weeks post op and over 100 selfies later, I cannot believe how well they have healed and settled. My nipples are almost level which I am astounded stand although I would still like a small adjustment, I feel relaxed as Mr Shoaib assured me throughout that these adjustments, if needed would be included and done under general. A small price to pay when many surgeons prefer you to have 2 full separate surgeries.
One of my scars did open over christmas and I found that terrifying, swabs showed no infection and I believe it was just the pressure from multiple surges in one go and it healed in under 2 weeks.
11 weeks post op and I do not regret the surgery. To this day I am at a loss as to how I had such small implants and hardly any tissue and ended up in a 30E bra!!! I do not think they look that big and my close friends agree they look ample but not big, which is what i didn't want. There is really only one thing that I am disappointed about and that is the amount of rippling. I thought rippling was just a possibility but now I can see that it was inevitable. Most of it doesn't bother me too much, however on the smaller breast, my tissue does not cover the implant as well and so you can see quite a harsh shape on my cleavage and I have a visible ripple even on standing straight. The dent like appearance is down to my pectus excavatum/asymmetry and nothing to do with the surgery, however I would like to explore a small amount of fat transfer to smooth this area out.
Even with the rippling I would still go through with the surgery again and I would not hesitate to chose Mr Shoaib.
I have tried to include things that I had wanted to know previously but have not found the answers to, if anyone wants to know anything more about my surgery, I am more than happy to chat :)
My surgery was a fixed fee that was written down prior to my appointment, which I again liked. At £6750 I was extremely happy with the price, especially as the surgeon before quoted over £9000.

Provider Review
After meeting with so many surgeons and almost giving up hope, I knew within about 10 minutes that I wanted Mr Shoaib to perform my surgery. He is easy to talk to and I was given the space to be very clear about what I wanted. I liked the fact that he did not push me to go bigger, even when I wanted such small implants and even though it can be a little difficult to swallow at times he is very straight talking and honest about the limitations of what is possible and how realistic your expectations are. Overall I am very happy.
