My Hair Restoration Experience with Dr. Sean Behnam — Highly Recommended

When I started researching hair restoration specialists, I spent a lot of time comparing different doctors both locally and outside of California. I knew there were many options available in other states and even overseas at different price points, but I wanted to find someone local who I could build a relationship with and visit easily for follow-up care. After researching and consulting with several specialists in Southern California, I chose Dr. Sean Behnam’s office in Santa Monica, and I can confidently say it was the right decision. If you are local to Southern California and have the ability to visit his office for after-care visits, he would be my top recommendation.
Overall, my experience has been fantastic. I came in with Norwood Scale 3 male pattern hair loss and decided to proceed with an FUE hair transplant procedure. Dr. Sean recommended approximately 2,700 grafts to restore the affected areas, and I could not be happier with the results so far. The transformation has been significant—not only in appearance but also in rebuilding my confidence and self-esteem.
From the very beginning, Dr. Sean was excellent with communication and patient care. He was approachable, patient, and always willing to answer questions. Before and after the procedure, we regularly exchanged text messages about the small questions that patients often forget to ask during appointments, common concerns that come up during recovery, and reassurance that what I was experiencing was normal. Whenever I had discomfort or uncertainty, he provided guidance and suggestions that helped make the recovery process much easier.
For the procedure itself, I opted for the full package, which included twilight anesthesia. It was an additional cost, but in my opinion, it was absolutely worth it. The procedure takes several hours, and this option allowed me to comfortably rest through most of it. I only woke up briefly for a bathroom break and near the end of the procedure. For something this important, the added comfort and experience were well worth the investment.
One thing I appreciated was Dr. Sean’s attention to detail, especially regarding hairline design and hair directionality. If you have specific preferences, I recommend discussing them with him. He provided recommendations based on what would look natural, and I trusted his expertise. I am now about six months post-procedure, and my hairline looks great. Other than trained professionals, nobody can tell that I had a transplant. I have even received compliments from coworkers and friends who simply noticed that I looked better.
The most challenging part of the entire experience was actually the after-care. The procedure itself was easier than I expected—the recovery period required the most discipline. For about two weeks, your head is wrapped with a bandage, which needs to be changed daily along with applying topical gel to the donor area. Sleeping in an elevated position for several days to protect the grafts takes some adjustment, and showering and daily care require patience. However, once that initial recovery period passes, things become much easier. You can wear loose-fitting baseball caps while waiting for your hair to grow out, and looking back, every bit of effort was completely worth it.
The entire staff has been wonderful, professional, and friendly throughout the process. I always felt comfortable asking questions and never felt awkward or hesitant about any part of my care. Dr. Sean’s calm demeanor, accessibility, and genuine concern for his patients really stood out.
