2227 FUE Grafts / Dr. Nader / Reynosa, Mexico
Well, after kicking the proverbial can around for several years I finally had my procedure done on June 14th 2021. After a few months of comparing surgeons, and reading reviews, I ended up going with Dr. Nader in Reynosa, Mexico. I chose Dr. Nader for a few reasons, most importantly his patient reviews and results. They're impressive. I'm also a fan of his website. Unlike other hair transplant websites that barrage you with price points and pictures, Dr. Naders website is humble, and seems to convey a quiet sense of professionalism. His website has also been up and running since at least 2004, according to the Wayback Machine.
Once I made up my mind, I sent out an email to his office administrator, Brenda Salazar inquiring about prices and availability. After 10 days, and several unanswered emails, I finally received a response back from Brenda, who apologized profusely, and helped me to secure an appointment. At this point I started having doubts, but I ended up going ahead with Dr. Nader, and I'm glad I did. From that point on, every email and text I sent, was answered quickly, and professionally. Brenda was instrumental in arranging every aspect of my trip, and answering any questions I had along the way.
Once I arrived in Mcallen, Texas I was picked up at the airport by the hotel shuttle, and transported back to the hotel. The following morning I was picked up by Aaron, a longtime friend and employee of Dr. Nader's who drove me across the border and to the clinic. It was a short trip from the hotel (20 mins) but Aaron was friendly and courteous and seemed grateful for the opportunity to practice his English. Once I arrived at the clinic, I was greeted by a receptionist who handed me a form to fill out with standard medical information. A few minutes later Dr. Nader came out to greet me, and I was escorted back to his office. Dr. Nader was polite, soft spoken, and warm. Within minutes of sitting down, I felt at ease. For the next 20 - 30 minutes we discussed what my expectations and goals were, and some preliminary lines were mapped out on my scalp. The Doctor then explained every step of the procedure to follow, and explained that at any time we could stop and take a break. Once I was ready, Dr. Nader escorted me into another room where my head was shaved by an assistant, and I was prepared for surgery.
About 15 minutes later I was escorted into a larger room for the extraction phase of surgery. At the center of the room sat a medical bed and a few rolling stools on either side. I was then asked to lay face down on the bed, and once I was comfortable, Dr. Nader and his assistant set to work. The extraction phase took around two hours, and it was oddly enough a very relaxing experience. Every so often I would feel a slight pinch and alternating pressure as the grafts were extracted and anesthesia was applied. I noticed that if I shifted or moved position the Doctor and his assistant would stop their work, and wait a moment before continuing. They both seemed very aware of my comfort levels and making sure the process was never painful. In the background a radio played alternative rock, and I found myself on more than a few occasions drifting off to sleep. The entire process took a little over two hours and once we were finished, I was escorted into another room to break for lunch.
This room had a comfortable looking medical chair in the center, which faced a 50in flat screen tv that was secured to the wall. Dr. Nader tuned the tv to Netflix and handed me the remote, explaining that the tv was for me, and that I could pick anything I wanted to watch. The Doctor then left and a few moments later and returned with a full plate of tacos and a Coke. He then handed me some meds to take with my meal, and took a few minutes to explain when I should take them. One thing I'd like to mention here is how thorough Dr. Nader is. Unlike other doctors who always seem pressed for time, Dr. Nader seems to take a great deal of enjoyment in communicating with his patients. A few minutes later Dr. Nader left me to enjoy my lunch, and I launched The Walking Dead on Netflix.
Once I was finished with lunch, Dr. Nader returned with a few assistants in tow. I was happy to learn that the extraction phase would take place in the same room, and I could continue to watch The Walking Dead for the remainder of surgury. The chair I was sitting on was reclined back and they set to work on the implanting phase of the procedure. Dr. Nader working on the left side of my head, and his assistant working on the right. The pain during this phase was slightly higher than the Extraction phase and at times the anesthesia "pinches" were a bit more painful. Overall, the pain only ever lasted a moment and was pretty easy to navigate. Seven episodes of The Walking Dead later, and the procedure was complete.
A few minutes later, we met back in Dr. Naders office, where for the next 30-40 minutes we discussed the results of the procedure, and the after-care required. He answered any questions I had, and seemed genuinely interested in taking the time to explain anything I was unsure of. He seemed very invested in my success, and explained that if I had any questions or concerns along the way, that he was just a phone call away. As I left Dr. Naders office, I felt not only prepared to deal with the after care, but I felt confident that I had found a doctor who was in it for the long haul.
TLDR:
Dr. Nader is an excellent surgeon who has a great deal of empathy and respect for his patients. He also seems to take an immense pride in his work, and the incredible results he delivers. I think Dr. Nader just might be the most professional doctor I've met, and if I had to do it all over again, I would choose this doctor over any American doctor, even if they could match his prices.
Results
It's been 6 months so far, and the results I received from Dr. Nader have been incredible! I'd say the density of my hairline is well over 90%, and I fully expect to reach 100% in the coming months. I've been in contact with Dr. Nader several times over the past few months, and true to his word, he has always been just a phone call away. Since the procedure I am happier, healthier and much more confident.
