After many years of considering this procedure, I had finally reached my limits at 46 years of age. Being a woman who does a lot of work outside and much of it physical, I was really feeling my limitations at the end of every day. My neck hurt almost constantly. I had a space between my shoulder blades that had been numb for 10 years. Chiropractic treatment was only helping me for a few short hours. I had deep indentations in my shoulders from the bra straps digging into my flesh and finding a bra had become a nightmare. I had given birth to two children and had breastfed both but, afterwards my breasts did NOT return to normal size. I used to do some running and had spent many years riding and showing horses in competition. I gave both of them up because it was so uncomfortable. Even dieting didn't produce results. My breasts stayed the same size and I lost weight in my legs and hips. It got to the point that the only time I was truly comfortable was when I laid in my bed. This is not an option for my lifestyle!!! I am active in/on our family farm. I drive tractor and trucks, haul grain to the elevator, help with the daily chores of feeding cattle and horses, and lift heavy things like 5 gallon buckets of water and bales of hay. I also mow around 8 acres of grass sometimes twice a week. All these activities required TWO athletic bras at the SAME time!
After getting my husband on board, (that took a while) I made my appointment for a consultation and decided to proceed. Due to a cancellation, my surgery was moved up quickly on the schedule. My actual surgery went smoothly at a surgical center and I was sent home. I had a long history of very tender breasts so I was not surprised with the post op pain. It took a month for me to feel better and sleep soundly. It was 2 full months before I was back to all of my normal activities. (at that point I walked in a local 5K benefit.)
Since my breast reduction surgery, the quality of my daily life is so much improved!!! It has given me more energy and I feel like I can contribute and participate fully in the lives of my family and friends. I have started jogging again and can even get out of bed in the morning without immediately putting a bra on! My husband is learning to appreciate the "smaller version" of me as well. Ha Ha.
I highly recommend this surgery to anyone who feels like they are missing out on life because of their breast size. I feel like I am 10 pounds lighter. My posture is better. The numbness between my shoulder blades is going away. I no longer look top heavy in all of my clothing. Shopping is fun now instead of an experience of frustration and anger! My breasts are actually less tender and I was able to tolerate my yearly mammogram much better just recently. I can exercise comfortably and I am sleeping better. In my opinion, I enjoy the added bonus of having very nice (shape and uniformity) results! My only regret is, "Why didn't I do this 5 YEARS earlier!!!???"
