Dr. Sassani is a miracle worker and I want to say...
Dr. Sassani is a miracle worker and I want to say Thank You to the man who truly changed my life.
This is long overdue, but I have been watching a recent episode of Botched and also the Biggest Looser and those shows do not even compare to what Dr. Sassani did for me.
On 07.29.2002 I was one of the first people to have Gastric by Pass at Holy Cross hospital. I had been working in a legal office as a para-legal close to Holy Cross and kept having women coming in for divorces of all things and telling me they had gastric bypass. Finally a girl I knew suggested I should go for it and have the procedure done and I did 30 days later from that conversation I weighed roughly 325 pounds on a 5 foot 3 inch frame and I was 43 years old.
I had always been heavy but after 4 children I had gained an additional 100 pounds. I personally believe that when you are uncomfortable with your body it’s time to change it. Being overweight was hell. When I went to the store, looked at the door and decided it was too far to walk, it was the last straw. I Also I went to Disney World and could not fit in the rides another humiliating experience. Change needed to come and the answer was in the girl who walked into my office door.
I am not going to lie, it was hard after the surgery. I threw up all the time, still do at times. I did not have back molars in my teeth, and when they told us that we should get that fixed first before the surgery, I should have listened and obey. Consequently all my teeth broke off at the base and I ended up with dentures. Listen when they tell you that grinding surfaces are important. In the end I lost about 165 a whole person! I lived like that until 2013 when I sought out Dr. Sassani for an eye lift because at the grocery store they kept telling me I looked tired. In the process of the examinations. It was evident that I had gastric bypass due to the HUGE amount of excessive skin around my middle and below at my stomach. I also had a scar from a prior surgery I had hated since I was 6 years old.
I thought that it was also fat since I remained at approximately 165 pounds and never got down to the tiny size of 130-135. I believed I had to live with the mess but Dr. Sassani said no it was skin and he offered HOPE. Hope to move better, not be chaffing all the time, being winded from moving and freedom from embracement and what he didn’t say or know was the self-hate due to that excessive skin- freedom from that too.
I am not a wealthy woman, not at all but I did whatever it took. Pawned my jewelry from my deceased mother (she struggled her whole life with weight) knowing she would approve (she was heavy too) and I eventually got it back, I borrowed some more money from others and more importantly due to my bad back, which often happens when you carry all that weight. I was able to obtain letters for the insurance company and they paid a portion, it was usual. I made it happen financially but the miracle comes from the skill hands of an amazing surgeon. Dr. Sassani removed the scar of my child hold gave me totally balanced l stomach, lifted the area to perfection and a great belly button. When I came out of surgery and they removed the bandages I cried and cried. All of the skin was gone and there was perfection, it took week for me to believe it, recovery was good, couple bumps along the way but Dr. Sassani and his staff were on top of it and I cannot express how much I love my stomach, you can bounce quarters off the thing. AND IT IS BEAUTIFUL.
I now walk effortlessly, without the weight, I stand straighter and not slumped over and the most important the physical pain in my back that without the stomach surgery was constant is now completely gone. I owe him so much. I love myself for the first time. I still need a breast life and I want him to complete a leg lift and tush life all in good time I am planning on it.
I changed profession and went from a paralegal to a Real Estate Agent for Balistreri that is how much I have grown to have confidence with my appearance and mobility. My scares are almost invisible now it just looks like a new me. Thank you Dr. Sassani Thank you. I always share this story.
