Breast Implant Hardened by Radiation - Fort Lauderdale, FL

WORTH IT
I had a lumpectomy and radiation but the radiologist never told me I would get very bad contractions around my implant. It became hard as a rock and moved slighty up and towards my shoulder making movement unpleasant and the hardness was painful. I went to many, many top rated plastic surgeons seeking help for this condition. Many callously said I had to live with it, there was nothing they could do; others quoted me outrageous prices and said the outcome was in no way guaranteed and would probably go back to being hard.
My oncologist, while talking about this situation, immediately recommended Dr. Russell Sassani. Set up an appointment and the minute he walked into the room, I knew I had found the physician who could help me. He has a wonderfully calming manner while being highly knowledgeable and more than competent. He was the only physician who told me my insurance had to pay for all surgeries done on that breast because I had had cancer. No one else had mentioned this.
The procedure consisted of Dr. Sassani cutting a "flap", sometimes from the stomach, but in my case from my back, cutting out all the hard tissue surrounding the breast and placing the "flap" to have nice soft, supple skin instead of the radiated skin which was a mess. He inserted an inflatable implant which was enlarged each week with liquid so as to expand the skin. In a few months, this expansion implant will be replaced by a regular implant and I will have a normal looking breast. Tattoo an aureola and he will create a nipple and I will be done. It has been a long process and it's still not over but it's been made easier by the caring staff and Dr. Sassani's cool, but kind and sweet, manner.
It's been a long road but I very lucky to have been told about him; he is an amazing plastic surgeon because he is a scientist with an artistic eye which is necessary to visualize what needs to be done to enhance and beautify. I have had other procedures with Dr. Sassani and will never go to another doctor. ever.
I cannot recommend him highly enough, and I have seen many plastic surgeons, and he is the best besides being a very sweet, charming person.
