One Year on I Am Very Pleased with my Results. My Experience Was Very Positive and Stress-free.
I had forehead reduction surgery with Dr Ekizceli one year ago and I'm really pleased with my results. The process was the same as has been written by others, so I'll summarise parts of the experience I consider 'green flags':
- My consultant, Kenan, was great and kept me informed throughout. He checked up on me via WhatsApp after the surgery many times, even though I had no problems.
-My translator/assistant Mariam was really kind and knowledgeable about the surgery and everything medical. She accompanied me to the consultation, surgery day, and follow-up day.
-I had a full consultation with Dr Ekizceli in his office the day BEFORE my surgery. He listened to what I wanted and he was humble, not arrogant at all - very professional.
-I paid for the surgery in a designated finance office, where a worker took payment. She counted the cash using a machine and gave me a receipt. I actually accidentally overpaid slightly and she handed the extra money back immediately.
-During the second pre-op consultation with Dr Ekizceli he took great time and effort measuring my new forehead shape perfectly. He used a pen along with a measuring device meaning that my new forehead would be perfectly symmetrical on each side. He didn't rush at all and kept checking from different angles that it was perfect, adjusting as necessary.
-My hospital room was really modern and clean, it felt more like a hotel, especially the bathroom. WiFi was provided at all times. The nurses were very good. Another nurse came during the night to show me the result and she was very kind and professional.
-For me, the pain was probably 2/10 - not even a pain, just more like a tight sensation and a dull headache for about 2-3 days. I didn't need to take any painkillers once out of the hospital and it really wasn't unpleasant at all . YMMV, of course, but that's just my experience.
-One year on, my scar has healed really nicely and is almost invisible. As I wanted a temple-to-temple reduction, meaning that I'd have a scar ear-to-ear, Dr Ekizceli agreed but warned me I wouldn't be able to wear my hair fully back (his own words), however, my scar is so discreet that I do wear my hair fully back and nobody has noticed. Again, YMMV, and I think a lot of that has to do with the fact I have extremely pale skin, so it may differ for those with darker skin where the scar may show more of a contrast.
I don't have any red flags concerning this clinic, but I want to be 100% honest in my review because I won't lie:
There was a clause in the contract stating that any organic matter removed during surgery can be sent off for teaching/trial/research purposes and that withdrawing consent to this would not affect the surgery at all. However, when the assistant noticed I declined consent to this, she told me I wouldn't be able to go ahead with the surgery until I accepted. I pointed out what the clause said, and asked her where exactly and who exactly, would be testing parts of my tissue and DNA, but she had no idea herself. In the end I accepted it because I obviously wanted to get the surgery, and I'm not too worried about it, but I feel like I had the right to proceed without consenting to that, as the contract stated.
Finally, not a huge deal, but during my follow-up check, no scar gel or shampoo was provided as part of a take-home package. Instead, it was offered to me at a hugely marked-up cost, literally 400% higher than it's sold in the pharmacy. The gel, Scarex, is sold in every pharmacy, but surgeons usually give at least one tube for free, then you can buy others for cheap at the pharmacy if you wish. Similarly, they offered to sell me a tiny shampoo for $100, when such an expensive brand isn't necessary at all, baby shampoo is fine. It really isn't a big deal, but I just think it's a bit tacky to be honest, considering the fact that I paid £5000 for my surgery, and I found Dr Ekizceli and his staff to be extremely professional, it just seemed off-brand.
Overall, though, my experience has been extremely positive and I'd 100% recommended the forehead reduction with Dr Ekizceli.
