Zoom call consultation 14/10/20
This was the first time I met Dr Bran to discuss the hairline lowering procedure. From what I remember, he asked me why I wanted the procedure done, he told me the ins and outs of the surgery and asked if I had any questions. I instantly got a good vibe from him and put me at ease. I have researched this procedure for many years and knew that I wanted to go through LBPS. Face to face consultation 19/10/20Now it was time to meet Dr Bran in person. We discussed the same as what had been discussed on the zoom call and then he had me lay on the bed and asked me to draw where I would like my new hairline to be. Dr Bran then drew what he thought, his line was lower than what I desired but I was happy with it so he took some measurements and photos. It took me a while to book the procedure as this was a huge thing for me, I'd never had major surgery before or even been under anaesthetic so I was very nervous. I eventually got back in touch with LBPS to book as my quotation was running out soon, my procedure date was set for 04/02/21. I was sent Ferulic acid a week before my surgery (I think I was supposed to have received this earlier) I used this and regaine on my hairline everyday for a week prior to surgery.Procedure day 04/02/21I had been really excited for my procedure as I couldn't wait to see the outcome. 2 days before I started to realise that it was actually happening so soon and I began to get really nervous. I drove down from Manchester the night before, didn't sleep very well at all. Probably a combination of nerves and an uncomfortable hotel room (Langham Court Hotel, I don't recommend) I arrived at the hospital at 7.15AM to fill out a lot of paperwork. I was then taken into a room for a pre op assessment, there was quite a lot of people bobbing in and out of the room, a few different nurses going over some questions, the anaesthetist came to explain what he was going to do, and Dr Bran came in to draw the measurements on my forehead and asked me if I was happy with the projected hairline, which I was. I was so scared, I was moments away from having my head cut open!! I was then taken into theatre, Dr Bran stood by and held my hand whilst the anaesthetist did his job, he didn't even tell me the anaesthetic was going in and before I knew it I was asleep. I'm sort of glad he didn't tell me the anaesthetic was going in as I would have probably panicked had I known he was doing it. The next thing I remember was waking retching. This was probably the worst part for me, I had a cold white jelly mask on my face and I couldn't see a thing and I felt really claustrophobic. I was sick quite severely, I didn't know how I was going to react as I mentioned previously I'd never had anaesthetic before. I didn't feel like eating or drinking anything after surgery, I had a carton of apple juice and the tiniest bit of yogurt. I was so uncomfortable and irritated after surgery. The bandages were so tight on my head. The nurse then came to take off my bandages and take the drain out. This was such a relief, the drain removal didn't really hurt at all, it just felt strange. Dr Bran and the anaesthetist came in once I was awake to see how I was. My partner was called to pick me up and I was sent on my way with a pile of sick bowls and medication! That night I was very irritable and couldn't get comfy, I just wanted to be back home in my own bed but I still had a 4 hour drive the following day. I probably woke up every hour that night, I had taken some tramadol which they prescribed, I expected myself to be very tired because of the meds but I wasn't at all. The drive home went very quick and I am glad to be back in my own bed recovering. Surprisingly there is very minimal pain, my head just feels very tight and it's slightly yellow due to the bruising but I am so happy already, it feels surreal to have a normal sized forehead! My stitch removal and MLD treatment is on 10/02/21 so will provide an update then.

1 Week Post Op & Stitch Removal
Holhol97February 16, 2021
The first 5 days post op I felt very nauseous but had no pain whatsoever, my head felt tight and I couldn’t wait to get the stitches out. My appointment was moved to 11/02/21 so exactly a week after surgery. I arrived at the surgery and the lovely Jenna carried out the COVID antibody test for me (I don’t know if I mentioned in my previous post I had to have a negative COVID test a week prior to the surgery & a week self isolation). I then had my MLD treatment with another lovely lady, I wish I could remember her name because she was so nice and easy to chat to. You’re supposed to have 3 MLD treatments, I think 1 before and 2 after surgery, but because of the current situation, I was only booked in for 1. The MLD treatment itself was relaxing and lasted around 45 minutes. I then had my post op appointment with Dr Bran. We talked for a while about how the past week had been and then he explained what would happen after the stitches were taken out. I was so worried about the stitches being removed but honestly it felt like a slight plucking but not painful at all. I didn’t feel some sort of instant relief after they were removed, my head was still tight but it’s all part of the healing process. Some more pictures were taken and I was sent on my way. I was told to resume using the ferulic acid and regaine, which I had been using prior to surgery. I am continuing using the baby shampoo as I had suffered with losing a lot of hair over the past 12 months but the baby shampoo seems to have reduced it. Since the stitch removal I have had a dull ache every now and again around the scar but nothing unbearable. It’s a little itchy and my scalp is dry but again all part of the healing process. I have already noticed a few little hairs poking through the scar not even 2 weeks post op!
As for hair loss, I’ve not really noticed anything that’s unusual for me and the hair around my scar still looks normal (I have very thin hair anyway). I am so pleased I’ve finally done this it’s been a problem for me for as long as I can remember.

Thank you for doing this, I hope you can continue! I am scared of the scar being far away from my hairline and a new problem for me :-)

You're welcome :) the technique the Dr Bran uses is fantastic, it's in a zig zag as this resembles the natural hairline. I've already got so many little hairs growing through the scar and it will eventually be covered by my hair. You can still style your hair as it was previously, whether that be a fringe to hide the scar until the hair has chance to grow through. Honestly since the surgery, I haven't had my fringe over my face once, I feel like the scar isn't that noticeable and I want to embrace my forehead after shielding it for so many years!

Update ?

Did they also send you the regaine? or is that something you had to purchase separately
April 18, 2021
Hi Chelse, no I had to buy the regaine myself. They send you the ferulic acid. I did buy the men's regaine though as the women's is much more expensive and it's exactly the same product so watch out for female tax.

how is the scar now?
That is the main thing holding me back from this surgery... well, that and the fact I read that hair loss might occur.
How long before one can resume physical activity?
Have you experienced any hair loss after the surgery?

April 18, 2021
I mean, have you experienced hairloss as of today? I read that it starts around 2 months after surgery.
April 18, 2021
Hi Pandoraion, I haven't experienced any hair loss at almost 11 weeks post op. I think it was 6 weeks until you can resume strenuous exercise. I was also worried about potential hair loss as my hair is already thin and get quite a lot of hair fall when I wash it but I'm impressed at how well the recovery has been. Dr Bran did say any hair loss that happens does grow back :)

11 Weeks Post Op
Holhol97April 18, 2021
Hi all!
I’m almost 11 weeks post op so thought I’d give an update as to where my healing is at.
I wore makeup for the first time since my op this week which was so exciting! I did forget to take a pic, but I am so impressed you can’t see the scar at all under foundation, I will try and get a pic up with makeup this week so you can see.
I stopped using the regaine and ferulic acid quite a few weeks ago as the regaine made my hair hard and the ferulic acid made it greasy I was alternating days between the two products, I don’t know if this will affect me negatively?? Please do let me know if you think I should resume using it.
I carried on using the baby shampoo for some weeks after my op, I’d probably say I went back to a normal shampoo after 7/8 weeks.
My hair started growing through the scar on the left side really early on (you can see it was starting in my previous update 1 week post op) the hair has continued to grow and is starting to hide the scar. The right side is struggling, I’m not concerned as it’s going to take time, my forehead gets so itchy when the hairs are breaking through the skin but it’s a good sign. One thing I have been getting is small spots along the scar when a hair is breaking through but I’m ok with that. As for hair loss, amazingly I’ve not experienced anything other than my usual hair fall when I wash it.
For anyone contemplating this procedure, I would 100% recommend it! My forehead held me back SO MUCH, I literally haven’t even worn my fringe or used hairspray since before my operation. It’s unleashed a confidence I never thought I would have. I can’t wait to go shopping for pretty headbands and wear cute hairstyles I would never have worn before!!!

Forgot to mention, my head is still pretty numb, it's not as bad as it was but still definitely numb. It's the strangest sensation. I can still feel the endotine devices / carpet grippers in my skull, they get a little sore sometimes but I was told they can take about 4 months to dissolve.
April 20, 2021
Your results already look SO incredible!! I would definitely love to see what the scar looks like with makeup on. Did it take two months before you could use makeup to cover it?
April 26, 2021
Thank you!!
Absolutely not, I think it's up to you when you wear makeup over the scar. If you have a look on the Huda Beauty website, there is a lady who had the same procedure with Christopher Inglefield, she was wearing makeup over her scar 2 weeks post op.

Having said that, ferulic and regaine are used to minimise hairloss around the site.
It wonmt prevent it 100% and in any case it is not a visible hairloss.
Inused it and did not realise i did have hairloss after surgery.. until month 8 when I had lots of hair that were shorter ( i had so much shorter hair that it created a natural fringe. Actually this is slightly visible on my profile pic which is from 3-4 months ago. U might notice I have shorter hair in the front (shorter than the frontal one reaching the level of my face)
But HL surgery changed my life too for the better , dt Bran is an incredible human and an incredible surgeon.
