5th Flat Day Completed

I just wanted to post an update for everyone. So far the reality of this healing process has been much better than my imagination led me to believe. My surgery time was early, 6am, and I was back home by 10:30am. Due to my usually becoming nauseated after surgery, we used a scopolamine patch, a drug called Emend and suppository. Not sure which one did the trick, but I did not vomit! Yay!

For pain we used Norco and Motrin (600mg) every 4 hours for the first day. The second day, we moved to every six hours, and the third day we went to one Norco and one Motrin every 6 hours. Now I'm at only Motrin for daytime and one Norco for sleep. The discomfort is really only upon moving. When I am at rest, there is no pain. Additionally, once I'm up and moving (slowly) there is only a feeling of fullness, tightness, and tiredness. Much, much, tiredness....I ended up renting an electric recliner from Rent A Center and it has been wonderful.

As I only have sons and my husband and I are separated, I needed after surgery care. I looked at hiring a nurse, but the cost was very high. My PS recommended a surgical technician by the name of Radora Goold. She is WONDERFUL! She came and stayed with me for 3 days. This was the best decision I could have made for myself and my recovery. While I was in and out of drug induced sleep, she took care of everything...and I mean everything. She drove me home, got me comfortable, made my meals, she changed my drains, and even walked my dog! I felt soooo at ease knowing she was here that I think it really helped in keeping my pain level low. Her rates are very reasonable considering the quality and quantity of care you receive that I can't recommend her enough. She has a website if you want to contact her.

My PS Christa Clark has been wonderful as well. I never feel rushed in her office and her staff has been very helpful as well. I have my one week appt. this Friday. I will post some pictures a bit further down the road, but I did want to post this much for now.

Surgery coming up quickly on 7/11. Went to my Pre-Op this week. Felt very calm and secure in my choice of doctor. She knows her stuff. Was concerned about nausea PO, but they have me covered. Rented a power recliner that will be delivered 2 days prior to my surgery date. Got all my prescriptions filled. Surgery time is scheduled tentatively for 5:00am w/ a 6:00 arrival. Very excited.

From the first time you meet her, Dr. Clark feels like a family friend. Don't get me wrong, she exudes knowledge and she knows her stuff, you get that right away. However, she doesn't display her expertise in a pretentious manner as some have mentioned about their PS's. Dr. Clark displays a sincere sense of care and a genuine desire to help you, but she's entirely approachable and fun. She provides her honest appraisal of what she can do for you - no sales pitch or pressure, just your options. If you have questions between appointments (and you will), her staff is awesome and kind. My TT recovery has been far easier than my imagination led me to believe it would be like. Perhaps it was luck, but it think it's more likely due to the competency of my surgeon. Also, Dr. Clark uses pain-pumps for your comfort after surgery. THIS IS IMPORTANT. The pain pump makes the first 4 days of your recovery much easier, SO YOU CAN REST. Many PS's do not want to invest in this and so they downplay the necessity of using a pain pump. However, you WANT a pain pump and more importantly you want a PS that will go the extra mile and expense for YOUR comfort. Speaking of rest - this is a bit of a sidebar review here...Instead of being a burden to my sons and family (I mean, who really wants to help you to the bathroom and mess with abdominal drainage??) I utilized the services of a surgical tech, Radora Goold, who provides in-home post surgical care. Second only to choosing Dr. Clark as my PS, choosing Radora as my after-care provider for the first 3 days was the best decision I could have made. While I was in a medicated blur, Radora handled everything, (and I mean everything), that I was not able to do for myself and for my family. For example, she drove me to my follow up appt.; managed my pain med dosages; drains; bandages; bathroom trips, first shower; meal prep (for my kids too); shopping; even fed and walked my dog! I'm sure I'm forgetting much more as well. However, I feel her care allowed me to rest and heal much more rapidly than I may have otherwise. So, would I recommend Dr. Christa Clark? WHOLE-HEARTEDLY!! My only regret was not ponying up for lipo on my thighs as well. Seriously. I believe my results will also far exceed what my imagination led me to believe. I'm happy I made this choice to have the TT and most pleased that I found Dr. Clark to perform her magic on me! Oh, and Dr. Clark does THE best Belly Buttons! They are amazing!
