Terrible Experience with Juvederm in Lips - Florida
UPDATED FROM Ljmloo
1 month post
It's been a couple more weeks
$500
I decided to wait it out a few days before deciding to melt the filler and I'm happy I didn't go through with reversing the effects. The lips are a bit smaller now and actually looks good. Im no longer experiencing itchy or chapped.

I don't know if it was the injector or the juvederm itself but the whole experience is bad and continues to be terrible. I had juvederm injections about 3 weeks ago for a little volume. I love my natural lip shape I just wanted to enhance them a little more. I've had restylane before which I absolutely love but the results only lasted 3-4 months. I wanted to try juvederm and I absolutely regret it. First I should say I did not love how they looked right after injection. They looked asymmetrical and my upper lip was too big. I figured it was the numbing cream and it will all subside. I had the usual swelling but this time terrible bruising and hematoma. I've never bruised with restylane.. Ever! The bruising was so bad I was questioning necrosis! There was bruising and bumps on all injections sites. The swelling and bruising went away in a couple days. The tiny bumps on the injection sites still remained making my top lip look slightly lumpy. After a week my upper lip is still larger than the bottom and it has a puffy look rather than an enhanced look. I didn't have that confident feeling I usually do when I get them done more like an insecure feeling fearing people will notice I got my lips done. Overall, I was optimistic my body will reabsorb the product over time and I will just correct them once the size decreases a bit. I was willing to deal with it. Now fast forward to the nightmare. I got the flu a week later. They day after the 1st day of the flu, my lips swelled up all over again. It didn't hurt and it wasn't serious swelling it's the kind of swelling you get after lip injections. It started on my lower right lip where I had the hematoma then my top lip swelled up soon after. Reading up on delayed reactions I was fearing biofilm, infections and granulomas. I was having mini panic attacks from the fear of complications from the fillers. I went in to see my injector and she said since I was sick and fighting an infection I could have an immune response to the filler. She said to come back in a few days. So I waited and the swelling did go down. It's been a week since the swelling went down and my lips have yet to feel normal. I feel the product in my lip not from the lumps but it's like my body is aware of the foreign object in my lips. My lips feel chapped sometimes and dry (never had this issue). My lips peel from being dry and it seems like the fillers settled inside my upper lip along the rim where I can feel it with my tongue. It's still slightly puffier in the morning although it goes down a little after a bit yet it still looks "puffy". I'm afraid to dissolve the fillers because I've heard horror stories. I naturally have full lips and I don't want the enzyme to leave me worse than I feel now. My fiancé says it's not noticeable and they actually look nice but I know how my lips should look. The shape completely changed and I don't look like myself. I'm still unsure if I'm having delayed reactions since I have a terrible cough and maybe it's making my lips feel dry and chapped? Again, I'm unsure if it's the juvederm, or injector. Maybe my top lips is overfilled? I don't have alarming side effects where it's painful, sore or red. My only concern is that they don't feel right. Whereas with restylane after a few days when the product settles I don't even notice I have product in my lip. It feels so natural where I can rub my lips together after lipstick and feel fine. Now they just feel strange.

hey,
sorry to hear that. Your lips before were absoultely beautiful and to be honest they where already very full. I think that the problem is not juvederm but that your doctor overinjected your lips (because they already were so full this) .
Just wait a little bit...the product won´t last forever. Perhpas your doctor can massage the area ? Sometimes this can help a lot....

I'm incredibly surprised by your description of restylane feeling natural. I had it twice. It lumped and felt like I had a rubber elastic bordering my lips. Just the worst. Hope your lips get sorted- a bad result is never easy!
Really? I feel like I have rubber in my lips from juvederm. funny how we all have different experiences. I prefer Restlyane Silk the result was subtle and so natural I should've stuck to what I know.. Meh..
Wow your lips were perfect before the juvederm injections! I'm looking into getting the same procedure but I'm curious to know whom was your dr since I live in fL I want to find the right doctor.
Maybe you had a bad reaction/result because you first had restalyn injected and later juvederm, not sure how long you waited after restalyn. But it doesn't look bad now, I'm sure it will start looking and feeling better soon.

Thanks so much! I really miss my old lips but we'll how it goes.
You had gorgeous lips before the injections - don't worry, it will eventually absorb - if it gets worse, I'd get the dissolvent injected. It almost looks like you were among the unfortunate to have an allergic reaction to Juvederm. My immune system is suppressed, due to chemotherapy, and I have had no problems with Juvederm... If Restalyne works better for you, I'd stick with that going forward - or none at all - you have beautifully shaped lips already :) Feel better!
Thanks for your comment. I hope it gets better or at least dissolve faster! I'm getting a second opinion tomorrow so we'll see how that goes :)
I think it may be too late to massage the area. I'm going in for a second opinion tomorrow. My only hope is that I'm not having a reaction but just chapped lips from the cold.. I can deal with the overfilled lips for now and wait it out.
i am pretty sure your chapped lips are not caused by juvederm.
Btw you are the first person i hear from who had swelling during an illness. Several month ago i had a herpes infection and my cheeks (where i had an infection 2 month prior to that) swelled up all over again. I was sooo afraid - fortunately the swelling went away after one day. i told my docot about it but he said that he had never heard of anything like that.
