Yep, my over-achieving pits are dryI wish MiraDry...

Yep, my over-achieving pits are dryI wish MiraDry were available years ago, but am THRILLED it's here now and it's the best thing I've ever spent money on. If you are reading this blog, and are considering having this done, I say "DO IT". Do your research on it, especially levels and experienced technicians, and I think you'll find the more you know, the more you'll want this done.

Yes, a few thousand dollars ($2,000 first procedure, $800 second prodcure - if necessary) is a lot of money, but I couldn't think of a better thing (for me) to spend money on to enhance my quality of life! I've had the Botox treatments and that worked really well, albeit, expensive, too. With now dry pits, I started wearing colored shirts and loved the fact that I didn't always have to keep my elbows pressed to my sides like a Tyrannosaurus Rex for fear of big ol' dinner-plate sized sweat stains grossing people out. I wore nothing but black Dry-Fit and Under Armour short sleeve polos just so I could feel comfortable fully extending my arms. After about 6 months of Botox, my wife said I was a different person, more confident, less fidigty. I told her that only people with hyper-hydrosis know what a curse it is... at least I considered it to be. Beginning January 1 of this year, when the insurance company was no longer going to cover any part of the Botox and I was going to have to start paying $750 every 3 months, I considered surgery and started looking on the internet and ran across MiraDry. I read every single word of every single post on this site for info. I was on Miradry's website getting info. I was watching MiraDry videos. I watched the MiraDry segment on the Dr. Oz show. I googled questions about it, and as long as you put the name MiraDry in your search, more answers from other websites came up that I otherwise wouldn't have found. I researched the heck out of it, and determined it is the way to go. I owe my insurance company a HUGE thank-you for the declination letter to my dermotologist for what I hoped was going to be another 3 months of temporary Botox, otherwise, I wouldn't have discovered MiraDry!

So...
Today is day 10 after my first procedure and am happy and dry as can be! After all my research I called and booked my appointment for the procedure and the 10 days I had to wait until my appointment couldn't have come soon enough. I was like a 5 year-old waiting for his birthday. I chose not to have a preliminary appointment due to knowing that I wanted to have this done and felt a lot of my questions were already answered.

It's recommended to shave your pits 1-3 days prior to the treatment so if you have any cuts or irritation from shaving, they'll have time to heal. I read that if you do it the day of, there is a chance for more irritation. I have to say, it was odd shaving them and having bald pits, but now know what my wife goes through. We'd compared notes.

The morning of, I had a brief consultation with the very caring and compassionate lady whom was going to perform the procedure and she had given me additional information of what to expect, before, during and after the process. She told me she LOVES her job (and her enthusiam showed) because it changes people's live so dramatically and told me about the tear-jerker thank you letters from past sufferers she has helped. She told me her son was the first person she performed this on, and then had it done on herself, too. She wanted to know what the patient's experience was going to be... a true professional! One of the guys who posted here had the same lady and he was right... it's very comforting having a knowledgable and EXPERIENCED person do this. She said she has been booked solid the day the Skin & Vein Center offered this, and has been booked a year solid ever since, so I knew I was in the right hands. I right away asked about levels because it seems that other people whom had level 1 for the first procedure, weren't as dry as they hoped. The lady said she does a LEVEL 4 for the first procedure and LEVEL 4 or 5 for second procedure because that is the level she had done and said the pain (mild) and swelling were the same as her son had (level 1). She said it's better to be aggressive with the first round to have maximum results. When she said that, I knew I was in the right place. I just wanted these damn pits dry! After a sedative (very welcomed and I my wife was there to drive me home) and 55 easy shots p/p (per pit) with their short needle (took away the guessing on how deep to inject), my pits numbed up and I was ready to go. I'm a bigger guy, so smaller people will probably have less shots. Seriously, if this is going to be the solution I'm banking on to keep me dry, I wouldn't have cared if she used a flame-thrower to numb 'em.

During the procedure, Dr. Seiger popped in the room to say hello, check the pit tatto-grid, and reassure me I was in great care. When he left, I resumed asking the technician about some of the things I read on the blogs, one of which, can I have different levels done on the deeper parts of my pits and she told me that when the MiraDry machine is set before the wand hits your pit for the first time, it won't let you change the level at any time after that... so it confirmed even more that level 4 was the right choice for me.

After a half hour p/p, it was over. I could not believe it. Yes, there were a couple of times when I could feel the heat, but the lady said "just a few more seconds" and then it went cool. She turned to monitor that she watches towards me so I could see it and she explained what things on the screens meant. On the screen is kind of a scroll bar that shows when it is hot and how long until it gets cool. Once I started watching the scroll bar, it didn't really hurt because I could see the countdown to coolness. Out of maybe 24 zaps p/p, only 2 or 3 were hot... absolutely no big deal. She then gave me her card with her cell number on it in case I had any questions or concerns within the next days and to contact her anytime. This was another source of comfort, having her direct number.

I'm glad people posted to bring frozen water bottles because they worked perfectly, even though the office gave me a couple of MiraDry frozen gel packs. It is also a great suggestion to have another set of water bottles in the freezer so you can put the old bottles back in the freezer and grab the new ones, once the ice melts, which is about 1-1/2 to 2 hours.

Like I started with, it's been 10 days and the numbness is wearing-off and it feels like my pits are mildly sunburned... doesn't hurt, just minorly uncomfortable.

I didn't post any pictures because mine looked like most of the others posted. I had minor swelling and redness, and a few domino-sized and shaped hickies. They're completely gone now and waiting for all the numbness to disappear, too. I have to say that if they stayed the way they are now, I wouldn't care at all, as long as I'm dry. The last thing is I was told that the hair may or may not grow back to it where it was "pre-razor". Even if they stay like swimmers' pits for the rest of my life, if they stay dry, I'll remained thrilled! In the meantime, I can't wait for my new shirt that I picked out for Father's Day. Yep, it's a thin colorful dress shirt... one I wouldn't have worn in a million years with my former super-soakers.

I'll post an update in a couple of weeks.
