Facial reconstruction: 2 pictures = 1000 words

Some years back in time, when I first met Dr Peter Sylaides, a very well know, respected and active volunteer of my parish, it never crossed my mind, that a day would come, that will find me in a desperate need of his expertise. That day, came for me on the 23rd of March 2019 in a form of a very close call.
God spared my life in a very ugly motorcycle incident (wearing an open face helmet) and left me with multiple facial fractures and an almost completely wrecked face.
Picture on the left is myself the day after ( 4,5 Hours of emergency response surgery including way over 300 sutures and at least 3 cauterisations ).
From that point Dr Sylaides took control immediately and since the incident happened overseas, he collaborated with the medical team in Greece, planning and coordinating every single step of my recovery, in the most professional way while abroad. His communication skills, along with his worldwide reputation amongst the medical community, made it easier and I was quite surprised from the helpful response and care, I was receiving from everyone upon the hearing of his name.
In the record time of two months, my recovery was in a stage, that allowed me to fly back to Adelaide and be in the hands of Dr. Peter Sylaides.
His calm voice, along with an holistic approach and situational awareness, inspired the sense of safety and trust inside me, which is still present till today.
Professional from the very beginning, he responded, he planned, executed and followed up every single surgery, great or minor, following cardinally the check list he initiated.
Under-correction than over-correction, revaluation and final touch, are his principles that detect his holistic approach
My expertise and the level of my medical knowledge doesn’t allow me to become more technical, so my judgement is only based in my experience and of course the results. As a character and due to my military training, I’m not very easy with compliments. But if my review looks like a tribute to Dr Sylaides, you are right, IT IS. And that is because he deserves way more. This guy gave me back, not just a fixed nose or a corrected smile, but a face to live with. For that, I am very grateful to him and very thankful to life that we crossed ways with such a gentleman.
Finally, for the people that might wonder, NO it didn’t cost me an arm and a leg to get back my face.
